A fire has broken out at the famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, firefighters say.

The cause is not yet clear, but officials say it could be linked to renovation work.

Damn! That's looking really bad!

Such weird timing for me. I was in Paris for the first time and saw Notre Dame a couple of weeks ago.

Whoa, that's pretty insane.

Part of the building as collapsed. Fire looks very hard to control, being a very old building that is understandable.

I was there a few days ago and saw it on a river cruise. I hope they can put it out. :(

Spire collapsed, part of the roof fell. This is a cultural disaster!! FGS, do something!!

Awful - I was planning to do a day trip to Paris soon but it seems the place is on fire every other day.

Shouldn't there be like copters or some aerial firefighting by now?!!

Damm very hard to watch seeing it being destroyed. Ive been to Paris many times but Euro 2016 was the first time I had been as a adult to see the Cathedral and still remember the detail of the architecture well. Theres also lots of artifacts inside :(

Gutting
Dont know what if any cultural significance it has to the french but it was a spectacularly beautiful building.
