UEFA Champions League Quarter Final fixtures (9th - 10th, 16th - 17th April 2019)

City, especially fernadinho, get away with murder with these dirty tackles in midfield and never get early cards. He should be off for that elbow on kane, but no punishment. Wtf

So what happens if that call was Liverpool in the CL final in the 85th minute and Rose does that handball but because of no VAR you guys don't get a pen and lose the final?\

RAWK would not shut the feck up about it for 100 years.
Then we'd lose the final, I guess? You'll never see me say that we deserve a penalty for such a thing.

Wouldn't be surprised if most people just don't dare to change their opinion since they probably argued till death that the Kimpembe one was a penalty.

Why? If a defenders hand is so high its a clear pen.

Because you can’t defend with your arms flush against your body. He’s not made an obvious moment towards the ball with his arm.

You can’t dive in to defend properly with your arms literally against your body. This rule penalises the art of defending way too much and gives too much benefit to the attacker.

Rio will agree completely at HT just watch, and he knows a thing or two about defending.

Exactly how often does what occured happen because as far as I'm concerned thats very rare so people do manage to defend properly.
It wasn't a great bit of defending ruined by the refs.

Your argument is the same as those who used to "well you can't slide tackle whilst in control" it's never a foul. The player is responsible for how they go in.

Nail on head.

Spurs need to make their domination count. Need to win this game with a clean sheet and they have a chance.

Van Dijk is so so fecking good. How did we let him go to Liverpool unopposed?

Spurs have been really good here, lacking the breakthrough into clear chances though

It is a pen based on the rules of the game (which should be changed) but that has nothing to do with VAR because it is one of the best features they have added. This season in Portugal I can't even count the amount of points that would have been lost because of a bad referee call if not for VAR.

Yeah so VAR isn't interested in an intentional elbow, but it is interested in slowing down and zooming in on a player to see if their arm is slightly elevated.

So fecking stupid.

It’s crazy how much the City players gets away with. Fernandinho just takes out Eriksen from behind, way too late and no yellow card. Then he knocks down Kane and elbows him and pushes his head down, no yellow card. Then Sterling holds onto Son and grabs his shirt from behind, no yellow card. How much do City pay the refs to not get carded! fecking annoying to watch them get away with it.

Oh I agree that VAR is a great addition yeah, no doubt. Has worked pretty well in Belgium as well although there are still some inconsistencies which need to be ironed out.

In my very biased view I thought Sterling was lucky to escape a yellow for holding Son, Otamendi lucky to escape a yellow for a hatchet job on Kane and Fernandinho lucky (like he is every single time he plays) to escape a yellow/red for an intentional follow-through with his hand on Kane's head.

Spurs and Liverpool fans not liking a penalty given for united or one against spurs.

Nail on head.

Rio Ferdinand and basically every footballer who discussed it said they thought the rule is incredibly harsh and that it shouldn't be a penalty.

The rule needs changing. It's not the referees fault because they're just following the stupid rulebook, and that needs to change before it comes in to the PL.

I was supporting United in the game against PSG, will be supporting you against Barcelona as well. Still thought it was a stupid, shit penalty.

If that penalty was given for Liverpool I'd still call it fecking stupid. Of course I'd be happy we got a chance from the spot to score, but it'd still be a stupid decision.

Jermaine jenas is such a prick...

He's the Harry Kane of commentary. Boring annoying prat.

Ya that's what I am saying people are complaining about VAR on here for no reason based on a few games.

City are poor away from that lucky pen. Pep's lineup is weird too.

It must be said, for a side who “can be got at”, City have defended really well. Especially at set pieces.

It's not hard to defend set pieces when all the deliveries have been a joke.

They 'can be got at' when they set up more offensively, but tonight they've set up very conservatively for a Guardiola side.

They could easily have gotten 4 or 5 yellow cards this half, but they always get away with everything. 1 yellow card is a fecking joke.

Spurs have carried very little threat, saying that neither have City really. Pretty dull game so far as a neutral.

Would be most Spursy thing ever to lose this by 3 goals after dominating the 1st half, gotta take their chances in big ties like these.
