It is irrelevant what the work is, if she's paying tax she should get the associated benefits. Not all self employed people are earning fortunes. They pay tax, get no pension contributions, no sick pay, its a ridiculous situation anyway, but made all the worse by something like this.
But why should someone that is self employed have to cover all that, when everyone else gets it given to them?
The government is going to help people isolated with this, that should include everyone.
I didn't even notice that through all the herp-derp in the postTrudeau self-isolating as his wife awaits test results for the virus.

It'd be highly unlikely at this stage since there's only 60000 or so active cases worldwide. Give it a week though and we'll be fecked.

Shocking if true. Although Sturgeon has let the cat out of the bag now so they probably are now forced to do more than they perhaps want to.
Because that's what they chose? If it's not working financially, including periods of sickness, maybe it wasn't the best route to go down?
I'm not just saying feck everyone self employed though, despite the comments about the books, everyone has a different situation. In this particular one, I find it quite daft that she quit her job, spends all week at home, and now is complaining gigs are being cancelled so is getting hit. Maybe wait until you're getting paid enough from it to put money in the emergency fund because shit happens. It's quite easy to do that when most gigs are Friday/Saturday. And just from working more she'd be able to create that fund. Before anyone says that would mean working 7 days a week, it's not exactly tough work, and a lot of people do it for free.

If this happens it's going to royally feck up my plans. I've got hand ins on April 2nd and Viva and Exams at the end of April then I'm done with Uni. I was planning on wrapping up and going back to work as soon as my hand ins are done but if it's extended and all our hand ins are pushed back to summer it's going to be a major headache.
My firm is doing a stress test tonight on the systems, asking everyone who can to log in from home at the same time.
Wonder how the north will work if Ireland is in lockdown effectively and we're just carrying on as normal. Have heard anything about that mate?
We are all waiting for updates at the moment - last I heard everything just continuing as per normal here until told otherwise however we have received a lot of info about what to do from an HR perspective if things change. Care homes however are starting to shut their doors - or at least that is the rumour.
I've got my wedding on 21st March in London! Never been so glued to the news before.
We’ve been told to work from home & only travel if absolutely critically necessary & even then you need permission from line managers. Glad my company is being more proactive than the govt.

Closing until the summer is interesting given other places are only closing for a few weeks (as announced so far at least).
Thankfully this cnut will be arrested and charged when they land. Some twat did this in Canada recently, too.

We weren't worried about reports of bus drivers falling asleep/not getting enough rest until some major crashes happened. Same with airplane incidents and the various underlying reasons for them that could have been prevented, surely Trump is not possibly going to win, etc etc.
Where did you see that? In Italy the doctors tracing cases are saying the opposite.
That's a very isolated case though, there will be people that have been self employed for years. Maybe Brexit etc is already taking its toll, margins are smaller etc etc. This on top of that could be brutal.
Yes, people do choose to be self employed, and to some degree should factor things in. It doesn't make the current system fair though
