PL D FA Premier League

Everton 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 01 March 2020

Looking at the even bigger picture we have City next weekend. Just hope we don't fall too far behind.

We do, and Spurs are at Burnley, a very tough place to go and Chelsea play Everton.

Remember, its top 4 not a title challenge, teams drop points every week and we’re playing quite well at the moment.

Bigger picture ain’t so bad.

AWB needs a rest. When Ole going to recognize that?

Martial and Greenwood were anonymous.

Bruno, Fred and Matic where good in first half. Second half was equally poor by them. Bruno at least was better.

Ref was horrible. And thank god to VAR....again.

He was OK today, he faced an Everton barrage in the 2nd half and held his own.

Dalot will play on Thursday no doubt, offering AWB the rest you feel he needs.

Really needed a win today but in the end a draw is satisfactory based on the way we played second half. We have made some steps forward since Bruno joined us but we have a few players who are regulars but who should only be fringe players at best.

Need a really good recruitment programme in the close season. The Premier League is very competitive at present especially at the top end and we won’t make any inroads next season without getting at least three very good players.

Bruno is the difference. Players around him (with the exception of Mata) are half a step behind what he tries. We need more high IQ footballers.
Looking at Grealish for Utd to take that step up now. Apparently Gabby Agbonlahor says he's better than us. Hopefully we ask Jack his opinion.
Mata for all his IQ was diabolical when he came on.

Ole's lack of proactive-ness is so frustrating at times. He watches the dreadful performance for 25-30 mins and then wakes up leaving little time for new players to settle in.

Didn‘t he make a double substitution on 70 mins with the game at 1-1? Do you want half time subs? I’d understand this point you’ve made if he held on till 85 mins, but 70 mins is a good chunk of the game.

People are fecking dramatic in here. Everton away is always a hard game for us and all big teams (apart from Liverpool). They've been a team that steps it up in big games for years, but now especially with Ancelotti they are just a very good side. Can't complain about a draw and I would've taken a point before the game if it was offered tbh, especially with Leicester losing, Chelsea drawing away to Bournemouth, Spurs losing at home. Away to a team like Everton, the main thing is to not lose ground on your rivals, and we didn't.

Poor game, lucky to escape with a point - although unlucky not to get a goal ourselves. Yet again we create nothing from open play, even the goal was a shot that usually would have ended up as a corner, but you miss all the shots you don’t take as they say.

A game I think summarizes a lot of stuff that’s usually going on with United. Our midfield isn’t that good, when the opposition is pretty strong we are never dominating them. Perhaps important to not make conclusions after beating pub teams in the Europa league? Just as we shouldn’t draw two lines if we’re destroyed by City next week.

Bruno is a joy to watch, imagine him and Pogba together, would be a dream. Greenwood and Martial, not so much. The former is just gathering experience, but Martial just falls out of too many games. He made some defensive runs and impressed so to speak, but still.... just not there for me in the long run anymore. Maguire was good today, a game that fell into his feet, or head is more aptly put. How many of those 12-13 corners did he knock out?

Just like with Watford, we’re helped by a lucky goal. This time we didn’t take the lead and never had the same room to attack in the second half. Except that scramble at the end with Ighalo, did we create even half a chance?

Its a good point away at Everton. They are not a bad team and I would accept a point away at Everton in their current form. Yes it would have been nice if we won but we didn't and I am not going to bash Ole on this today. I still think we need to get a pacier CB and also a pacier DM too.

It’s not disallowed because “de gea wouldn’t have got there” . That isn’t the rule, in fact I don’t see what relevance it has at all.
He’s sat in front of him directly on the ground, about 1 foot away and there’s a question whether or not he’s in his eye line? As in What? unless David De Gea’s eyesight works differently to normal people’s there is no way Sigurdsson was not in his view. Degea could not have judged the path of the ball without seeing Sigurdsson because the ball was on the ground along with Sigurdsson. Dunno why I’m surprised though, judging by the Everton fans at the game today, all the fake injustice with the booing of the ref at half time and full time, genuinely laughable. Can’t even tackle an Everton player clean without the weirdos at Goodison shouting for free kicks.
i don't even think it had anything to do with him blocking ddgs vision, the opposition players aren't obligated to give the gks a clear line of sight to make his save. Unless they are onside i.e. Sigurdsson wasn't and so it was chalked off, if we had a defender on the line for instance that goal would have stood.

We seriously should of been beating them. They were awful at the start and we made them look good after. No disrespect to them, but it is only Everton.

They were much better than us in the 2nd. It was a game of 2 halves. We should be beating them but a point in the end was fair. If we want to be beating Everton we have to be better than them. We weren't today

Draw a fair result. We looked a little tired last 30 after 4 games in 11 days.

Not sure why so many are losing their shit over it. Everton are a tumescent defensive team who are well organised at the back under a very experienced manager.

We could have nicked it and so could they.

Lost the midfield battle in second half. Too many many 50/50 duels went Everton´s way, and that´s the most important reason we lost control of the game. Can live with one point though.

I get the frustrations but that second half seemed typical of a team that has played Europa League the Thursday before.

