Fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris | 15th April 2019

One of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Awful news.

According to news media, the relics including the crown of thorns are still inside.
The loss of the Relics of Sainte-Chapelle would be more devastating than losing the actual building.

Never got the appeal of the Eiffel Tower. Just a hideous mass of girders. Opening up the space with no big eyesore would be more pleasant in my view.

Shocking. One of the world's most iconic buildings.

Gutted. I was just there in December and was looking forward to going back someday.

Thankfully they were saved and are intact. Absolutely heartbreaking to watch the fire destroy that beautiful building. It's one of the most amazing places I've ever visited.

It's like... the next thing after that hideous tower as a national symbol

 It’s been there for approx 800 yrs. It’s a cathedral.

Ok ... thats phrased badly. I'm not aware of any significance it has beyond being an impressive building thats been around a long time. The Palace at Versaille is impressive but a bunch of historically important stuff happened there also which adds to its significance. I suppose it has some potentially important relics but i kind of just assumed they were bogus tbh.

BBC News saying if the fire is not contained in the next 90 minutes then the whole building will be destroyed.

Fire looks really enormous from this side...

You'd think someone would've rung a bell...

This is just.. Devastating.

I dont know when was the last time I was shocked with the a building being destroyed. Its not just the church, it's a symbol.

On another note, I read somewhere that around 2000 churches are to be destroyed in France cause cost of their restoration exceeds the cost of demolition. Dont know if its true or its already under way.

It's very important to Catholics, apart from being very important to citizens of France and anyone who values ancient and beautiful places of worship. It's a loss to the whole world.

Clearly a pre-apocalyptic sign.
You joke but those mildly to the right of you are claiming this is a sign of the death of Christianity in the West due to Islamic invasion.

We live in an insane world.

Just got out of the cinema, and my girl showed me the news. Feels so absurd.

Somebody should mention to the Sky news commentator that "The Blitz" was on London and NOT Paris ... she said it twice in 10 minutes
