Media talk absolute shite. BBC last night determined to say "it's been suggested xxxx could happen" rather than "it's been reported that in very very unlikely circumstances, xxxx could happen".

I think this is the point that most are missing here, there are plenty of people who are actively doing the hard work that aren't being tested. If anything, to ensure that we have a big enough front line ready to tackle the volume of cases that we'll inevitably see.

Like it or not they are considered expendable where as the PM really isn't. I can imagine the decision has been taken that it's better to not know right now since we can't afford to have a load of medical professionals in 14 day isolation.

It's not idiocy. He's just announced he can continue to do his job whilst isolating. He was putting himself and others at unnecessary risk, when he could've been working from home like everyone else who can. He only required testing due to him refusing to follow his own rules.
 
The Florida beach spread shows to me that the virus must be absolutely everywhere by now. If all those people there infected just one other and you kept following those hotspots for a few days the whole map would look bright orange. Same goes for Cheltenham and sports matches while they were still being played.

It’s hard to get my head around as it seems the virus is so contagious and easy to catch most of Britain should have caught it in within days of it being here.

If it stayed on hand rails, cash machines, taxi/rail handles a for few days after being touched by infectious person it would surely spread like wild fire, a lot faster than we have seen

Thanks, this is was more what I'm getting at. He runs a very important job and I understand the need for testing but I don't understand how he would put others at risk any more, or even close to as much as, anyone working a hospital.

If symptoms were mild and he was working remotely I was unsure why he can't take the advice he gives and self isolate and work remotely where possible, handing over duties if necessary saying he has symptoms. But fair fecks he runs the country, I guess that makes his life more important.

This has nothing to do with the question whether the PM should be tested or not, though. He is the most imporant person in the country and has to get preferred treatment.

This isn't a point about the Prime Minister and his role due to his expendability (for a different thread/discussion, but essentially he's a mouthpiece). It's the principle of solving this head on, and the most successful countries have done it in two stages - testing, and contact tracing. The latter comes once we've got the first resolved, but forgive me when i don't have sympathy for a two tier testing system that we currently have in place, which is basically down to money/accessibility or whether you have severe symptoms of the virus.
 
Another good news story of tough oldies in Italy - Italian papers reporting that a man aged 101 has been discharged from hospital in Rimini, having recovered from the virus.

Some can be recovered a while back of course.

I can see a small amount having it earlier than thought, some recovered and some deaths just weren't suspected but we would've seen a large uptick in the deaths in UK per day/week and elsewhere, we can see Italy is a 3-4 weeks ahead and the real outbreak in Europe/UK is pretty much how we see it.

Which is why they'll all be routinely tested to reduce the risk of taking down everyone at once.

The posts saying Boris needs testing because he's too important are just as ridiculous as those saying he doesn't.

Also, people might hate the royal family but do they honestly think that the future king of this country is not going to get tested when he has corona virus symptoms?

Find that interesting. They say anonymised but if you can identify someone through trends in the anonymised data alongside other data sets then it isn't under EU law.

I wonder how specific they can track these.
