Westminster Politics

They hand billions of taxpayer's poubds to companies that donate campaign money to them, and use dirty tactics against their opponents, and THIS is the best thing they could come up with for an ad? It's mental.
It's absolutely embarrassing. Literally pathetic.

There is something fundamentally wrong with a government who is perfectly happy with and boasts about spending some £400m + of public money on the much vaunted Eat Out To Help (the spread of covid) Out, and yet is finding numerous reasons why they should not spend a tiny fraction on extending the free school meals for children.
I mean. Where is the logic?

One of the weird things about the current crisis is Sunak is probably one of the key reasons for the lack of financial support for the north, encouraging people to go back to work in September, the removal of furlough support, the lack of funds to feed children, etc

And yet is somehow continuing to stay incredibly popular.

(Oh, and all these dodgy contracts. It's treasury money at the end of the day)

Yeah all very true i just don't think many see him as the one making many of those decisions given the last one had to stand down due to interference. The cabinet are just pawns in this government.

He has done well to avoid the cameras at times of negativity and engage with it for the good stuff.

It's an obvious tactical direction and the trans-Atlantic gestalt right have been manoeuvring this way for quite a while. The Nazis are left, the left are the antisemites, the left are intolerant and unreasonable, Antifa are a violent revolutionary force, the left are the real racists.
It'll also, to an extent, work. It already is.
Expect editorials in their press on the racist left soon enough.
This is true except I think it goes beyond right wing insurgency. The UK is realigning itself along US lines and you'll see the media being all too happy to play the role of an imagined monolithic "left".

Hope Rishi is able to overcome such a devastating attack.

I did say some time ago when Rishi was being lauded for spraying money around like there was no tomorrow that it was easy to chuck money around in a national emergency.
He should be judged on his handling of the economy when things stabilise.
Particularly after Brexit has damaged a weakened economy.

Are you ready for the stories about Boris pressuring this to be dropped?
I'm looking forward to the front page of the BBC News site.

Funny because it is close to the bone.

Not really been commenting on domestic politics for a while. Just want to say that it's incredible how incompetent this government is. Can't even declare a lockdown properly.

My money is on either PM/Hancock/Sunak/Gove

Ridiculous pantomime we all know who has leaked it. They're just pretending otherwise because they're supposed to take it to parliament first and got bollocked last time they did this.

He must be low on cash out to rip some more people off.

For goodness sake does he know how dangerous what he is about to do will be? Brilliant let’s spread more mis information about how lockdown doesn’t work so even less people stay a part.

Am I right in saying that herd immunity isn’t really a thing without a vaccine?

.

Anti lockdown brexiters! FFS.

These guys just tap into right wing populism and divisive issues. Then drive a big wedge right through the population.
Yep! It’s so dangerous and it’s a big part of the reason we are where we are.

They were planning a new party a year ago, just needed something to campaign on. Absolute scumbags, dangerous scumbags.

Farage is just a vehicle for rich Conservative benefactors to apply pressure on the Conservative party. Single issue on an issue that will not even be an issue by the next election?

Good breakdown thread here -

recreating that coalition looks like it will be tough then.
the medium-term impact of brexit was hastening the generational/northern shift to the tories, but i don't see it happening here.
