Bruno Fernandes performances 2019/20

Yep. It's so easy that Raul Jimenez was banging in 40 a season for Benfica and the likes of Neves and Boly were among the best in the division. Oh, wait ...

Seriously, obviously there's a big gap in quality between the PL and the Portuguese League. But considering the amount of successful exports from the league, dismissing a talent on the basis of playing there is insanity. And to act like it's some easy job to score 20 and assist 13 from midfield in any decent European league is even more ridiculous.

Seriously, some of the biggest talents in the world have come from that division, so why are you so desperate to play it down?

Spot on mate. I dont understand the constant undermining of the league all the time. OBVIOUSLY it is no where near the level of EPL but if you look at most top clubs in the world they have someone who played there trade in the Portuguese league.

Also it was 33 goals and 18 assists ;);)

It's weird. A league can be overall inferior whilst still producing some big talents that stand out ... look at Joao Felix, would Atletico be paying that kind of money if they thought anything he did in Portugal was null and void? It's still football at a decent level. I mean Wolves did pretty well and their core is mainly made up of Portuguese league exports, and hardly ones who were ripping it up there either.

And yeah, I was referring to his league stats only. His season as a whole was simply insane numbers wise for a midfielder, and to dismiss it as 'oh it's just a poor league' is weird. Even if a player was doing that in the championship I'd be seriously impressed.

Ya I used Wolves an example too who he claimed would get "2nd place in Serie A" whilst the best players in there team were all bench players in the Portuguese league bar Joao Moutinho. Arguably their best player Jimenez could not start over a 34 year old Jonas at Benfica.

Portugal and France (the leagues) have produced and provided some of the biggest talents in world football on a consistent basis.

You would think with football globalization that people would be more open minded about players from leagues like Portugal and France but no. There are quality players all over, they just need the right setup and opportunity to shine in most places.

 Oh yeah I remember that.

Sometimes you do get players who struggle with the step up and prefer to be in a more comfortable zone with more space/time (even when they are clearly talented, it's more a mentality thing imo) but a majority of the time if you're tearing it up like Fernandes has, you're going to be good enough in any league.

Anyone who shits on Portuguese league can feck off though, Ronaldo, Nani . Then Anderson who was good now and then but he will be like elite midfielder compared to what we have now.

The thing is there a few people on the CAF but also in general who believe thats its EPL or bust which makes no sense. The best players to ever play in the EPL all came from inferior leagues so that whole concept to me makes no sense.

Anderson was such a weird one because he had what looked like all the tools to be a top class player but it just never happened for him. He showed it in flashes at United, tHE 8-2 vs Arsenal comes to mind where he showed everyone what he could do.

Especially France. The amount of talent produced there is staggering. People that knock off these leagues are simply dumb.

Like I said in my previous post, mentality. Anderson had the ability and he showed that in the Portuguese league, but he then never built on that talent and ended up clearly not putting the work in off the pitch with his diet, training etc.

There was nothing wrong with Anderson's ability as a footballer. It wasn't like he was only looking good because it was a low level, he looked great in the PL at times.

The depth of talent in the French national side is absolutely staggering, and so many of those players are being brought up through the French leagues so they have to be doing something right.

Portugal, considering the population of the country, also produces an insane amount of elite talent. We as a country (England, that is) seem to be improving in this regard but could still learn a hell of a lot from these countries in terms of producing talented footballers.

Yeah, he used to show in flashes and then get injured for weeks. His ability to run with the ball was very good, used to 'attack the space' and it was so good.

I don't recall ever seeing any sign of a world class player in Anderson at Utd, at any point, ever. He was always a mystery to me. Couldn't score goals, terrible creative passer, couldn't really defend, wasn't particularly quick, had no real engine. I think his best attribute was, as pointed out about, his ability to dribble the ball into open space.. wowza! I don't know what the hell Anderson you guys had at Sporting when he won the Golden Boy but it definitely wasn't the one we got after he broke his leg, that's for sure.

Anderson was never at Sporting. He was at Porto

There was one game at Anfield where he played centre midfield and dominated, I thought we had a great talent at that point. Think he was 18 or 19 at the time.

Just praying they all actually feature because you might want to save them.
It is imperative that we win all of our remaining games so I doubt anyone will be rested.

The doubt is if all 4 start at the same time because Santos is as stubborn as they come.

Shite performance. Not clicking in the national team at the moment for him. Santos seems to be giving him a different role and he is struggling. He needs to improve how Bernardo Silva did finally at the nations league.

What formation was played ? Only watched a little bit of the match,
433?
Felix Ronaldo Silva
Fernandes
William Neves
?

