Indeed. I'll be boarding the Jubilee line there in about 10 minutes (and only live one stop away). One hopes that the tube trains are being regularly sterilised (although, somehow, I doubt it).
You just shut down the non-essential stuff for day-to-day life. That seems enough to slow it down. So far, news from China seem to indicate that. Stuff like groceries store, garbage collection, and a myriad of other stuff keeps happening as normal or a few restrictions. Restaurants, discos, football games, churches, don't.
I don't see why you couldn't continue with deliveries from country to country but ban tourists and other non-essential visitors. Lorry drivers must only make a small percentage of the total visitors to a country and work in relative isolation. As long there are enough people to produce, package and pack food then things could continue quite normally in that regard.

yea i was actually saying something to my neighbour recently. Imagine that if they shut the country they would still allow the truck drivers to move freely.
But would you be able to shop in tesco or aldi or whomever? Or would they be closed and a different method used?

You could have deliveries only with delivery men wearing protective equipment which would be safest but quite difficult to meet demand.
The next option could be to limit the numbers in the supermarket at any one time, it would be easier to do than the first option but Tesco would look like a nightclub on Saturday night.
The third option would be to open as normal and have staff routinely clean touch screens, surfaces, baskets and then make everyone wear gloves and perhaps masks.
These are in extreme cases though.

Where did you get that figure? Flu deaths per season are estimated at between 300,000 and 600,000
That's usually taken as between October and May.
So in the period since Covid-19 started well over 100,000 will have died from influenza (assuming about 3 months)

As this thread has shown, there's so many idiots who will know they have it, but will just continue forcing themselves into work and going out and about if they feel completely fine within the 2 week period.
I really feel the incompetent government should take drastic action and if people are confirmed they should be monitored and actually forced to stay home. Big punishments if found going out and contaminating anyone.

Its not really accurate to compare number of deaths caused by flu and deaths by coronavirus as there are quite a few different strains of flu and only 1( possibly 2) strains of Sars CoV 2.

He’s also complained that schools are not closed, then said that HSBC closing a floor for a deep clean is them panicking. He must have posted 40% of the posts in this thread and every single one just takes the position of criticism.
Most people won't, they'll just assume everything will be fine, and even if they do get it then it'll be nothing too serious for them, that's my approach anyway, I don't really know how else people are expected to approach something like this, just carry on, and don't worry too much.

Although I'm not entirely sure the USA fits what I meant by "modern world" in this particular context, a quarantine center is not the same thing as an hospital. The question was specifically about treating people who are sick, that seems to bedesigned to keep assmyptomatic carriers or very suspicious contacts away from the general population.

The fact is : We created this global economy based on a (mainly) Capitalist framework. We can’t just stop. There are no mechanisms in place. Growth must happen or it all falls apart. We can’t press pause.

Phase 1 of the approach was "contain" - how the feck do you expect to contain if you're allowing the virus passage into the country? Yeah, thats one of the worst "battle plans" in history.
Right now, I'd recommend businesses to start encouraging as many people as possible to work from home. Not sure if you be on the TFL but it is packed with people and is a breeding ground for a massive outbreak. I also advocated closing Universities and Colleges, and even possibly even have kids over the age of 16 study from home, too.

I'm suggesting the lack ot government action will result in panic.
And of course people are now panicking - everyone here in London is starting to worry now. Had they began closures, as I suggested in that same post, things like deep cleans would seem normal in these situations.
