Internationals June (Euro Qualifiers + Nations League Finals)

Does Harry Kane insist on playing or something, I actually can't believe he's starting another football match.

This ref hasn't seen a foul he doesn't like to give.

In no other country in the world would Dier and Rice be midfielders. Incredibly limited awareness to receive the ball in space and move it through the channels quickly.

This game should be put to bed long ago.

Both linked to Man. United in last week. They can do better.

Surely Southgate won’t be your manager for long if he continues like this on the EC

If he's a failure in the EC (less than quarter finalists, barring a freak draw where we get France or something first round) I think he'll get the chop.

Personally I think he should just be replaced now, but that's just because I really do not rate him as anything other than a likeable fellow who has united the squad. Which I guess is an achievement when it comes to England, but he's a bang average manager in every other aspect and I really do not see us winning a tournament under him. I hope I'm wrong.

And who would you replace him with?

He's our best striker and arguably the best English player, especially when you take in to account how Sterling normally performs for the NT bar maybe 2 games in his entire career.

That's why he starts. I doubt he's insisting on anything, Southgate just rates him.

Are you new to football or something, the captain is the first name on the team sheet...besides he didn't start the last match so not sure what you're on about?

Yeah this is the key issue, England has a pitiful lack of quality managers, hence why we ended up scraping the barrel and appointing Southgate in the first place.

I wouldn't be opposed to going foreign again and maybe bringing in a Wenger or even a Mourinho if the budget could stretch and they were up for it, a manager who knew English football but wasn't English would be acceptable I think.

That might not be the solution though, I just think going forward do you win anything under Southgate? In the world cup he showed zero tactical versatility and stuck with a 3-5-2 even when it was being horrifically exposed by Croatia in the second half, we also created nothing from open play all tournament aside from against .. Panama.

The point he's obviously making is that Kane clearly isn't fit. He wasn't fit in the CL final, he wasn't fit when he came on against the Netherlands and he isn't fit now. Playing him in such a pointless game is just madness, maybe the only plausible explanation is that Kane insisted on playing.

Wilson must be wondering what has to happen for him to get involved.

There's a reason why a half fit Kane starts over a fully fit Wilson...

Does seem odd to call untried striker into the squad and not give him any minutes so far. Wilson is a good striker at Bournemouth and makes nice runs off last defender so he could actually be effective at international level.

But I thought this was a friendly that didn’t mean anything?
So why play half fit players, try someone else out who is actually fit

In a game like this, there's actually no good reason for it at all.

It is just interesting that Southgate would call up a striker knowing that he still won't play him even if one of the other two options are as much as 50% capable of playing, in a meaningless match. Incredibly bizarre criteria.

Sterling is new John Barnes. Huge at club level but can't really win games at international level which the really elite players can do.

I don't know why people are complaining about Kate when Sterling is far worse
