UEFA Champions League Quarter Final fixtures (9th - 10th, 16th - 17th April 2019)

Think Liverpool's chances of winning the CL are very underrated. Hardly anyone's talking about it given they have an (understandable) obsession with winning the league.
What do you mean? Pretty universally accepted that theres a main 4 of them, city, Barca and juve. Most just think itll be Barca or City which is fair.

I think TAA was over the touch line when the ball hit his hand, so maybe that's why it wasn't given?

Do you want football to become a handball championship?

Every little graze of the arm and people are begging for VAR penalites. Good job ruining football you morons.
Some logic and common sense at last.

Makes you think what? I've consistently argued against this evolution of the handball rule over the years. Seem to remember a handball from Milner against Roma last season that was nowhere near a penalty as well, come to think of it.

I have no problem with Kuipers giving it, since it's the rule and at least I'm happy it's indeed applied consistently, but I simply don't agree with the rule. That picture above from Rose doesn't tell half the tale, you can't pinpoint such an action in a picture. And you can't possibly say what's a natural or unnatural position if you're trying to block a ball, what defending is all about after all. "He shouldn't go in like that because he risks giving away a penalty" is what will kill proper defending over time, and I hate to read things like that.

I maintain that whatever the rule is, as long as it is applied consistently then that's all we can ask.

It's also fine to argue separately as to whether a rule is sensible and practical.

I'd like to see a rule where keepers aren't allowed to make contact with the ball outside their areas even with head or feet. I think it would lead to more goals and more excitement. Keeper touching it outside the area would be a penalty kick.

I suspect people would not vote for this rule but I'd love to see it trialled

Seriously, with VAR people are fecking wanting penalites for any graze of the hand. They are ruining football.

With modern defending, you need so much effort to score. But no, lets just kick it at a limb and VAR will super slowmotion to a penalty.

They ruined football. YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

State of this.

Suspensions for accumulated yellows is one of the dumbest things in football.

So the other team should be punished because you go in with your arms up?

It's not a booking but it's a pen. The advantage was given to the correct team.

You can’t dive in to defend properly with your arms literally against your body. This rule penalises the art of defending way too much and gives too much benefit to the attacker.

Rio will agree completely at HT just watch, and he knows a thing or two about defending.

What is even the point of Porto at this stage of the CL?
TBF this is one of the weakest Porto sides in recent years so for them to get this far is an achievement.

Liverpool will get fecked in the Semis though.

Spuds fecking up so many opportunities.

How long can they last..

So what happens if that call was Liverpool in the CL final in the 85th minute and Rose does that handball but because of no VAR you guys don't get a pen and lose the final?\

RAWK would not shut the feck up about it for 100 years.

Fernandino should've elbow dropped him.

Hard to imagine it as Spurs will never be in a CL final :D

You have to be a bit mental to argue this wasn't a penalty.

Yeah for all my jibes, Morega could have had a couple goals already. One of the better teams in the CL will definitely do them.
