SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Are all stoners complete feckhead conspiracy theorists? Got a couple of 'mates' who smoke a lot and both of them think this is a conspiracy.

"Strangle small business, reduce community interaction, divide people, discourage cash-handling, coerce the people and leave all the pickings for the big companies, perhaps? "

Such an edge lord :wenger:

I heard it was the American government trying to stop China from leading in the world trade and it was some kind of weapon that’s why America had so few cases..

I'd be very sceptical about China. South Korea have done great, and so have Singapore, but both of these countries benefited massively from the infrastructure they developed and the learning they could take from the SARS outbreak. This lecture is very informative. Our society could not have possibly responded the way they did.

I'm not talking about the response I'm talking about the modelling data. People keep saying the science has changed. It clearly hasn't though, we chose to listen to the interpretation of a load of numpties because we liked the sound of the outcome. Sorry, "exit strategy". fecking smartarse quick fix cowboy Tory twats.

I don't if it has been mentioned in this thread but the french army is installing a field hospital in Mulhouse, the Grand Est has been hit very hard by the virus.

So it’s been a few weeks since this man came back, he’s likely to be one of the % that doesn’t show or have any symptoms. But he would have infected his wife when he got back but it’s been a couple of weeks and until she shows symptoms? (I don’t know if she even has)

It’s so strange and scary at the same time.

Anyone know the percentage of people who catches this without ever knowing or showing symptoms ? How can you have a virus come and go without even knowing about it!?

There virsus out there that do not affect certain populases. For example Hepetitis A is a nasty (usually non serious) viral infection. Though the virus is rarer nowadays, children are completely immune to it's symptoms if they catch it.

"My daughter is a thieving bastard, goes to show how low you are, goes to show how far you'd stoop" is the gist.

You forgot "steals her ma", I feel that it was an important point.

What does China have to gain by hiding numbers at this point?

Soviet style pride and power projection.

Lying is institutional, just like in the communist USSR when Chernobyl happened; denial, cover ups, lies and propaganda - the great Chinese government must never be seen to be wrong!

We saw the way they treated the medics who tried to get the word out about Covid-19, and the leaked videos of police interrogating people for 'treason' (being critical of the state or the police on the internet).

However the easing of restrictions means that life indeed is gradually returning to normal.

Look you're obviously a believer, there's probably not much point me arguing with you but I'll make one last point. The WHO, South Korea, China, Italy etc etc had a lot of information about death rates, intensive care rates, R0 etc for this virus. All of it naturally has levels of uncertainty associated, but there was absolutely no need to make assumptions based on viral pneumonia unless they were just bluffing their way through on a wing and a prayer. They should have been ready given the advance warning they had and they still don't seem to know what they want to do about it other than react piecemeal as they get stick from different quarters. Anyway, I'm out now, feck Boris.

Except so far, the UK is reporting less cases and a lower trendline than almost all it's peer countries. You might hate Boris but in this crisis to date the UK is not doing a bad job relative to others.

More than 70,000 seasonal workers are normally required to harvest the UK’s fruit and vegetables. Domestic supplies are critical for soft fruits with around 90% of the strawberries and 60% of the raspberries we eat grown in the UK.

There is now uncertainty that overseas workers will be able to travel to the UK over the next month to take up those jobs. There is also worry among the existing overseas labour force working on farms in the UK about whether to stay or travel back home.

We urgently need a UK labour force who can help harvest crops to feed the nation. At a time when international travel is restricted and people are panic buying due to the Coronavirus, it is crucial that growers can provide enough British produce to our supermarkets and local shops,” said Sarah Boparan, operations director at the farm recruitment company HOPS Labour Solutions.
We are aware that there are many people facing sustained periods away from their usual employment or studies and HOPS can offer paid positions for those who are willing to work.

I have a feeling that many who wouldn't have done this work before the outbreak will be happy for these jobs now.

Wow Trump's conference was especially awful today. Just banging on about how great his leadership had made America's economy, and then bigging up how great he has been so far with his cutting of red tape.

People like this is why we need the PM to level with the public on the real timescales we are looking at. The Australian PM has done that. The Irish Taoiseach too. There's still a lot here who think playing football in a month is a prospect.

The UK government is about to give itself some very powerful tools to control the population. I hope it relinquishes them when the time comes.

Yes, the article says they were all healthy, but a number of those people are very overweight. I think it's become so normal in the USA that people don't even notice it or think it counts as not being healthy. Really tragic for that family.

Apparently the original article they had diabetes the press just decided to ignore this.

You might be right, just went to have a look at their website out of curiosity and:

What because we're not testing people? I think the weeks of storms we've had might have had something to do with limiting transmission more than the shambolic response.

I find it utterly shocking that Michael Owen had enough lucid thoughts of his own to put into a book the fecking moron.
