Saudi sports minister gives update on buying club from Glazers

How much Saudi's money is already in the club? I don't like this "levels of evil". They as sponsors are good but as owners they are not? Yes, yes it is not the same but nevertheless their money is here.

I am not saying that i want them in club. Tbh, i don't know what to think about it. If something starts to happen then i will know.

As sponsors, Saudi Telecom is not using Manchester United to whitewash the immoral activities of the House of Saud or Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is what would happen if the kingdom owned the club outright.

The people wanking themselves silly over this make me sick to my stomach. Literal stomach churning stuff.

First they came for the socialist, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not Jewish.
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.
So you didn’t care until it affected you? Hmm

What about the Chinese taking over? I mean, the Alibaba investment isn't just that. There will be a bigger picture within all this, with a takeover probable. But who is behind it all? Would a Chinese consortium be better than the Saudis?

How you can possibly take meaning that is baffling.
I know the poem if that’s what you mean, had two grandfathers in the war, just don’t understand the relevance.

The Saudi’s aren’t taking over Europe or committing genocide on an industrial level the last time I checked

Nope.

If the Chinese Communist Party took us over it would suck, too. Ditto for any state owned Chinese companies.

Not even a consortium. The Saudi sports ministry ffs.

Bit of an aside, but BBC 5 Live have really annoyed me today with regard to Saudi Arabia.

Focusing on the fight between Joshua and Ruiz, they've played a clip a few times now from what sounds like one of their journalists visiting Saudi Arabia. He opines that it could become an excellent tourist destination and says it's amazed so far at the reception he's been given. At the same time, they've quizzed one of the fighters (unsure which) about whether they think Saudi Arabia should be held accountable for their human rights abuses.
That for me is completely arse over tit — their journalist should be the guy focusing on geopolitics, not the fecking boxer.

But yeah, it seems like the Saudis are on a charm offensive and are using sports as a vehicle so a purchase of the club, or another big one, wouldn't be a surprise.

Honestly, do you think the beeb are the bastion of truth and impartiality? They're just like every other single media outlet.

It does my head in why people just conflate these two things and use that as an argument for Saudi's owning United being not much much worst than some sponsorship deals. Its the same with the arguments Glazers are as bad as MBS they'd welcome the Saudi ownership.

Leeds were bought for £45 million a couple of years ago. Mike Ashley wants around £350 million for Newcastle.

I think this type of purchase is far more attractive to an oil tycoon rather than spending £4 billion on Man Utd. Man City were a nothing club but an example that it makes more sense for an investor to buy a club cheaply, then pump 1 billion into the club, as opposed to spending £4 billion on a giant, and then needing another vast amount to rebuild the team.

Could I still watch Winnie the Pooh?

Here we go again with the lessons in ethics.

Bring on the Saudi’s

We need an owner that lets us operate to our full potential. Owners that do not seek a financial return.

The biggest clubs in Europe have that type of owner, one who doesn’t seek financial returns on their investment.
We need the same platform, we are the biggest brand in world football ffs.

Man up and get on with it. Nobody agrees with their atrocities but owning United won’t exactly make it worse, as I’ve said before if anything the stronger connections to western culture may marginally influence them to avoid further atrocities, with all the worldwide negative press that would bring being United owners.

Sadly their atrocities are not on the news every day because people don’t care enough, once they own United suddenly their behaviour will be bigger news.
Any ‘soft power’ or influence through ‘sports washing’ would be cancelled out by such negative press.

Therefore I only see this as a positive for us and them in the long run.

People need to stop connecting their moral beliefs to their football club, you don’t support the owners you support the club and squad and our history.

By definition when you “support” a football club you assist financially in some form, just as you assist society when you pay your taxes. You may as well say people need to stop connecting their moral beliefs to their government.

So if Hitler had won the war and bought man utd you would be saying that owning utd wont make him gas any more people?

I want us to be the best but not at that price.

I am not in any way advocating that we should be bought by the Saudis but net worth should be used to understand the full picture.

A quick google search shows that Sheikh Mansour's net worth ~ 30 Billion so if he was to buy United then it would require 13.3% of his on-paper net worth. Whereas MBS's net worth is 1.4 Trillion, so to buy united only .3% (that's after rounding) of his net worth would be required. If he wanted to buy United then the money is hardly an issue.

If they choose to buy a club that is probably the route they will go down, there would also be more outrage/resistance if they bought Utd. Could go under radar a bit more with another club and then it would be forgotten about after a while, would suit their whitewashing a lot more that way.

One of the Rantcast guys said a few episodes back that from what he’s heard inside the club a deal isn’t concluded but there is no smoke without a fire so to say.

The Glazers backed Donald Trump for his presidency so MBS would be a step in the right direction.

I want absolutely nothing to do with a Saudi Royal family takeover. Nothing. I'd rather get relegated than see the club be owned by these people

Yeah, agreed.

As much as I want rid of those glazer leeches, to see our club in the hands of those cnuts would be heartbreaking.

Feck this. Save us Ratcliffe please, you're our only hope. Nice is awful anyway just think of all the overcast drizzly days you're missing out on.

It's probably worth pointing out that, before anyone gets confused, a country and a business are not the same thing.

This reads like the apologists for apartheid in South Africa during the 80s, like Gatting’s rebel tour.

I'd rather have IBS than MBS.

I doubt very much United fans “assisting the Saudi’s financially” is what they are looking for by purchasing United, the last thing they need is money.

Who owns United is not a fan choice, we don’t get to vote on our owners, it has no relevance to political voting.

Why are people comparing the Saudi’s to Hitler and the Nazi’s, it’s such an exaggerated comparison.

The former have a poor human rights record and are responsible for some awful things (so are the majority of western countries.)

The latter were aiming to conquer Europe and in the process tried to erase an entire race of people through genocide on an industrial level.

Granted the Saudi’s have some awful traditions and way of life but it’s still a bit of a stretch to compare the two.

Saudi Arabia is a brutal country where women and gays are persecuted and slavery is rife. Any association with the House of Saud should be avoided on moral and humanitarian grounds.

I wonder what people from there think of the country our current owners are from.

This whole levels of evil thing is just plain weird to me reading the posts above. Both sets of people arent good people, its as simple as that. Frankly i cant think of many billionaires that are saints bar Bill and Melinda Gates (Kudos to them)