In an ideal world some of those shots such as the one that hit the post and some that Pickford made great saves from, and no De Get error, we'd have been comfortably up in the first half. As we wasn't we were easy picking in a tired second half.

I actually thought for the first time this season we defending the corners excellently. They had some many and they are very good at them.

I hope we can rest a few key players in the FA cup and have more energy against City.

Top 4 is still in our hands and I expect us to be able to push on.

A draw away to an inform Everton is never a bad result. Big results needed against the next two, they will make or break our ability to get top 4.

Great to see some good patterns of play again in the first half, the subs were probably made too late again and that is one thing Ole can be criticised for.
Yeah we have to put out a second string team in the FA Cup. No Maguire or Fernandes starting.

Everton were very good today and we held on. I’m quite relieved and will happily take that point. We would have lost that game earlier this season. It’s really not too bad a result. Chelsea dropped points too and spurs were beaten.

Maguire was outstanding for us today. Apart from that we had a few non performers. Fred had his worst game for weeks. Martial and Greenwood never got into the game at all.

Fred was phenomenol in the first half. Truth is we looked a seriously seriously good team for 40mins.

Fred and the whole team looked poor in the second.

Back to the two half United, I thought we were excellent first half, Bruno pulling the strings and well deserved the equaliser.
Second half pretty ordinary, we looked tired in midfield , passing becoming poor. To be fair we defended really well and a point was a fair result.
what worries me is the lack of energy from around 60 minutes yet again. Thank goodness for Bruno he looks a class act. Does need support and movement up front, Martial had one of his lazy days yet again.

Just like so many games over the last year or 3, we proved that we don't have mobile attackers when there is only Martial on the pitch. Today was just too tough for Greenwood as Martial just seemed to wander around the pitch again.

I thought Lingard had a good cameo against Brugge and I think I would have preferred him over Martial in the 2nd half or maybe even James. At least they move and make their markers move which would create space to attack.

I would say we are in desperate need of a Striker above all else.

However, that being said, today was guaranteed to be a tough game and it did prove so. To come away without a defeat is some solace. We should have finished them when dominating them in the 1st half but, hey ho, teams around us aren't charging away so onward to the next game and see if we can still make up ground.

Decent in the first half. We still need more quality but Bruno is just fantastic.

This is the type of match, that will prevent United from any serious challenge and it happens almost every season now.

Really hate the whole “a good point” or worse “would take a point” before the game. This lack of ambition is crippling us.

we have to start taking advantage of results like Chelsea’s and Spurs’ if we’ve got true ambitions of top 4.

It's depressing our ambition is still top 4 after so many years.

A decent run of results, Chelsea dropping points yesterday. This was only going one of two ways. The other way was losing.

In the context of what’s become expected of us in these situations, it is a slight improvement.

Totally agree. Lost a bit of momentum with McT going off, he still needs more games to get up to speed, and Martial looked a little off the pace.

Maguire was immense

We had a great reaction after De Gea's mistake, we took control of the midfield and dominated the first half. Don't understand why we capitulated in the 2nd though, we played as if we were defending a lead. A draw is a good result at Goodison, also a fair result.

I think we were lucky that VAR abolished the goal, don't feel Sigurdsson obstructed De Gea's view, nor change the decisions he took. Even if he wasn't where he was it would have resulted in a goal.

Ofcourse he didnt obstruct his view, but DDG knew that if the ball hit Sigurdsson it would be offside. And then he moved his legs. At least thats how I interpreted it.

Aside from that I’m impressed that we didnt concede from the 13-14 corners and free kicks Everton got. They are a strong set-piece team. At least some progression.

Should have done way more in the second half. Fred wasn't good enough when on the ball, in general there was no idea what to do when going forward. Personally i wouldn't be happy with the point, the next game is City and we could easily lose this.

I meant decent in the first half haha. Yeah Maguire was good today.

So disappointing. Just impossible for us to get 3 wins. Dreadful mistake by DDG. Played well for parts in the first half but the team was not setup right today. Both Martial and Greenwood just disappeared.

What is all the OTT crying about here? A point at Goodison is more than we used to get under Fergie at times. It's a tough place to go and they are in good form. I'll settle for that and we roll on to the next. Still plenty of time in this race.

Wolves have an easy run, they will take 4th imo

United needed to win today to get some insurance for the next three

Harry Maguire not being MOTM on here is a crime.

The most obvious MOTM you're likely see that was.

What's frustrating for me was this could very well have been 3pts and a real turning of the corner in our league campaign where we come out in a brawl against a motivated everton side but it just seems like an opportunity squandered.

Martial clearly playing through an injury. Should have been taken off 10 mins earlier.

Matic hitting cross bar and wonder saves from Pickford stopping Ighalo and Bruno stopping us from getting the win.

It was a decent result, honestly expected worse considering how well the weekend was going. Big improvement over last season anyways.

We always seem to get Everton away at less than opportune times. They were so much fresher than us and it showed. Think our lads are fecking knackered.

Wouldn't it be nice to see them try like that against the dippers too. Even against Liverpool reserves they didn't show that much fight. Scouse twats.
