To be honest we were too light in midfield by the end of the Fergie era.
I don’t think the current midfield is as bad as people make it out to be. McT and Pogba could form a very nice pair. Matic seems slow but is still a good back-up. I don’t think Fred is as bad as people make him out to be (have high hopes for his second season) and Pereira is not bad either. We have a couple of options imo, and hopefully some of the combinations will work out fine.
Yeah agree with SAF, ha yeah remember that 09 summer jesus wept! I can remember mates, family when we sold Ince to Inter Milan and obviously Hughes went, Kanchelskis and it was like, were are the replacements.
Personally love the fact that Ole is looking to promote Greenwood rather than going and buying a Ben Yedder/Mandzukic, pace, high press, bring through the kids, young hungry, bring it on!
I think that there would have been no apocalypse that would have needed to be averted if Ole said that he's disappointed about how things turned out in the transfer market. There's no need to take it to the ridiculous level Mou took it but one comment would have been enough to make it known that he's no poodle. The fans would have understood that and would have rallied around him if things got tough.
He chose to toe in line with Woodward instead. Lets hope they won't throw him under the bus as they did with the three previous managers.

Never said you did, i'm just saying that there were a lot of differences between then and now, and we had a lot more positives with the manager being one of them. I do remember the meltdown, but it was more about the letting go of 3 first teamers (especially Ince and Hughes) ... but we did still have the manager that everyone had a lot of faith in, so yeah.
We should be aiming to win the Europa League as it gives us another chance of CL qualification.

Ole believes that if we can't finish top at least we can start playing attractive football again with commitment. An improvement on the dross served up for the most of the past 6 years.
I don't understand the negativity here. OGS has come in and got rid of Fellaini, Valencia, Lukaku. Just close your eyes and imagine any of them playing with any previous Man Utd team before 2011. The fact they are gone makes this a much better sight. Yes we didn't get a good season last year but at least we played well. There was HOPE. At any match, at any point of time there was hope that we could score at any time now. Under Mourinho, we would definitely know the result before going to the game. Give the man some credit for
1) Getting rid of Fellaini, Valencia, Lukaku
2) Giving our team some identity - its a young team, with a core English players with speed who rely on movement rather than physicality and height
3) To an extent playing some good football with the ball on the floor. I think everyone is spoilt playing Football Manager - "sell 7 players here put the money here on 8 players. Total transfer spend = 0 and I've improved the team.". Changing the culture is a process and at least there is direction now. It took us 7-8 years to be like this and asking to undo it in one transfer window is ridiculous. It will happen - mark my words - Non functioning members will be slowly replaced. First full pre-season, first transfer window, lot of young players to look forward to, mobile team (as opposed to lump team). Be cheerful and lets enjoy the season. No pessimism.

I don't have high expectations for the season. I'm hoping to see change of attitude. Attacking spirit and that this season, our players start believing again that they are the best in the world. If that happens, I'm happy.

Alexis has come in and trained well, of course he’s four or five weeks behind the boys and he has not played apart from the one behind closed doors here, I think he’ll see this as an opportunity as well to make his mark.
I do expect him to stay, there’s a striker there we think is going to be able to score some goals.

It's a necessity that Gomes breaks into the first team asap this year though. We also need Fred and McTominay to reach top form, and Andreas to show us why Ole gave him a new contract.
I was doing way too much “partying” to put it mildly in 2009 so there could have been some discontent but from what I remember, from my United supporting mates etc, was dissatisfaction that we didn’t get one of Robben, Sneijder, or Robinho in cash plus player type deal.
+ we still had a fantastic squad in a league which was basically waaaaaaaay crappier then the current one.

Also never really get this huge push to let Smalling and Young go in particular... if we let Young go we'd have to go out and sign a back-up full back, and same with Smalling (i.e getting a back-up centre back) or buying two first team centre-backs in one window, which was never going to happen.
Ole says the squad is confident, pre season says the squad is confident. Above all else that is what matters.

But what good does that do? Does it help him? Does it help the team? Does it improve his relationship with anyone? The answer is no to all those questions. It will be deemed as a negative comment that the board will not look favourably on, and let's not forget, they are his employer. You don't publicly slag your boss off at the first opportunity.
What Solskjaer says to the press and what he says in his meetings to Woodward are completely different. Just because he didn't come out and say he's disappointed doesn't mean he's toeing the line. If anything it may convince the board to back him in January if they see he's making more of an effort to not throw the nobs under the bus at every opportunity.
Anyone that watches football knows to blame for our shortcomings and Solskjaer verbalising that doesn't help the situation in any capacity.

Deadwood leaving will force Ole to play youth. 'Deadwood' won't be replaced if there's a mass exodus. Do fans want that : youth over experience?

The only summers without meltdowns ended in tears. Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Falcao summer for example. Even the Pogba summer was a single Guidetti 2 yard miss from ending in tears.

Exactly. Some of these people haven't got a clue and makes me feel the level of footballing debate on here has regressed to alarming levels. I mean, it was never great but it's actually horrendous now. So many clueless people.

Completely different since we still had a spine of winners and leaders in the team. This season we have no one of that level of leadership or quality.
I think you got that wrong. Poch was not complaining about lack of signings; he was complaining about not being involved. Frankly, he doesn´t sound much happy about his role at Spurs, and I put my money on him being sacked as one of the first this season. He does want to be there anyway (he want´s Ole´s job).
If anything we need the Europa League to give our youngsters a chance to break into the first team. We also need it to give games to the deadwood so we can keep them away from the PL fixtures. I'd love it if Matic, Mata, Lingard, Jones, Smalling and Young only played EL and never PL.
Think fans forgive a lot of failing if they are at least being entertained. It's his first full season when his style can be implemented. If things go well for him, then it is up to the club to build on any feelgood factor there is.
The trouble is we don’t know if he has been shafted. For all we know (as ridiculous as it sounds) he may have only wanted Longstaff in midfield. He may not have wanted to replace Lukaku. We just don’t know.
At other clubs you would have got leaks indicating that the manager was furious with the lack of midfield reinforcements etc but we have had nothing but Ole saying that he is happy with the squad.
Personally I believe that Ed and the board regret appointing Solskjaer on a permanent basis and this has once again affected our summer recruitment.
Appointing such an inexperienced manager to oversee the biggest squad rebuild in over 30 years was farcical and shows how incompetent the board and Ed are.
Even the great Sir Alex would struggle with this squad let alone a guy that is a rookie when it comes to top level football management.
I think it does. When things are going to get tough then the fans will rally around him simply because they know that the club didn't backed him adequately. There's a reason why Pochs planted that negative interview few days ago and which seemed to have had a huge effect on them. No board, not even hard as nails Levy would want to be blamed of everything. Let alone Woodward whom unlike Levy at Spurs, no one really likes.
That doesn't mean he needs to be constantly negative and destructive as Mou was. That will have the contrary effect. Its all about balance really. A well thought comment would show that he'll refuse to be a fall guy without him risking of losing the dressing room.

When someone says he's a head coach then the reason for that is almost certainly because they refuse to back the manager financially.
If we play like we did when Ole first came in but come up short, then fans will be forgiving and will back him 100%.
If we are putting out clueless performances like we saw at the end of last season then Ole will have nowhere to hide and he’ll be gone before Xmas.
