SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Anyone know what OAPs can do about getting shopping if they can’t get deliveries? Tesco cancelled the last one on my parent in-laws. They are 73 and 81 ffs
Neighbours? I dished out some flyers with my info to nearby houses saying I could help them get stuff if they have to isolate/can't get out themselves. No responses yet as a relatively young estate but might help at some point.

Has anything been sorted for the self employed yet?

People are still misinterpreting whats been said I think. Basically essential work only is now allowed. Doesn't matter if you can work from home or not.

It's going to be a nightmare for people.

Whats the chances of picking up this virus from a pizza take away? I am afraid someone infected will breathe on the pizza and then pass it on to me when i eat the pizza. Should i just cook my own food at home?

Virtually nil, there's some articles about it.

What you need to do is take the delivery wearing gloves. Take the food out of the packaging, and dispose of it. Then wash your hands and eat the food.

Not a wind up, I looked everything up before using just eat.

We are sort of in a partial lockdown. Places were empty today. Funny there was a que on mcdonalds before it closes.

Judging by what yer man Holohan was saying earlier, I suspect we've been a bit more compliant than the UK in terms of sticking to social distancing.

They said that monitoring the drop of in footfall at shops is part of what factors into their decision making, so if you're right and places are generally empty already then there's less need to immediately up measures.

Sainsbury's are apparently giving special deliveries to wrinklies, my mum got moved up from 3 weeks to two day delivery. That was today.

We're in the same boat, with my mum 73 and up in E.Yorks and a lot of her old neighbours having died or moved away in recent years.

Joined up thinking would have the local cabbies all over the country being employed by government to deliver standardised food parcels to the old ones.

Sorts the food problem for OAPs and the employment problem for self employed drivers.

I think I'm being thick here but I don't see what the new rules do that are different to the old except police officers can disperse groups of more than 2 and ask for proof of there are more than 2 they are of the same household.

It doesn't stop people taking the piss going to multiple stores in their cars. It doesn't stop people seeing their friends/families in their homes. It doesn't stop people going about all day and claiming 'exercise'.

where are people going to go if there's nothing open?

Up to now, people have been gathering in numbers, continuing social contact with people outside of their household, certainly around here anyway. I know a few people having "corona parties", which is wild. It was in my local news today that some lads have hopped the fence of the closed sports centre and are playing football on the astroturf pitches. The beer garden at the closed pub up the road from me was full on Sunday with people taking their own food and drink, as some sort of stoic act of defiance. I've not seen that pub as busy as that even in the height of summer.

Car boot sale season just started up around my way this weekend too. I saw pictures of the local one to me yesterday, it looked heaving.

Or people will just to their mates or see their family.

It all seems a bit "feck you I won't do what you tell me", and I don't see it ending until there is genuine force. I do hope I'm wrong and people begin to get a sense of the severity of this, but this is the same general public that were punching each other for toilet roll, so I'm not sure they will.

I have to move out of rented accommodation this weekend to a new place. I assume I’ll be allowed to do that..I hope taxis are still available...

Nah, government recommendation is you must stay home. Bill Boris for any extra charges.

I’m hoping that there will be some sort of emergency food drop via a support line or something

There were known cases in the UK as far back as January.

There had been a death and over 100 cases just over 2 weeks ago. Tell me the harm in bringing these measures in 2 weeks ago?

The thought process, as in Sweden (and most countries), is that it was already rampant in society 2 weeks ago, and that shutting things down to full lockdown then becomes pointless until you reach tipping point for the health services. Kicking the can down the road if you like.

Sweden still haven't shut down and we likely won't until we reach our critical point.

We make car parts but Bo Jo didn't say essential work he said work that was necessary. What does necessary mean?

I'd imagine 'essential' is currently NHS critical staff, supermarket workers, delivery workers and certain teachers.

Not 100% sure though
