Selling Lukaku...

I keep watching that to try and figure out how he manages to make the ball accelerate away from him when he's trying to bring it under control.

He's one of the most limited footballers i've ever seen.
Looks he hits it as he moves his foot forward before pulling it back. He has the worst coordination I’ve ever seen in a professional footballer. Same reason he trips over the ball and wildly swings at it sometimes.

Lukaku might have been a good fit under Mourinho (though it all went tits up across the board) but just gave up at a certain point. If he’s happy at Inter, that’s great. But there is no doubt in my mind that getting rid of him was the right move.

However, we’re still desperate need of a successor to RvP. Martial is not that man.

Looking at the league positions it is not going great for either us or Inter this season.

Lukaku and Bruno have started fairly well though in terms of the numbers. So it might be more the rest of the squad/staff that is the problem?
Or simply just a bad start with some bad luck?

Wasn't a fan of Lukaku and was happy we sold him and gave Martial a chance to be our No.9. Objectively speaking though, Lukaku would rank higher than Martial in a top 50/100 players list.

Could Martial do what Lukaku has done at Inter? I very much doubt that.

Yeah I know that.

I'm not blaming Martial for being here. Neither am I saying that Solskjaer should have kept a player that didn't want to be here.

I'm just saying that I prefer Lukaku to Martial, think that Lukaku would have had a bigger impact on this young team and would have liked it if things could have turned out differently, which obviously they couldn't.

Me too. Could try different game plan with Lukaku but Martial is always 1 dimensional.

I liked Lukaku but he didn't develop as I expected an those who predicted he would regress technically with age due to his physical development proved to be correct. He could not maintain his technical ability at this club as he struggled to keep his body perfectly balanced for football. He is still a very good player, but a different type of striker from what we thought he could become a couple of years before he joined us. Looked complete for a season when he was younger.

If Ashley Young can do it in the Italian League, Martial will tear it up, becomes one of the biggest stars in Italy.

People forget how difficult it is to be playing for Manchester United and the expectations that comes with it. We quickly dismiss our own players just because we're not winning trophies.

Martial is 2 times more talented than Lukaku, despite Lukaku's record.

I suspect We used Lukaku’s fee to buy Maguire that’s why it took so long and we waited till January to get Bruno

And before that season Martial scored ten premiership goals, before that nine and this season?? One.
And before that season Rashford scored ten premiership goals, before that seven, and this season? Two.

And I don't care who he scored against, does scoring against Bournemouth, Brighton etc not count anymore then? Because of so you can scrap some of Martials goal tally too!

Seriously, how anyone can argue that Lukaku is a poor goalscorer is beyond me, he is a goalscorer through and through, we're better off without him here as he did t want to be at the club, but don't question his record as it's brilliant.
I agree Lukaku wasn’t suited for us and we are better off without him in the first 11 but as you say I also agree Lukaku is one of the best finishers in the world, period.

The guy is a goal machine. I’m happy for him at Inter. He’s been an absolute beast for them. Top player.

Martial is a better footballer then Lukaku but not as good a finisher. Comes down to what you want I guess. Neither have great movement and I thought Cavani was an upgrade on both in that respect when he came on yesterday, we immediately looked livelier. I’d start him fo a few games.

Cavani is a proper striker, makes the runs constantly, looking for the near post runs, definitely a step up from what we have in that regards.

He is scoring goals for fun being back from injury.

Now he needs to save them in CL. With no Ramos for Real and maybe no Casemiro it should be a prime chance for him to score and win them the game.

Looks like a curious decision in hindsight. I remember how folks were going on about his technical limitations affecting our play but its not like Ole had grand plans for our football. I suspect some man management could have gone some way in keeping the big guy around.

No, it doesn't.

Curious timing.

Yes I’m sitting here watching Cavani while pining for the Lukaku era.

In general I’m very happy we got rid of Lukaku. Haven’t missed him at all, maybe except from the last month, because Greenwood, Rashford and Martial have underperformed heavily.

Best for both parties. Both teams sitting 2nd and doing well.

Lukaku was a bad egg in the dressing room, that is why he was sold.

Don’t miss the big lump at all. I care neither way how well he does at Inter either. I was just happy that United got their money back for him. Hopefully we’ll replace him this summer. Cavani is great but the wrong age.

Lukaku had an aura of toxicity about him. Coming out in the press and saying things like 'You're a grown-ass man, deal with it' after Mourinho was burning the house down was a testament to the sort of character he is. Cavani will definitely get fewer goals (he's way older so his game time needs to be properly managed being the primary reason) but his first touch, ability to lead from the front with his pressing, and his apparent mentorship of younger players is such a breath of fresh air. Also, the timing of this bump is fecking hilarious.

He was a very insecure player, leaking speed stats just to prove he's not slow when everyone was actually concerned about his first touch, workrate, and overall finesse. He was performing for himself, not for the team. I'm not a massive Martial fan but I don't think he would have performed better than him last season, maybe this season, yeah. But it's for the better he's gone.

What have we gained with his departure that makes it a "good decision"?
Top scorers in the league for a start.

People can keep saying this until they're blue in the face but it still won't make it true, whether you like his plan or not is up to you but he very clearly has an idea of how he wants to play and Lukaku would stick out like a sore thumb in this team.

Can't believe some people still think this clown should have been kept.

It's possible for a player to be sold and as a result everyone is happier. Lukaku wanted to go and became an obnoxious prick. The fact that he's doing well for Inter right now is irrelevant to his Utd career

He Shouldn’t have been kept at all but we need a younger physical striker to build the next few seasons around. Cavani is great as a squad player but the wrong age to be thinking beyond the end of this season and maybe next and he’s done. We should have replaced lukaku with Haaland while we had the chance. I like Martinez at Inter if the glazers are prepared to keep spending

Glad he's gone. Was a self absorbed twat. Remember a bust up between him and Ashley Williams at Everton also. Williams was having a go at him for not trying hard enough and Lukaku couldn't have give 2 fecks.

Spent the money on improving the defence (whether you think its value well spent is a different question but has definitely improved that area)
Also made room for Greenwood in the squad and allowed Rashford and Martial to grow, all of whom are better players that Lukaku
