UEFA Champions League Quarter Final fixtures (9th - 10th, 16th - 17th April 2019)

Some of you guys are wild - you don't play football with you arms by your side for 90mins your arms naturally move about
You're exaggerating though, of course you don't but it's daft to throw yourself at the ball with your arms out or up in the air.

Then dont make the tackle if you're worried about it hitting your arm? Everyone knows you always put yourself at risk when you dive in like that. He goes to block it with his feet but his arm is way up. Ball goes over his feet, could be going in, but Rose's arm blocks it. That's literally always been a pen and under review, always will be a pen and rightly so. Goalkeepers can use their arms to save shots. Outfield players cannot.
Bold is wrong, and the first sentence is too ridiculous to reply to, sorry. Defending will just die if you're gonna need to think like that.

He charged down a shot with an outstretched arm, it's a penalty. Players diving in are trying to block it with their legs mainly or torso at least, if hits your head while diving feet first then you've got lucky on your mistimed lunge, if hits your arm it's a penalty.

You take the gamble by diving in. You can keep running and stick a leg out, swivel around like some other players do.

You can't give a green light and say defenders can block shots with flailing or outstretched arms. You then turn defenders into second keepers who say didn't mean to charge that shot down guv.

Oh my god

EVERYBODY KNOWS WHAT THE RULE IS.

The discussion is whether or not that rule is correct and fair, and a vast majority of ex professionals/current players don't seem to think it is.
I think itd be closer to an even split rather than a vast majority, but anyway. Everyone knows what the rule is like as is, so quite simply, play according to the rules. It's like the yellow cards for taking your shirt off for a celebration. It's a dumb rule, serves no purpose, but everyone knows it so dont fecking do it.

I wish De Gea did what Ederson has just done there :(

You're exaggerating though, of course you don't but it's daft to throw yourself at the ball with your arms out or up in the air.

That’s how you throw yourself at a ball. You literally can’t defend like that with your arms by your side. What you want is to minimise the way in which defenders can defend.

Where are you coming up with vast majority? Because two Spurs lads and a defender, who happens to be a Utd legend, in the studio don’t think it was a pen?

The first sentence is basically implying that you always have to take risks and with risks come consequences so shit can go bad. Yes, of course you have to dive in because it's a last ditch tackle to stop a potential goal. But you know the risk, especially when you just throw yourself to block a shot because naturally your arm will flail when you throw yourself like that. And the consequence of that is a pen because plain and simple, players arent allowed to use their hands to stop shots. The reasonable case is if the arms are by a players side and didnt make any real difference to blocking the shot. If your arms arent right by your side, then it's a pen.

Of course the refs think it's a pen. It is a pen by the current rules.

Those rules are stupid, and most footballers/ex footballers think they're stupid for a reason. This same old argument was had over the Kimpembe incident, yes by the letter of the law the ref has to give it, but it's still a rule that is completely out of touch with players.
People say the same thing about every rule change in football.

I think rules that lead to more goals is a good thing. Lots of defenders already keep their arms behind their backs when blocking crosses. The out of touch ones are as usual British pundits.

Who cares if you cannot slide in with your hands close to the body, I think it is irrelevant. Don’t do it if you don’t want to risk a penalty, or don’t get in a position where you should. If it had been a goal, why should the attacking team suffer the punishment?

Our fullbacks just switched flanks. L-O-L

Kane getting injured is good for you lot in the top 4 race at least.

Wow straight down the tunnel, must be bad

Wonder what Delph said to him, looked like no love lost between those two

What happened with Kane?

You're exaggerating though, of course you don't but it's daft to throw yourself at the ball with your arms out or up in the air.

It was a last ditch tackle - when you throw your body in front of the ball your arms are gonna move

I get that with these new rules that it's "technically" a penalty I just think it's very harsh, it doesn't make any sense.
