Prison is too good for these scumbags, destroying a country and ruining lives for profit, they should be tried and executed. Evil like that can not be rehabilitated.

I am. Destroying a nations economy, and literally putting lives and livelyhoods at risk to line their own pocket, that's not just selfish, immoral or bad, it's downright evil.

In normal circumstances I'd agree with you, but the money these kinds of scumbags have access to? They would buy their freedom back in no time at all and be on to the next nefarious scheme. I'm open to alternatives but don't see any. Except maybe state confiscation of all assets, every single penny, wherever it is hidden away, take the only thing they care about.

All a bit scary now. Not sure how this ends. Probably gets worse before it gets better too - next is a majority Boris government and even more disaster.

I'll be amazed if Boris gets a majority. He's fecked if he doesn't get an election before 31st October (which I now think isn't possible anyway).

the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) think tank [...] showed a declining trend in deaths linked to “preventable risk factors” between 1990 and 2012. But between 2012 and 2017, the rate of decline slowed down. Had it kept pace with the previous trend, the report estimates there would have been 130,000 fewer deaths overall since 2012.

The IPPR doesn’t directly attribute the 130,000 deaths that could have been averted to austerity, but it does say that “prevention services and public health has been severely impacted by a decade of austerity”. It also identifies spending reductions in some more specific areas, for example early years, as negatively affecting public health.

[...] University College London [...] using figures to 2014 and comparing them to the pre-2010 trends, the academics found there were 45,000 more deaths between 2010 and 2014, than would have been expected had the previous trend continued. Projecting those figures forward they estimated that between 2010 and 2017 the number of additional deaths would total 120,000.

While lower growth in health and social care spending since 2010 may be behind the increase in deaths, these findings should be treated with caution as the research doesn’t prove this is the case. Reduced spending is one of a number of possible explanations for the results.

SO basically 2 studies agree on the trend that preventable deaths have shot up during Tory rule, both agree on a somewhat similar number and both agree that spending reductions are a big factor in that number.

But for you, a traditional Labour voter, the disgusting part is not the preventable deaths due to austerity.
 
I feel like those not on twitter miss out on 90% of actual news lately. There are some fantastic journalists doing a great job whilst the likes of the BBC act as a Tory mouth piece.

Already today we've got the Mail citing an investigation by No 10 into remainers foreign collusion (lol), Cleverley announcing at conference that the Tories formed the NHS (post-truth world) and the BBC having to delete tweets because they didn't fact check the Tory line when No 10 told them they were building 40 new hospitals.

Yes it is disgusting, that's why I posted the link. Whilst it's hard to attribute an actual figure, I don't think anybody can argue that deaths have increased as a result of Tory policies.

Radio 4 did a piece on this on their More or Less show which fact check statistics. They had this bloke on

He said that while austerity is a plausible explanation there could be a number of other factors at play. The key point was a flatlining of increases in life expectancy, something which has happened across all Western democracies except for Denmark. The UK has performed very similar to Holland in this regard which is the most similar country in terms of climate etc. There has also been some bad winter epidemics and stalling in improvements of heart disease treatments. He also said that something like the widespread prescription of satins in recent years could be reaching the end of their efficacy. I think its fair to say that austerity will have an effect but you have to be sceptical of the figure.
