She's deleted them all and went on to TV to preach less flying to rescue the planet. She's got a job as a columnist for a big newspaper now as a 23 year old student who hasn't done anything in her life other than holding her face into a camera to preach.

And the solution is what now? People shall pay additional taxes. Great. All the while Germany is producing 1.5 % of the world wide CO2 emissions (entire EU 9 %). The countries that don't give a feck like India, China and the US produce 50 % of it.

These "movements" are the type of shit initiated by a small priviledged group that strengthens all sort of right wing movements across the world. There are FAR more people not willing to accept paying more and getting less and compromise than there are Western urban liberals willing to turn Vegetarian just because a priviledged media hyped child is preaching on TV.

You forget that China and others are making stuff for Europe. Western way of living creates a vicious circle of pollution.

People and countries will have to lead by example. Nothing will happen if we keep pointing at so and so who are actually making all our stuff we consume.
 
I've never both totally agreed and disagreed with a post like the ones from @Cait Sith.

I definitely think that if the big polluters (China, India, US and soon Indonesia and Brazil) don't drastically cut the CO2 emission, then whatever Europe do will mean next to nothing. I also think that the solution is not using less energy, but making incentives to use CO2-free produced energy, be it solar, fission and hopefully soon fusion. Some people going vegetarians and the random Joe not going to holidays in Thailand will mean feck all in grand scheme of things. Instead put a shitload of money on alternative energies, that has to be the only long-term solution.

Also, the protests were very politicised (especially in US) which gave (rightfully so) the right wing media a clear day on calling it a sham.

Germany has a higher per capita contribution than China though? Never mind historical contributions.

You're also skipping over the fact that protests are not localised they are to pressure elected officials to influence and find global solutions.

Dinesh D'Souza is a scumbag... he's basically a slightly less ratty Ben Shapiro. Though this comparison makes me question that assessment.
 
It would be so great if our civilisation managed to live totally on renewable energy and stop polluting nature with our rubbish, and launch huge global preservation projects.. but having some 15 year old child give Jeremy Corbyn style flannel waving speeches is just too much for me. I don't know what's more cringe worthy, the things she says or all the adults who egg her on.

I mean, they've actually made her childhood pretty epic apart from the whole shitting in a bucket thing, but I've shat in worse. The speech sounded like something from a year 9 Shakespeare production. This is my first time hearing her speak and I'm left thinking what the fuss is all about. Her cause is a good one but I'm puzzled as to why she's the figurehead.

It's better for the image if she is. Keeping the person that spiralled this movement at the head of it despite that speech being a bit cringy is only going to help impact people emotionally.

Because she's able to speak with the moral authority of a person whose future is being stolen unlike a baby boomer or gen Xer.

Maybe a childhood doing what adults should be doing is not what she wants to be doing. Maybe she much rather be at school doing teenage things. She is after all only 16.

I think she is absolutely incredible and her actions and perseverance has really put this issue firmly in the public domain where it should be.

While his present might be epic (and was thanks to her not anyone else), maybe they stole her dreams or living in a normal world and not fecked up with climate change disasters and fight for resources
 
Weirdly I reckon she'd prefer a humdrum life in Sweden to running around trying to make people care about the conscious decimation of our biosphere. I can't believe the point is lost on some people who (supposedly) grasp the seriousness of climate change.

She's raised far more awareness and emotion than anybody thus far. Whether you understand it or not, what she's doing is incredible and laudable.

She is bringing greater awareness to the issue among all age groups with her passion.
All she is asking is 'listen to the scientists'

There have been many different conservatives criticisng her, just like many criticised Hogg, among both there was a substantial group that seem to have some deep-seated sexual hatred in their criticsm.
 
She's doing something really important and impressive just through bringing exposure to it on such a regular basis. Far more than any of the arse hole critics in here. I don't think she's a particularly natural leader or motivator so I can't imagine how difficult she finds (or will find) being the voice of that sub-section of the movement. I'm not sure comparisons to MLK are that helpful but hey ho.
 
I dont really get why shes the figurehead either tbh. My criticism for it would be more directed at media, maybe at the absence of an adult saying the same thing. She seems to be getting some attention for the issue so whatever, I'm not picky about the package putting out the message.
Thought the opening of her speech was interesting, 'Were watching you' and the dumb fecks laughed. Bit slow aren't they?

Some people would rather die a painful death than admit that something they (rightly or wrongly) associate with the left is positive in any way.

That comparison with a nazi poster coming from an "intellectual" shows those people are truly lost.
