People we’re idiots prior to this, during this and I’m sure they will still be after. If it brings the end of populism that would be a start.

Christ. Apparently our government asked o2 for data to get an idea of how the self-quarantine was going. I don't know if it's true and it's obviously not on that level. I'm amazed any gov has the resources and organisation to be able to pull it off to be honest, unless of course it was already in place like you infer.
But they can only really do it for groups of more than 2 unless they can prove they are 1 household.
- They won't know if I am out on my one and only bit of exercise. I could go multiple times and say it's my first (unless stopped by the same guy). I could equally go out the whole day (but still keep my distance from people by going hiking or something)
- People can still go to other people's homes if both agree. They can meet in supermarkets as well I'm sure for mini meet ups
- People can still hoard by going to multiple supermarkets/stores to buy essentials
I am not saying I do these things but if you were ignoring the old rules, then this does absolutely nothing unless you always went out with more than 2 people etc.

I'm not against the data collection. That makes sense here.
Tracking your phone live and knocking on your door if it dies I'm against though, because I can't imagine it'd stop there.
As is often the case when it comes to governments, the problem is more the potential abuse and the path you start going down. Once the doors are opened it usually leads to more being opened, not closing it once you're done.
Like a really long tunnel full of doors and they open one, push you through and you're a foot deeper in feces.
I see your point, am guessing it will keep more people at home but, with the fear of fines etc.
More unessential shops being closed too the next phase will probably be total lockdown I feel, it’s the drip feeding measures they’re taking.
Windows don't cut it and I'm on a first floor boxed in flat, so no garden (or balcony).
I've happily given up pretty much everything I love doing in my day to day life without any fuss. Playing football, going down the pub, travelling (was meant to be in Budapest right now and had a birthday trip to Alicante planned next month) mass gatherings at a weekend (be it beach, clubbing whatever), even seeing my best mate and goddaughter (which is particularly tough) so I don't think I'm asking a lot to be granted 1 hour out of 24 to get some fresh air in the countryside to mentally reset and distract myself from all this.
Unfortunately it's a moot point as people will take the piss so I imagine the Pro full house arrest crew will get their wish by this time next week at the latest.
Seems the UK is well more ahead in trying to flatten the curve than Australia. We have closed bars, restaurants and gyms but can still get take away and PT working as usual and most people working in the city.
A lot of UK residents are basically stuff over here though. UAE are not letting people transit through for over 2 weeks starting from today, Thailand you need a covid-19 negative test result and certificate to fly which is difficult to acquire especially in a short time frame, mass cancellations on flights from majority of airlines. I know friends who have paid upwards of $8,000 for a one way flight, others who have booked 3 seperate flights for them all to be cancelled, others have given their details to the embassy to be put on a list to fly home at the earliest opportunity. Quite a crazy situation really.

Fair enough if you've got a garden, but many haven't. Some families will have multiple kids in a flat ffs (and neighbours below them...).
We live in a house with a small courtyard, but our 7 year old boy would be going literally mental without a proper run out every day. Insane energy levels. He literally doesn't sleep properly when he's had a few days without solid outdoor exercise.
And before any fecking PE Teachers wade in, yeah, doing jumping jacks, squat thrusts etc is obviously better than nothing, I get that. But if dog walkers are allowed outside, then kids should be getting a run out for a time also.

Otherwise, it's not really essential. You're safer indoors.

Yeah it may have an impact on some but again, those that were happy to ignore it first time, will most likely do the same again.
Yeah non essential shops closing is good but I felt that was reactive - a lot already did. But guess he needed to make it clear for those that continued.
I do agree that this is most likely a step towards a bigger lockdown but again, I have no idea how he can enforce it. He can say you are only allowed shopping/pharmacy but people can still take the piss with that.

99% of us. The mortality rate will be around 0.5. Maybe lower. There's probably 10 times the amount of people have had it or have got it than official cases show.

Are you armchair theorizing/ballparking random figures or do you have sources?
I'm using South Korea as the best source. They have done the most testing of any country and has a mortality rate of 0.6. South Korea is probably the best example of how to manage the coronavirus.

It says their case fatality is over 1%? Which is what I remember reading as well (1.24?). Also, a big concern has always been the high percentage of people it renders to require to breath through machines. If you overrun your ICU care, which happened in Italy and seems to be starting to happen in here as well already, your fatality rate jumps through the roof. [P. S. the asymptotic proportion of those affected is estimated to be around 20%].

Running marathons is one of the last things somebody should do if they want to be considered healthy. Fit, sure. Healthy, no.
It's silly how that's used to imply somebody is inherently healthy, not to mention how it neglects every other variable in their life that an observer can't possibly account for.
