Added to that, it's not even like people are just claiming the police are doing these things, but it's always recorded on camera, and still they face no consequences and continue to act as they do, all while the taxpayers have to pay for whatever costs come up along the way.

Thought disbanding the police was a ludicrous idea but can't see any other way. It's like the America doesn't even know the primary purpose of a police force.
Keep in mind that if you want to lower police budgets you're a Marxist.
If police were treating right-wing protesters this way, somebody would've snapped and fired an AR-15 into a crowd of police. I'm surprised that this hasn't happened yet in the face of this sort of violence from supposed 'law enforcement' officers.

She is not being handcuffed for not wearing a mask. If she would have either put on her mask or left, she would have been fine. She is being handcuffed for not responding to orders and being a nutter.
Only that crime has absolutely spiked in the areas where the police has been unable to operate.

Defunding the police doesn’t mean disband the police entirely.
There has been a trial in one US city where they sent trained people to respond to calls related to mental health with the option of police backup. They haven’t needed the cops once and safely brought in the individuals.

The point is you can train officers differently (to de-escalate) or you can use an alternative response. We have mountain rescue and coast guards for specialist response so why not mental health response teams.
Given the way we are going with a corrupt government who would love nothing more than to ban anything that doesn't agree with their world view or prevents them from creaming off their share I'd not say that we are any better
The guy I was responding to was not about defunding the police but disbanding the police.
Sending unarmed mental health response teams (or social worker, whatever) is absolutely fine... until it isn’t. Once someone gets hurt or god forbid killed you can bet the finger pointing, blaming, and lawsuits will surface. And the policies and practices will be re-examined again.
Having a dedicated team that partners with a clinician like my department has with the county dept of mental health is imo the most effective way to respond. But even with us, they work your typical bank hours. Not available at nighttime, graveyard hours. Not on weekends. And not many mental health professionals want to be out in the field with police and putting themselves in physical danger anyway. But to be truly effective every city/department should have a dedicated response team with a mental health clinician and police available 24/7.

Scary video from Chicago. Guy was clearly high and/or mentally ill. So many takeaways but most importantly it highlights how ineffective less-lethal options are. When you’re that close to a man with a knife, you should be thinking lethal not taser. And it also shows how getting shot multiple times doesn’t mean a suspect will stop or fly back like in movies. So the number of shots fired in police shootings isn’t always a factor like media headlines will claim. Not that there can’t be excessive shots or force, but each incident needs to be examined/judged on its own merits. This female sergeant was very very lucky.
That’s a scary video for the female cop but I still don’t understand why a cop in that situation shoots what 8-10 times? He could easily have hit his partner and was lucky not to. If that happened in the UK the officer would have tackled the guy or used his baton. Alternatively, they could have kept their distance until additional cops were on the scene and tackled him together. He wasn’t an imminent threat until they got too close after the tasering.
He tried to fire earlier but his gun had some kind of malfunction/jam, but luckily he cleared it. And his partner was available to shoot too. They continued shooting because the suspect was still stabbing at the female.
Personally I think the takeaway is when you don't stick to the 21 foot rule you're going to get in trouble, but I'm sure there are tactical learnings to be had from every encounter.
I think it's realtively well known that certain people (usually the mentall ill or high as feck) are able to overcome the effects of the taser easily. Glad that the female officer is ok. He clearly picked her as the weakest of the group (probably more tactical learnings there as well).
Recent attack on a 30+ year veteran officer working the station front desk. Very lucky he didn’t get shot to death. I’m guessing since he’s older he probably carries a baretta and the suspect didn’t know to decock the safety, so instead pistolwhipped him.
Police in the US is just a reflection of the failed democracy that is the US.
Their police are trained to deliberately escalate situations. This is a deliberate act. They also have ZERO accountability for any crimes they commit. Most DA do not press charges and the few that do, get threatened with police boycotts which eventually leads to the officer getting away with it. Police training is also frequently only a few months. I've heard of 3 month trainings, even. That is absurd. This leads to many psychopaths being attracted to the position as it has all the hallmarks. Power, prestige and zero accountability.
I've seen videos where the the guy is on his knees begging not to be killed, hands in the air and the officer is screaming at the guy as if the officer was being threatened. Giving the guy contradicting orders and threatening to kill him. When the guy is confused, he gets shot to death. No charges. And lifetime police pension for the prick because "he has PTSD".
The racism is very obvious. With huge differences in how they deal with black people compared to white people. That Kyle Rittenhouse case is a golden example.
The police are also overly militarized with many having receiving ridiculous amounts of military firepower and equipment. And trigger happy pretenders hoping to be able to use their new toys. Not being trained to use such weapons and equipment in the first place.
They seriously need a police reform. Police training needs to be extended to a few years of training. Training must emphasize on de-escalation. Not escalation. No more war tactics on civilians. Police must be held accountable for any potential crimes committed. Investigations performed by a 3rd party answerable to state legislature. All investigations made public and police body cams released publicly on a daily basis as protocol. They need to demilitarize the police force with a total banning of military firepower being obtained from military surplus programs. No more assault rifles. No more tanks. The culture needs to be changed. Police chiefs must be removed if they resist any of these reforms. Culture in an organisation is always top down.
