Haha, so true. At least the US has won international tournaments since then![]()
We'd have a solid handful of trophies too if we played in the fecking Gold Cup, mate.

Which is correctNo, it's correct, it just disallows a lot of goals nowadays for being a boot's distance offside. Then you have the handballs that get slowed down to become penalties. Makes the game more boring imo.
Aye the current handball rules are the worst. I quite liked the “unnatural” position bit. VAR could have been used to try and get more consistency in that. But now it’s a penalty whenever the ball strikes the hand it seems. No matter the position/intent.I dislike Var if I'm being honest, games becoming a game of tiny margins rather than actual moments. The random handballs are the worst.
Ok we lost to Panama? England didn't qualify to the Euro in 08. Netherland in the past 2 major tournament? Whats your point? It is obvious football is growing in America SUBSTANTIALLY and that bothers certain people (Particularly the English I dont know why).1. They couldn't beat Panama to qualify for the last world cup. Huge improvement, I am overawed.
2. Maybe.
3. Someone literally said that in this thread. And you could predict almost any large country to win a world cup 'eventually'.
4. Maybe it will .. who knows? It's not ingrained in US culture like it is in Europe/South America, where football is king.
So bored of hearing from Americans 'we'll be a superpower at football soon!', sorry. Been happening forever. Actually do it.
Truly the one everyone wished they had.
Am I imagining things or was there something about “has to be daylight between attacker & defender” in the offside rule once upon a time?![]()
VAR will change the game so much & for the worse.
With these freeze frames how do you know EXACTLY when the ball is played?

Like I said if football became the main Sport in the United States tomorrow within 20 years they would be one of the top footballing nations. The talent pool here would be too big.
That won't happen which is why the process will be longer. But it will happen but people have to be Realistic.
Look at the woman game where it Is prioritized and they are so far ahead any other nation in that respect.
No you wouldn't. You'd still find a way to lose to Mexico and USA and Costa Rica. Hell, in a semifinal i'd expect you'd find a way to lose to HaitiWe'd have a solid handful of trophies too if we played in the fecking Gold Cup, mate.
Fair point, well made. I’ll send up the smoke signals and get it started.Nah, the Murica f**k yeah! part has a bit more umph about it.
Yet again a completely marginal call. VAR needs a 30cm margin of error, unless the cameras are perfectly in line it is still a guesstimate.
How do linos do ? At least with this, the margin for error is smallerVAR will change the game so much & for the worse.

Wasn't VAR introduced to be used lightly to overturn obvious wrong decisions? Why is it used 20x a game for mm decisions?
The first date I ever went on with my wife was to a sports bar to watch England lose to the USMNT at the World Cup.No you wouldn't. You'd still find a way to lose to Mexico and USA and Costa Rica. Hell, in a semifinal i'd expect you'd find a way to lose to Haiti
There's no point giving him the time of day. He's never interested in actually conversing.Ok we lost to Panama? England didn't qualify to the Euro in 08. Netherland in the past 2 major tournament? Benefit for the striker should be when a ref watches in real time and isn't sure. It loses all meaning when you have VAR. You can't expect benefit for a striker that's offside on the evidence of VAR.

Folks from England hate the idea of the USA becoming a good footballing nation. Don't know why.I mean, we could say that about England since 1966...

Because that’s the way VAR was always going to go- goal celebrations won’t be the same again- you’ll never know if someone was a toe nail off in the build up
