Varchester City 18/19 discussion

Some fans would probably say I am just bitter as a Liverpool fan when I write this. They are free to do that, but it does not make this less true. We need to address this. The elephant in the room. And that is that a team, backed by money from a country with slavery, racism and terrible human rights records, have just one the league, and they are using this as a propaganda machine.

Let me make this clear. Almost no team in the world is on the high ground here. I am just writing this here to maybe get some focus on this again. It sickens me all the praise this team is getting, without even problematize how the club has become what it is.

The owners of Manchester City have built up their riches on the back of exploitation of migrant workers, that has a structural racism backed into it. Addition to that, the United Arabs Emirates is being criticized regularly for their unfair trails, lack of freedom of expression, torture, and discrimination against women.

One example of this, is for example the trafficking of children as used for jockeys. I first read about this in an article by Nicholas McGeehan (http://www.josimar.no/artikler/the-men-behind-manchester-city-the-dark-side/5040/) in which he writes about the leisure activity of the royal family behind Manchester City. Camel racing, with children as jockeys. As he writes:

“Children who spoke to Anti-Slavery International said that they were underfed to keep their weight down, forced to work long hours with either minimal or no pay, and beaten. UNICEF reported that some children were also sexually abused. Save the Children described harrowing stories of children stung by scorpions while they tried to sleep, children bitten in the face by camels as they posed for photos with victorious sheikhs, children given electric shocks for stealing dates intended for the camels, and child jockeys trampled and left untreated in the backs of vans. “

This year, we have seen something fantastic, and that is players speaking up against racism in football. I really hope that this continues, and that we start addressing other issues here as well.

For me, owners like the owners of Manchester City should not be allowed to buy a club that is loved by so many, and then use it as a propaganda machine. They should be thrown out of this sport. Football was and is the escape for many workers from their daily life, and to enjoy something beautiful. Our joy however should not be built on the exploitation of other workers, and other horrible acts of human rights violation.

But are we doing anything? No. We are just all saying that this is something we can’t do anything about. We pay the tickets and we praise the football and turn the blind eye towards the uncomfortable.

It’s fecking sickening.

I suggest you start at home, and with the $1.1 billion fine Standard Chartered just received for involvement in money laundering from Iran. This selective outrage doesn't work. The average fan watches the sport and enjoys it, the average fan doesn't engage in international politics.

Yeah, I could start with that. Don't think I could get many people into it though, as it is more abstract. Manchester CIty is more concrete and easier to get something moving, even though I doubt it will happen. I want to try though. Start with one and then maybe get something to change?

Give me a break. I see this all the time on here. Yeah City owners are probably beneficiaries of this system but they're not the people responsible for it. If you have any dirt on the owners themselves, then go ahead and prove it else quit blaming them for every news report you see out there.

Liverpool is owned by an American company, whose president separated children from their parents at the border. Should I attribute that to Liverpool? I am willing to bet you haven't stepped a foot in UAE. I don't want to sit here and defend UAE, a country with a thousand issues but football is no place to bring geopolitics in, especially when you just exaggerate it like that.

You can't pretend to be acting altruistically and then take aim at a club/country you don't like. You're transparent.

If I was a Manchester City fan, then it would have been acceptable and you would agree?

It's hardly the elephant in the room. It's discussed at length in pretty much every City-related thread on the forum.

There was nothing to stop ADUG buying City because there's nothing relevant in the fit and proper persons test that relates to any of the issues you mentioned in your post. That test is mainly focused on fraud, corruption, and other similar criminal convictions. So I don't really see on what basis you could now retroactively throw ADUG out the sport.

I think the general problem for the sport now is that teams are worth so much money, so it narrows the pool of potential buyers considerably. In that pool, you're going to have sugar daddy type investors that have made their billions "fairly" and you're going to have others who have made their billions in rather unscrupulous ways. Is it possible to distinguish between them at the time of purchase to prevent the unscrupulous sugar daddies from entering the game? And then you're going to have investors who don't have the money to buy the club outright, so rely on a leveraged buyout and then saddle the club with debt. Modern football, eh...

You should make a petition, you Liverpool fans are great at that. :)

Whats "fecking sickening" is the fact that your team's main sponsor, Standard Chartered have been money laundering and financing terrorism.
While i agree that any humanitarian made disasters are something we need to act on, there seems to be a lot of hypocrites when it comes to these topics too.

Now honestly do you have an interest in Camel racing and the effects it has on humanity? You could have used Yemen as the reference cos this is bigger than any camel racing you can imagine.

Now back to Standard Chartered, i cannot prove which terrorist organisations Standard Chartered have helped fund, but how does it feel knowing that your clubs main sponsors have probably had a hand in the death of British troops?

I'll give you another opinion. It has feck all to do with football. It does not make you Princess Di or Mother Theresa and why should you change the team you have supported all your life, because someone or some sponsor has got on board?

