Entirely a reasonable position for him to take. He's a bit part player for Chelsea at this point and it makes zero sense for him to risk perhaps his last significant payday given the stage his career is in.
Obviously never hit the heights at Chelsea as he did at Barca but will be remembered fondly - always worked incredibly hard, extremely likable & mature personality, and a vital contributor in the 16/17 title. Frustrating at times with his decision making & propensity to dribble in our own half and his time is clearly up at Chelsea, but I don't think anyone will hold this manner of exit against him.
