Internationals September (Nations League + Friendlies)

I like Gibraltar's stadium. You can watch football and do close-up planespotting at the same time.

Didn't know so many people had interest in San Marino vs Gibraltar. More people on CAF than in those countries almost ;). True minnows.
I wonder if a CAF side would beat them?

San Marino, maybe. They have one win in thirty years of qualifiers/friendlies. If these two were league teams, though, Gibraltar would be several levels above. They have already won four games in six years, including away to Mkhitaryan's Armenia. I'd say Gibraltar is probably a decent non-league side.

Urgh pickford again and overall a weird and underwhelming team selection from southgate

How the feck does Pickford continue to get picked as the number 1 keeper for England?

I forgot to cancel after my trial for FuBoTV which on the bright side means I get to watch a lot of these matches. Unfortunately a lot of them are on TuDN and I don’t understand the Spanish commentary... yet. It would be nice if there were at least English subtitles.

Given the current squad the only questionable pick I'd say is Pickford but
hopefully he starts Pope or Henderson in the other match. Ward-Prowse is a bit random but the midfield options are fairly limited, so I see the logic.

Unpopular opinion but I think Ward Prowse is underrated, he’s a good player. If TAA is injured then I understand him not being in the team but if not then that’s a weird one for me.

Do not underestimate Iceland. They are more than capable to push for a win.
We're missing 5 starters and are starting 2 players that are playing in Iceland. Also our formation is bizarre. 4-5-1 with 4 central defenders, diamond midfield and left winger.

England are playing 4-4-3 with Trippier left back, Rice as DMC. Sterling and Sancho on wings.

Decent enough team for Iceland. I'd have probably have gone with Maitland-Niles at left-back as he has experience playing there. Would have also Mount or Grealish in place of Ward-Prowse, but it'll be interesting to see how he gets on. He's had a good season for Soton and he obviously deserves his call up. The fact that we're playing with a three should allow him to drift wide and use his great crossing ability to pick out the front men.

Not sure I get that. Left winger and no right one? No striker?

There's a striker but no right winger. Weird 4-5-1. Expect the full backs to be very defensive.

So it is basically park the bus and attack down the left? Strange since the right side in England is the stronger side.

Surprised that Foden is only just making his international debut.. feels like he's been in and around the England squad for ages

I wouldn't expect much attacking. I'm guessing he's out left rather than a second striker because Kyle Walker tends to be caught out of position. We got pace available on the left and the player playing left back can kick a mean long ball but we got no pace available on the right and also no right back.

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson our striker injured during warmup. Albert Guðmundsson starts instead

Anyone else find Southgate’s team selections continually underwhelming? Seeing 2 holding midfielders against Iceland is just disappointing. Pickford again? Dier? Urgh.
