Voting with trump 94, 88 and 67% of the time isn't "on the trump train"??
So because they recoil at him personally, yet wave through all his legislation, that's what makes them "traditional centrist republicans"??
Voting with or against Trump doesn't make them any more or less centrist. They are simply doing what they need to, to survive while he's in office.
That gives absolute immunity to their ideological position. Yeah they continually vote in favour of highly ideological legislation, but really, deep down, i believe they are a centrist republican that has to hide their centrism.
What is a centrist republican if you can't measure it even with the most basic of guides like voting intentions? What makes McSally a "centrist republican" and John Cornyn a Right wing republican? Doesn't there have to be something that defines the term?
Trump himself isn't a right wing Republican, so you can't measure other Republicans against his policies. This is a guy who over time has given more money to Bill & Hillary Clinton, Chuck Shumer, and other lib Dems than most actual Dems.
So Trump never needed to pivot. He came into office already pivoted.
"Right wing republican" is descriptor couched in terms of ideology and the political ideology of that is expressed as legislation. Whether that is legislation sought by "right wing republican" on it's legislators (yet they remain outside the process) or undertaken by said legislators because of their ideology. Legislation sought and passed by trump and his party is well within the descriptor of right wing republican.
But again, unless we are going to define the term centrist republican in some concrete foundation i guess it's all just back and forth.
He made the Republiicans pivot towards him. Brilliant move if you can do it.
And since he was already a big Dem donor, the US is ruled by a 1-party Pelosi/Schumer state. No wonder he keeps complaining about COUPS and DEEP STATE.

Her card was marked the moment she voted in favour of Kavanaugh. If I remember rightly there was obscene amounts of money donated to her rivals in Maine pretty much immediately after her vote.

In the 2000s he started the most racist campaign against a President in the last 100 years, courted far right-wing populism with birtherism knowing it would endear him to the far right wing
And now in the 2010s he encourages supporters to believe:

Yet you don't think he is a right-wing Republican because in the 1990s he gave some money to center-right Democrats (who instituted tough on crime and anti-welfare policies that Reagan would be proud of) because they were in power and he was desperate for government assistance with his bankrupt and failing businesses?
Trump is a far right populist. What he is not, is a Rockefeller Republican institutionalist but he is absolutely right wing and always has been.

Shows you how hard it can be for a dem to go live these days. That interview was something like 20 minutes long and Biden was pretty solid for all of it, then as they were disconnecting went off the cuff with that statement and now that's the story. A week later.
Trump would have said 25 more controversial things during his opening monologue and wed have moved on by lunchtime. Hell Trump could directly invoke the Miami police chief of 67 calling for blacks to be shot during protests and wed still have the real thinkers diving deep into Bidens gaff.
It’s a bit surreal that the country is literally turning itself upside down, and president presiding over this debacle still has a really solid chance of winning a second term.