At Sporting he's the main man and he's the focal point of the attacks, everything goes through him. With the national side he's just another good player. Yesterday was a chance for him to show what he can do on the international stage. I expect Guedes to come straight back into the side.

Nice romantic image of if but imagine how badly he would be slaughtered in today's environment. Didn't he score like 1 goal in 5 seasons or something. He would be hounded out of the club today sadly, our success at the time bought players like that lots of chances

Which is a shame because Guedes is shit:lol:

I do agree though Bruno needs to step up more in the national team but it was only his 14th game and it takes time for players to settle in the national team. It happens with almost all players who start playing in the national team.

Scored again today in yet another poor poor performance from Sporting. Watching Sporting is almost as entertaining as watching paint dry.

Also @giorno how the hell did Jese play for Real Madrid?! Watching him on the ball makes my eyes bleed, What an absolute pile of dog shit.

As I a typing this Bruno got sent off for a double yellow. Kill me.

Academy product. Actually a pretty serious talent but he just doesn't have the right mentality. Also did his ACL when he broke through, but yeah, mentality is the biggest issue for Jey M

He just strolls on the pitch and his technical ability is very poor. When he runs he looks like he’s struggling and is in first gear.

Fecking yannick Bolasie looks twice the player

God this is going to be an absolute horrid season.

Yet another loss for Sporting and we are winless in our last 3. In truth we probably could of got a draw but typical Sporting.

Bruno was the best player on the pitch by far and every chance came from him for the most part.

He is all over the highlights for anyone who gives a shit.

Tough tough times for our club with no signs of any turn around.

Marcelino just got available by being dismissed by Valencia owners. Just pointing the obvious. He's a great manager.

10 games:
Goals-7
Assists-5

Current 6 game scoring streak is tied with Jardel and Dost as longest scoring streak since 2001.

In Comparison last season after 10 games he had 4 goals.

Goal today:

Why didn't we sign him again?

He has a release clause, but to trigger it would mean we would have to take Sporting to court as they refused to sell at that price, which would take 1 year or so. Is there a secret gentlemen's agreement in place or what.

Spurs were sniffing around too.

Bruno
---------- Pogba
-----Mc T

With a DM for next summer looks great.

Huh? No the release Clause is 100M but Sporting wanted 70M. The "35M clause" was a deal in place that if Sporting rejected a offer of 35M or more they would have to compensate Fernandes with a 5M fee.

Anyway there is good news in this...for United or any other club. Sporting are having an absolutely horrid season so I feel that will affect his value. Worst Sporting side since 12/13 season and he has single handedly been carrying us just like last season but this season will be much harder to do so.

The funny thing is I would say he is currently NOT in form at all. He is not playing at the level of last season (mostly due to the drama and in tranquility revolving around the people in and around the club) but he is still being decisive and putting up good numbers.

He's actually not been that great despite the stats. Main reason for that is that he's playing in a team that plays like complete crap but still, he's not shown the level he was at last season.

70 million would have been paying way above his worth even though it's obvious he'd improve United's squad

I agree he is surrounded by absolute piles of dog crap. The only other player on the team who has goof ability on the ball and is able to create something is Vietto an he is as inconsistent as they come.

Fred looked good in the Ukrainian league too that's why we paid a lot of money for him (and why Pep/City were interested in him too).

Fernandes only looks world-class because the Portuguese league is weak AF.

English second division is probably more competitive than that league.

How about the other numerous players that came from the Portuguese league and succeeded? How many top class players who were from the Championship are starters on the worlds best teams let alone squad players? The ukranian league has never been a major export for talent. The portuguse and French leagues are the biggest providers to the world best talents.

Let's not be ignorant. They have built more then enough credibility and the ends justify the means.

Mind you Willian and Fernandinho both come from that team in Ukraine and have taken to this league easily. Also Fred was wanted by City cause he performed well against them. Pep has a tendency of signing players who play well against his side.

Pep also has a habit of been linked to rubbish players that we take from them.

Put Bruno into City’s team he’d probably have a few assists and goals, put him into our team and we’d be looking for Lingard to be starting

Yes I know they came from them but its rare. Ukraine historically have not been a major export for talents to the world. Any top team you look at In the world will have a player who played in either Ligue 1 or the Portuguese league, Thats why its dumb to downplay talents from those leagues. For every "Pepe" (granted its still too early to judge him) there is an Edien Hazard, For every Gaitan there is a Di Maria etc.

Which means we have to sort ourselves out instead of blame each and every player that comes here. We dont have a single world class performer at the club despite spending 900 million in the past 6 years.