Sounds absolutely moronic doesn't it?

Didn't realise that Standard Chartered were linked to Iran.
So this has everything to do with Yemen. No wonder Liverpool fans are hard at it over the atricities there and the war against the terrorist group the "Houthi's".
So let me get this right, Liverpool fans are pissed off with the UAE because they and KSA are fighting the terrorist group via their support of Iran?

All makes sense.

Anyway back on topic.

Will VAR help other teams or help City more this season?

Has this been posted already? God, these celebrations are so miserable, quiet and absolutely lacking of any passion that it’s beyond laughable, I can imagine some clubs and fans celebrate promotion to Championship more fiercely than this :lol::lol:

Juventus 8 titles in a row
Bayern 7 titles in a row
PSG 6 titles in 7 years.

City already won 2 titles in a row and looks like going to be dominating the league for foreseeable future. EPL is in danger of loosing the competitive edge which makes the league so exciting and marketable worldwide. Is the FA going to do something about FFP and whatnot??

Man City was also very close to achive the quadruple. They should have won against Spurs in CL. I would fancy them against Ajax and Liverpool.

In what universe? :wenger::confused:

Their success depends on how long Pep sticks around. If he goes, they’ll still pick up a title every two to three years but it’s unlikely they’ll dominate.

In what universe? :wenger::confused:

This universe. He explained what he meant.

It amazes me that City get a pretty easy time of it on Redcafe while LFC seem to warrant five different active threads.

The financial cheating is off the charts. Mourinho brought it up right at the start but it was labelled as sour grapes.

A domestic treble. There's a reason why doubles are so rare, and there's never been a treble.

Brought this up in another thread, but prolly more suited here. Interesting to see what Pep does with the likes of Kompany and David Silva this summer. Players who were instrumental in City’s past success but are now clearly past their best. Still think they can be useful, but how will they feel about becoming squad players rather than guaranteed of making the first XI?

Domestic quad. Will probably never happen again.

I hate to say this but we need to follow either their model or spurs/liverpool model.

They made a mockery of this league. Of course people say they have the best squad and they are right but the way they dominate teams it's unbelievable. Anything less than 3-0 is pretty much a bad game for them. Pep made them so good that even when he leaves they will still win things for 10 years, just like Barca do now.

I’ve said it before, but I don’t think anyone else is winning the league until Pep and Klopp decide to feck off.

Sounds as if 20 people showed up to it

All they are short are the school kids counting down from 5 to 1.

By far the best, have the best players, are somehow fitter than everyone else, are somehow quicker and sharper than every other team, have more money than any other team, seem to get the rub of the green with every ref, are just better than anyone right now. The rest need to catch up and quick otherwise the English game will turn into the French league.

Now please God, no cheesy video's with 3 year old songs. No silly singing on the plane on the way home and shoot whoever does our social media video's before he gets behind a camera.

People will say its the money and well it is but no Pep, no City at their current level. He might never master the CL without Messi but I don't think there has been anyone better at conquering domestic football ever. Give any manager the best team and they'll win but Pep does it with such dominance its hard to explain. He might only excel in one situation (its likely we'll never find out if he can do it with an underdog) but he is the best in that situation.

Its really odd they are clearly a great team but no one(Including me)could give a shit.

They really won't. There is no Messi and this isn't the easy Spanish league.

Er... Pep is great but this is a bit much.

Yea, the same mighty epl where they got 100 and 98 points

He's dominating this league more than he did in la liga and Germany.

Only he did. Mancini and Pellegrini didn't. If he stays then they will probably win in the next ten years. Not otherwise.

Meh for some reason I don’t really care. It all seems a bit hollow.

If city didn’t having financial doping, Liverpool would have probably won the PL and CL double.

Now that’s a scary thought.

Er... Pep is great but this is a bit much.

I mean Ferguson is great, imho the best manager of all time. What I mean is he doesn't or didn't dominate seasons in the way Pep does (of course he had to rebuild his teams and didn't have infinite cash) but his teams never relentlessly beat the bottom clubs like Pep's do. Wherever Pep goes he smashes points tallies set by amazing teams. He amasses points in a way no other manager does, its weird.

That is not me saying he's a better manager than Ferguson, Ferguson could win with underdogs and he beat Mancini's City with RVP and a bunch of mid table players which Pep could never do. Pep is good at one thing, give him the best horse and he'll beat the WR time with said horse. Give him an average horse and we don't know if he'll win.

Sir Alex would win with any horse but not by as clear a distance as Pep.

I hope that makes sense.

They have bought refs and rigged draws too. The amount of things they get is beyond luck in my book. If you add it all up the most easy answer is corruption.

They would probably not need it to win the cups, but they are still doing it.

Hopefully Aguero and Silva age will catch up soon. I doubt they will be that good without those two.

Pep is still coaching after the final whistle

No wonder he's always burnt out by the end of his tenure. He'll walk after next season, not sustainable (please...)
