Brexited | the worst threads live the longest

Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

  • Total voters
    194
  • Poll closed .
One last go at getting her deal through.

When that fails, she'll step down, the Tories will run their leadership election and we'll have a new PM in time for conference in late September.

The new leader will presumably be a Brexiteer, so 'no deal' exit will probably be the eventual outcome in October.
We know it wont get through, so why wait?

Maybe she hopes that the fear of a no deal Brexit under a brexiteer PM will be enough to scare a few opposition MPs into voting for it.

Conversely, a few of the Tory right (like Boris) who folded and voted in favour of MV3, will now obviously be strongly motivated to vote against her and thereby usher in the leadership contest.

Europe returns to being a fractured collection of competing nation states, overshadowed and manipulated freely by the US, Russia and China. Trade will diminish substantially, social progress will slow and in some nations decline, and it will all be extremely fecking depressing.
Or they could form a trading block without any of the cak tagged on.

The sooner the UK leaves and experiences the downsides of leaving the better it will be for Europe to stave off the populist idiocy.
Take France - support for Mélenchon in freefall, Gilets Jaunes in freefall, Le Pen level with Macron as it was around the election two years ago. Support for Socialists almost disappeared.
Le Pen is a laughing stock but like Farage will always appeal to the ignorants and xenophobes.

UK will be an excellent example of not what to do. All the populists offer is destroy but offer nothing as a realistic alternative.

For someone who is a secret brexiter, Corbyn is pretty rubbish at doing brexit.

I'm not convinced the talks were ever meant to succeed.

It's scary how popular a political party without a manifesto has become.

I think our perspective is being wilfully skewed. People who want dramatic change are always going to be highly motivated to vote, whereas reasonably satisfied people aren't so bothered. And then there's the desperation from monied interests & their media allies to make it seem that there's a massive public mandate for Brexit, especially the harder kind...

Yeah, those over-60 Brits are famously loaded. Strange, then, that we have a shameful history of them freezing to death in winter because of ever-rising heating costs, or starving because they chose to feed their pets instead of themselves.

This agenda-led pitting of generations against each other must end.

It's very much too far gone for that kind of common-sense and decency now I'm afraid mate.

The average pensioner statically has more spending power than the average working age person. No doubt you're right that there is huge levels of inequality being hidden by that average, but that's also true for every other demographic too.

On the most fundamental level, that seems flawed - those particular, fortunate pensioners have had more years to accrue money.

Slagging off the largest demographic is a great way to lose elections if you're more interested in being a protest group than a government though.

In fairness Steve they constantly vote for the government that does this to them. I would a love cross generations politics, I mean christ the people leading this new wave of left politics are all old white guys but the fact is older voters will not move at all, better to freeze to death in a high value house then let the grand kids go to university for free or better to die in shit britannia then have the imagery brown folks live next door.

But the media still report Brexit as some cry of rage on the part of the underdog.
I could be wrong but people earning under 30 grand mostly voted for brexit, so there is a element of ''cry of the underdog'' but overall the idea that Brexit was just bunch of left behind white coal miners fighting back against the liberal elite is complete horse shite.

If people aren't allowed to vote in the first 18 years of their lives, it's reasonable to legislate that people aren't allowed to vote in the last 18 years of their lives.

Otherwise it should be considered ageism.

The UK voting in these elections are completely pointless, they'll be out before anything meaningful happens in the EU parliament.

Why would anyone vote for Tories or Labour in the elections anyway?

Gives us the chance to protest vote away from the usual bellends. Just concerned it gives Farage a boost. :(

Over 70s voting in the referendum was completely pointless. They'll be long long dead before they would see any possible benefits.

It isn’t even getting started.

The reason the over 70s say they voted which I've heard numerous times was that they were doing it for their grandchildren. I'm sure their grandchildren will be eternally thankful.

On the other hand everyone could give the real reason they voted Brexit, which would make a nice change.

“Old people voted to return Britain to the country it was when they were young - tatty, racist and out of date.”

Labour now polling at 6% in Scotland and on course to finish in 6th place up here. Utterly dire from them.

Tories not doing much better on 7%.

For what it's worth I imagine these figures are slightly underestimating both parties, but if they're both even 5% higher, still embarrassing.
