We’re already through the flu season in the Nothern Hemisphere. In Ireland, the flu vaccine will be free for all kids before the next season. So that will hopefully put a dent in our perennial flu epidemic.
Examples of putting Covid down on death certs is a staggeringly simple example of the American healthcare system and the stupidity of all involved.
Set it up for-profit, then complain about people possibly gaming the system and making money from it.

I think most people are seeing close relatives now if they live reasonably local (less than 260 miles!). Especially now after Boris said Cummings was fine. They won’t be publicising it on here of course.
Yep. Both sets of grandparents to our kids have asked us too go and visit on the end of their driveway.
I'd be interested to see a thread poll on this as i don't think its anywhere close to a majority.
My close circle of friends are all still following the guidance so it's only really my chavy neighbours on one side that I'm aware of breaking it so far.
This kind of thinking is creeping back into conversation. Surely its only indicative of there being less virus in the populations, awareness being high, and social distancing having an effect.

Went shopping yesterday on Monday bad idea. but there was a crowd of people just standing around certainly not social distancing, looked like people waiting for a coach.
Inside, social distancing was impossible.
Then while getting served the cashiers relief came and supervisor all in the little area where he serves chatting away.
Don't think he had much choice in the matter as he was busy serving us but then thats where the rules fall flat on its arse.

Poor, crowded living conditions. Only 38% have bank accounts, so aid has to be distributed at crowded banks. Only about half have refrigerators, so markets are constantly crowded. Their economy does not allow for working from home for most.
It is all just irreconcilable with social distancing.

Why not everyone else is doing it, including them in charge. I've been stuck in for nearly 12 weeks now I'm fed up with it. I obviously haven't got the virus. I would of had it by now. The kids can't take much more either. I'm not being told what to do anymore.
Congregations of up to 200 in open public areas will now be allowed from Monday onwards, in Slovenia. Fitness and wellness centres, pools and larger hotels will also be allowed to re-open . Night clubs remain closed.
We've had 2 new confirmed cases today and 2 yesterday. Before that we haven't had more than one a day for a week.
E: Apparently masks are now just recommended rather than required to wear in closed off areas. And some fans might be allowed (I assume up to 200) in the stands for football matches at some point in June.

According to my friend in Spain he saw on the news the research from Italy. They’ve been testing the virus in the lab over the past few months and where it previously attacked cells in 2-3 days and destroyed them fully now it appears that after 5 days they have only just started to destroy them. This would suggest the virus is weakening. I won't hold my breath on the UK press reporting this though.
most of the UK press is desperate for lockdown to end so they can sell papers wtf are you on about, these are the same cnuts who went wild with "50% infected" from shitty projections when almost a thousand people were dying every day

Does anyone have a feel for why Peru is quite so high on the chart? I got the impression that they locked down fairly early and that it was quite a tough lockdown.
How does the US just have ~65k excess deaths and a reported 100K+ covid deaths.. ? what am I missing ?
I guess it's why Peru is seemingly worse off than its neighbours that puzzles me really. I can see the social issues having that kind of impact, but is Peru really more exposed there than other countries in the region? The other factor that occurred to me was the question of contacts from Spain at the height of their epidemic - but again I don't know if I'd expect the pattern to be that different to their neighbours.
I could see them being more open reporting current numbers than Ecuador, Venezuela, or Brazil (don’t know much about Bolivia). Also another poster mentioned above that there’s a dengue fever outbreak so maybe it’s more intense there than their neighbors.

Excess deaths just means death in excess of the usual deaths for this time of year. Many countries (e.g. Ireland) have zero excess deaths, despite thousands of covid deaths. This is because the social distancing for covid reduces other infectious diseases and taking cars off the road and people out of pubs also helps keep them alive.
It’s also likely that some of the very frail, elderly people who die from covid might have died anyway, of whatever other infectious disease would end up finishing them off.
Have people in the UK not been allowed to see anyone at all through this lockdown?
Here in Denmark we've always been allowed to see people outside with 2 metres between and taking the necessary precautions like not touching the same stuff etc. When my partner and I were quarantining in a summer house our respective families would visit us in the garden and bringing their own tea and coffee etc.

Excess death stats lag behind 2-6 weeks depending on how countries release data. 65k for US is probably from around end of april.
I have been this month and know a lot who have done from a safe distance locally from early on but some physical contact would be nice too.
There is definitely less demand for bars and restaurants here even after they reopened. I'd not say people are super cautious but all corporations are working from home for the foreseeable future so it does have a very significant impact on reducing interactions.
Personally I've actually slightly enjoyed this time. It's been great to slow down a bit (though work has been super tense) and realize there are so many things that I've been spending money on and doing before that I didn't really need Also professionally I feel that I have developed more than I had for the previous 2 years, partly due to work from home (which I wasn't completely capable of before and treated those days as a more relaxing experience, while now I'm doing significantly more work done from home than I had in the office) and within my skills scope (haven't had to do so many outcome scenarios in my career). It also made me realize how many idiots I know and helped me clean up my Facebook friends list and remove many contracts from my iPhone.
Seems we are at the same stage, though we have 350-400 cases per day.

Already said you don't have to send kids back if you don't want to. Not exactly everyone going back to work, retail and hospitality is a huge portion of jobs, so still likely a lot of staff furloughed and working from home.
In principle, gardens as meeting places for different households were still against the rules until today. In England we've been in an odd phase where an individual was allowed to meet one vother person but only at a 2m distance and in a public place (like a park).
In practice, I think some people were meeting family for short periods in the garden, or on a driveway or similar for a while now.
Once the "meet one person in the park" idea came out, a lot of the rules got more loosely interpreted - bigger groups meeting up for a chat or a sunbathe. The 1+1+1+1+ etc daisy chain effect. I think increasingly the "only meet in a public place, not in your garden" bit of guidance irritated people, and I suspect people were starting to ignore that rule as well now.
The latest "6 people outdoors" might work better. At least they might be able to explain this one, rather than trying to justify why you could meet a stranger in the park but not your mum in her garden.
What's going on at the beaches then?
Groups of same households sitting together keeping social distancing with other households.
The measure of gardens might stop as many people meeting in public places now so ease the amount of people on beaches and in parks.
