Haven't we been misguided by the government wholly?

If people have died who are not in the high risk groups. Even catching this and giving it to someone is dangerous enough.

My brother seems to not give a feck he's still going out and about. My mums just gone to church. I've just messaged both to tell them to come home.

I'm just trying to be cautious.

That's fine for a small island nation. They might be able to afford a policy of waiting for the world to reach a herd immunity around them.

It's not feasible for larger countries.

And let's be honest. Once 70% of the world catches it, the chances are that somebody at point in the future will slip through and bring the disease to them. Then they'll have to go into lockdown again.

That'll be decided by the NHS policy on such things. I don't think they've been published it n the same way that they have done their public guidance.

Isolation for over 70s has been proposed this morning, so I'd imagine something along those line.

Hopefully they have well defined policies in place and disseminated to locations beyond hospitals. The US has fecked this up big time, if there's one lesson from us, it's to avoid the outcome of the Washington state old folks home. I'm not confident the UK has learned.
 
Am I correct in thinking that countries like Japan and South Korea are generally more germaphobic than we are in the West? You tend to see pictures of people from those countries wearing face masks a lot. I'm wondering if this could contribute to their better control of this virus so far.
 
Testing gives an initial view on the picture. We've seen how Italy took off first, then Spain, and France third. When you have in France 10-15k tested with 4500 positive cases and 80 dead and UK has ~30k tested with 800 cases and 10 dead you can see the countries are in different stages. Spain Italy France have called lockdowns on around 100-200 dead. Whatever UK do, we're not there yet as it happens to even copy Europe, 2-4 weeks off.

After that it's about testing the people in serious condition. When you have populations of 10s of millions, 50k testing, 120k testing it doesn't equate to much and testing 500k is a huge manpower undertaking and contamination risk, waste of time for those doing the lab testing. Attention and testing needs to be on the people who come in the hospital and those who are trying treat the patients. You have to be retested and be safe to treat people. There's no point taking peoples results if they have mild symptoms now.

That's my only concern, I'm more worried about catching it and giving it to someone more vulnerable.

People are blissfully unaware of the grave situation we're all in. A part of me wished I was the same. Life would be much simpler. For what it's worth, my brother and mum are exactly the same. Not a single feck given.
 
People talking about the importance of the economic impact and at the same time downplaying the role of testing is an odd one.

The governments own models (that no one has seen but everyone is very confident in anyway because yeah..) clearly includes an assumption of building immunity. Therefore testing should be a priority to allow those confirmed as having it back into the work force quickly.

All the current situation is doing is creating unnecessary uncertainty so the masses don't know if they're safe or not.

But there is no other way to protect their most vulnerable. And the longer it takes, the more time for a collective effort to develop a vaccine / medicine that can reduce severity of the symptoms.

I agree that in UK this would have probably been impossible, without the army getting deployed.

I'm itching to go to work tomorrow to start my new job because I've been off for 2.5 months. I had some mild symptoms including a bit of a sore throat and temperate yesterday which disappeared this morning and I thought if this develops(which it has not as I feel good after 1 day) I won't be going in.

I feel like we are at that stage where this will start to grow at a crazy rate. We've done nothing to contain this. Apart from the people who have been wfh and exercised caution. I fear people in my family who don't necessarily heed any sort of rationale will take only action until we are in lockdown.

Even then I'd be surprised if people still don't listen.

It certainly has. My daughter lives in London. Today she went to her local supermarket with her 4 children. There was a massive que at 11am.
When she got inside, there were no trolleys or baskets so she put a few items in her children's hands to carry.

Within a few minutes, people had snatched the things from her children's hands ( they are 7 and 6 years old by the way).

When she confronted the people, she was verbally abused and pushed away.

I sincerely hope that those 'people' were proud of their despicable behaviour.

My colleague was pretty critical of his home nation and, in China, masks are worn to protect against pollution.
 
I see all the time people who just piss and walk out of public toilets without washing hands. No chance are they washing their hands more the filthy bastards

As I've become more Americanized this is one of the things that grosses me out the most about the UK.

I'm not convinced most UK toilets are set up well for this. No paper towels means you have to touch things like taps and doors after the washing.

A few years ago I was waiting outside the cubicles to drop a shite when some fella opened the door and walked out. He was in there pissing all over the toilet seat so I grabbed him back and made him clean it before I used it.
 
Misses is supposed to be flying to South Africa on the 19th, how likely is that to happen?

FAO microbiologists caftards, how feasible is the development of a SARS-cov2 test that works in the timeframe of minutes ? Compared to previous pathogens..
