SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

I just cannot believe the number of deaths in China compared to other countries. How on earth can it kill over 150k in the USA and only 4K in China where it must have been transmitted for months before the virus was identified.

The difference is strict lockdown measures. Trump has largely ignored the virus up until the last few weeks.

Yeah the did a harsh lockdown but an unknown new virus circulating around a population of 1.4billion for months just doesn’t add up to me.

China is a big country, but they managed to contain the outbreak to Hubei through a strict 76 day lockdown and enforced a travel ban in Wuhan. The data provided shows that 97% of deaths and 82% of cases was contained within Hubei. With the lockdown, it bought other regions of China time to get their own measures in place. They also have previous experience in dealing with pandemics. The way to deal with these is largely isolation or vaccine.

Compare that to the USA, and it's clear why the reported numbers are so vastly different.

Yeah maybe you are right but Wuhan isn't some small hamlet in the middle of the sticks, it has a population of 10 million. With a new virus circulating around there for god knows how long it just seems to me the Chinese are fudging their numbers. They seemed to stop it moving to other parts of China but fecked every other country.

I don't disagree in that there is some issues in their reporting figures overall, but the trends in their death & case rate are very different to the USA (The USA's is different to everyone which should give you some indication). The measures they took to control it are very stark to that of the USA, and easy to see why the figures are different.

I would take it with a pinch of salt (we've seen how the Boris has cooked the numbers here), however I don't think their death rate is as bad as USAs or even the UK's for that matter just on the basis of the action they took.

id agree with that but in general I think the stats and numbers we have seen are just logical estimates.
 
Read an article a few months back ( think it was on the beeb) on the Hubei Lockdown ending and the chinese death figures, they locked down a region with 58.5 million people. Taking to locals who didn't want to be named who estimated the figures in Wuhan alone was more likely to be in the 10s of thousands. All the crematoria in the region were working non stop through out the lock down 24 hours a day with a back log and people trying to get the ashes of their family members. The whole region they believed was more likely to be in the 40k range and they were only counting figures from specific hospitals and not anyone found dead or doa so no one will ever know the true figure.
 
Not a chance in hell that those China figures are even remotely close to the truth.
As the poster above says, even if they somehow did manage to keep it in Wuhan, yet somehow let it out to the rest of the World (bullshit), those Wuhan figures alone are surely in the tens of thousands.

Not a snowballs chance in hell.

They're not gonna be as bad per capita as Europe or the US, but you can easily times their reported figures by 10-20 times before you'd even start approaching the true numbers.
 
In AU news Victoria has dipped under 500 new daily infections today and the 7 day average continues to decline but far from confident that we are over the peak - the hard yards are left to do IMO. With stage 4 lock-down I'd hope those numbers will way down in 1/2 weeks time.

It also emerged that the person who originally approached the government about the deal was a government trade adviser who also advises the board of Ayanda.

But he told the BBC his position played no part in the awarding of the contract.

This should be the headline story in all the papers. Absolutely shocking. An advisor to Liz Truss apparently getting a contract worth over £200m for a company with absolutely no background or filings. And then all the product delivered not being able to be used. Utterly shameful and corrupt.

Unbelievable. Public service procurement has always been f*cked and heavily influenced by politicians, and this pandemic has only highlighted further the need for reform.

Furthermore Imperial London are randomly inviting people to test to get a rough idea on local numbers.

Aye, more testing = more positives, but a lower %age of positives in those tested than before.

I just came here to post that. There's only so much that can be pinned on pandemic panic or sheer incompetence. That's pure misappropriation of funds and people should go down for it.
 
Another scandalous waste of public money. 50 million face masks procured for the NHS which now cannot be used due to safety concerns because they are ear instead of head attached.

Just another £150/175 million pounds wasted.
Fortunately they have their own magic money tree.

They will continue to be corrupt and funnel taxes to their mates in the guise of public expenditure and nobody will hold them to account because the media, by and large, are part of the same cesspit.

How anybody working class could look at them and think for one second that they might act in their best interests will never cease to baffle me.

They've been convinved by the old proverb that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". The common enemy in this instance being immigrants, benefits scroungers and other leftie abberations. Of course the sad reality is they couldn't give a toss about any of that because it registers barely a ripple in the water to them.

Have we seen the last of this now ? Is it all over? The house next door to me is a holiday home and there is 10 people in it from 3 households (Canvey Island , Birmingham and Sheffield) , I was chatting over the fence yesterday .
There is a retired couple just moved into the house the other side of me , ex military , been there just over a week now and had a constant stream of visitors in the house .
My family are still social distancing and don`t have anyone in the house . When I visit my in laws we do it outside as they are in their 80`s with other ongoing illnesses . Are we wasting our time as no one else seems to be bothering and everything seems ok . When I go in a shop very few people are wearing masks and don`t seem to care. I honestly don`t know what to think anymore.

Other people in 'selfish dicks' shocker.

For the record, I feel the same. Nobody has been allowed in my home since March. Seems very few people around here is doing the same and somehow numbers are creeping up. Who'd have thought actions have consequences?
