Oh man, that’s sad.

Yeah but I was newbie at that time and new newbie rule wasn't in place. I know what you meant btw

Love the idea of rock the casbah chant for him. Your wingers won't like him, Aaron wan-bissaka

I meant the part about them having a United thread was sad, I wasn’t calling you sad

Edit: white text, damn it

Regarding the RW position: I doubt we will see much of James. He is a Championship player so I am not expecting him to go straight into the first team.
Lingard and Mata were rotating for the RW position last season and I expect that to continue being the case this season, unless one of those gets injured or if James performs far above expectation.
Just as Dalot was never going to be a game changer, neither is James.
I think CB is definitely a priority, but not sure if Woodie sees it that way. The fact that we leaked so many goals last season is probably lost on Woodward.

I'm being optimistic. Just having James on the pitch which stretch defenses because of speed. And if AWB is solid than playing James will not be too risky.

From my understanding, Crystal Palace's fanbase (at least those who go to the stadium) are pretty much against the whole modern football culture. Some even rooted for the club to not be promoted, as the Premier League rules are against standing up, singing sections etc. United, on the other hand, is the embodiment of that modern profit-oriented culture. Plus there's the Cantona incident — and we've beaten them in the 2016 FA Cup final, which they probably haven't forgotten yet.

You won’t have heard the name before because it’s not talked about at all, but google what happened to Paul Nixon during that Cantona season and you will find more serious context for the general dislike for Utd among our fanbase, certainly our older fans anyway. The other stuff is all supercifial really, what happened to Paul that day still causes great upset due to the lack of any convictions.

Long time ago now mind.

Interesting!

Delighted to sign this kid, welcome to United AWB.

However, I am concerned to see rumours (as a consequence of his signing) that we're happy to let Dalot go.

I think he could be really good and surely a better option than Young?

Naturally hoping to be proven wrong on this one. He’s not a player I’d have signed. His touch and technical ability is too poor, and conceptually, I’m not sure I like what it says about the team as a whole.

Ultimately, I think prioritising a full-backs offensive qualities suggests more that we are building a plan to go out and beat teams - be proactive in imposing our own style on other teams rather than being set up to best repel theirs. For me, Wan Bissaka can’t really be part of a plan first designer to go and beat a team. He’s part of a plan to stop them beating us. When I look at other top sides with cohesive offensive structures - these aren’t really the traits of their full backs.

A full back whose best attributes are slide tackles is certainly useful, but not what I’d have gone for.

How soon will the lad want out if his first team-sheet has the names "Smalling" and "Jones" alongside his own?

I'm glad we've signed him. He's a good defender. We're 1 top CB away from an excellent defence. Who will be our VVD.

Until he starts playing for us, I would reserve judgement.
Lots of players arrive at MUFC with promise and then fail spectacularly.
Just last year, we got Fred, who has been a complete flop, so far.
Sanchez was a Galactico class signing and we all know how that went.
And then we had Dalot, who many fans hyped up beyond belief when we got him. He is a youth player and last season demonstrated this.

As of now, we have a crap defence which is the worst MUFC have had in many years (I think since the 80's, though not sure).

Our biggest hurdle to success remains Woodward. As long as he stays, we'll be aiming for 4th place. Bissaka won't change that.

@sunama Shaw and Lindelof are both pretty good I think. AWB shouldn't have too much trouble either, he's PL proven and isn't a 30 year old winger coming off an injury like Sanchez. I'm less concerned about our defence than I am midfield and attack now.

Stolen from somewhere else but this is quite funny:

Wan Bissaka
Two Bissaka
Three Bissaka
Four!
No Ashley Young at right back ANYMORE!

I imagine he's crossed a fair bit less than some of them, but he should be better in attack than given credit for by a lot. While I do worry if he's 'attacking enough', I'm hopeful he'll be given more attacking duties and we'll get to see him shine there.

Jesus, football fans are a bunch of sad wankers. People on here slate us but we're far and away the best I see.

Not sure what are they moaning about?. Player wants to move from Palace to United for new & bigger challenge. What’s wrong with that?

Exactly. No need for bitter hatred. Proper lame. The guy, by all accounts, kept his head down and worked hard for their club, and has moved on.

A little mean to Ashley but I struggle to care.

Duels won :lol::lol::lol:

No one is doubting AWB is a better RB - but stats like these prove nothing without context. It could be that Young wins 90% of his duels (but faces far fewer of them), and AWB wins 70% (or whatever no. You want to make up), but faces a lot more - which is more than fathomable given Palace should be defending more than Utd.

That's disgusting. I never knew!
Obviously I knew idiots/hooligans were around, but had never heard of that story.
I'd say their hatred is justified, even if a bit off the target.

For anyone that wants a read on this:

Football has changed since then but Paul was an ordinary guy going to the football and that should not have happened to him.

Back to AWB, I think he’s going to be brilliant for you. He is not Cafu yet but he’s got all the tools and I’ll miss watching him play every week.

Nice moves but is anyone else worried that Jones is trying to tackle him like Boris Johnson against a small child :nervous:

Ffs he's basically a sentient boulder.

Only played 45 mins today, but won every tackle. Almost like he’s got telescopic legs! Very, very impressive imo. Got forward a fair bit too, though it was against a pretty crap, nine man defensive side. We’ve finally got this position sorted, a very shrewd buy.
