personally I loved the ending. Even at that last fight I was feeling like telling Ellie to stop because all this bloodshed isn't worth it. Both sides lost a lot and both sides took their hit to kill each other and didnt. It wasnt a generic ending and tried something different, I really liked.

Not sure many would agree the first half is a slog. I think most see it the other way round - the 2nd half is where the problems lie. It’s personal preference I suppose and at least you enjoyed it. For me, it was a mixed bag. Some glorious moments mixed with some muddled story telling and ultimately a character I cared absolutely nothing for. Interestingly, I think this could be better on replay depending on direction of a potential Part 3.
To be fair, I never really thought that the original Last Of Us (one of my favorite games of all time) needed a sequel, at least not one containing Joel and Ellie. I thought that was a great contained story. Slog was probably harsh because I did enjoy it, however i think Ellie just grated on me a bit as I found her annoying and I 'm not sure if felt fresh enough to keep it interesting. When the switch to Abby first happened, I was thoroughly unimpressed but she grew on me as it went on and overall I thought had a much better story arc and better gameplay segments. All of the flashback segments for both characters were great though.
Part one became a slog when to me it felt like I had done the same thing over and over for a few hours. It was stealth, kill the Seraphites, stealth, kill, stealth, kill. It seemed to never end.
Part two I haven’t yet finished because, I just feel nothing for the story or the character. I don’t think I’ll finish it before Christmas because I have no urge to play. However there are some nice moments and I should keep playing but I lack motivation to play

There were leaks before the game came out that were pieced together to construe the game mostly being about a transgender woman fighting against Ellie and Joel, who were now the main enemies, and a Christian cult. Or...something like that.
So gamer-gate types then went on a crusade to save the world from the SJWs. Or...something like that.
I’ve been playing this for the past two days, and I’m enjoying it. Maybe not as much as the first, but it’s still pretty good.
I think I’ve been living under a rock recently, but apparently this game’s received a lot of backlash for some reason? Can anyone fill me in? Is this some sort of Mass Effect 3 ending type of backlash cause that would be pretty disappointing tbh.

Yeah I read about this and im still confused too. I did see something about Abby looking strong or muscly? But that might just be one part.
I didn't follow it but I assume people thought she was transgender, even though she wasn't. There was also the
SCARS wanting to kill Lev because she identified as female, maybe that had something to do with it?
Either way it was fecking dumb, everything fitted perfectly fine into the story. My main complaint is that the game was a good 10 hours too long. There was far too many gameplay segments in between the story and it got really frustrating at times cause it became a case of "oh for feck sake not another area with a load of guys to stealth/kill".
Still a really good game but I don't the story matched up to the first game and I also don't think the combat evolved enough from the first game. An 8/10 I think.
Havent finished it yet, but I get what you mean with regards to the stealth kills.

Sneak around, knife someone, get caught, run away, stand at a choke point and take out every witless enemy as they come to investigate the ever growing pile of corpses. The bells and whistles added to AI tricked a lot of people IMO, but it was a showcase of terrible AI.
Story wise, meh. It was a story that didn't need telling and a sequel that didn't need making. Admittedly I may feel differently about this if I actually finished the game but no aspects of the 10 or so hours I put into it suggest the plot was going to evolve beyond a standard revenge story.

The game has plenty moments of levity.
In terms of gameplay and how to tackle combat encounters, it's the best third person stealth/action game since MGSV.
It did but a lot of legit criticisms got washed away because everyone who disliked the game got tarred with the same brush as those idiots. I've got tons of legit criticisms which got swatted away by "You don't like Abby". Abby was probably the only decent character in the 1st half of the game after Manny (and she was a fecking horrible person), slowly murdered Joel for revenge, screwed her best friend whilst knowing his partner was pregnant etc... she was handled badly so ND could drive home
the shock of Joel's death.
The big issue for me on replaying is that it takes pure stupidity to drive the plot forward, pure stupidity by just about every character. It's walking dead level writing.
- Mel tagged along across a zombified country on a revenge mission whilst pregnant.
- Tommy behaves like an idiot twice telling a stranger and a group of armed strangers poking round their town who they are.
- Joel joins in.
- Ellie has a clear shot at Abby while she's golfing and doesn't take it.
- Abby and Owen let Ellie live (because no one would travel all the way across the country for revenge...)
- Tommy is like "No revenge" than goes for revenge himself, gets shot in the head and magically survives thanks to plot armor. Then he gives out to Ellie for not wanting revenge.
- Ellie in the hospital "Tell me where Abby is and I'll let you live" Other girl does a stupid and refuses than you are forced to watch through her eyes as you kill her. A decision taken out of your hands and pure guilt triping.
- Guilt tripping is not good writing but we're getting it again with Abby's dog.
- Owen and Mel in the swimming pool. talk about a stupid death.
- Not closing the window in the theater.
Lots of games have worse writing but TloU is sadly not lots of games and for me TloU2 was like letting a 12 year old write a sequel fanfiction to The Shawshank Redemption.
But the biggest killer for me is how the gameplay barely relates to the story. You explore an area, kill a few people and something bad happens and you wake up where you need to be. I never felt like I was making progress or achieving anything, I felt I was wandering around got ko'd or a cutscene where my character messed up and I awoke or accidentally landed where I needed to be. This was rife in the Ellie play through.
Abby's gameplay is far better and Yara and Lev are the actual only good people in the game imho, its much more actiony than Ellies but so much of its narrative feels like filler. It feels like its there to earn Abby the "Not a bad bastard afterall" award when it kinda does the opposite with the Owen scene.
When the game is on point its fecking amazing. The hospital with Abby is the best chapter and section in both games combined. I can't help but feel had they just built a game around Abby and left out the shitty revenge plot we'd have gotten a truly great game. A game built on the Seraphites vs the Wolves. They could have made Abby a truly likable character even with the same backstory.

The ones being "tarred" were the ones who clearly had a problem with all the "agendas" they thought the game had based on early leaks. Bit of an overreaction that when I never said nor implied on here or anything to do with the Caf don't you think. It was based on reactions in may other places, mainly social media. It's really not that hard to understand that your feelings are insignificant to the bigger picture, you didn't once mention the actual backlash history at all. Instead of provide him with an actual answer to the question, you start by never mentioning the reason the game was getting hate BEFORE release over months and months which was the main source of the backlash. The rest of your post was fine and I agree with most of it, but again, why did you actively cut out the actual main reason for the backlash?
So what I'll do to clarify is answer the question for you, without the need for pity:
You may remember there was a leak right before release about the story, but what you may not know is that there were a number of leaks much earlier that were way more inaccurate. It started with the 'reveal' that the main enemies were an anti-lesbian church who you were supposed to wipe out as some statement about homosexuality - Agenda 1, then got worse when Abby was revealed (and people apparently hate muscles on women, they can't possibly have them!) and it turned into one big transgender loving game - Agenda 2. That's when the agenda talk start appearing and talks of boycotting the game and even downvoting on metacritic.
Then came the actual storyline leak, and it added on top people who disliked the sound of that who jumped in on the metacritic bombing too, however it was still heavily pushed by the idiot agenda crowd and since the game hadn't even been played yet, it became hard to differentiate without reading the leaks yourself.
After release people who aren't scumbags played the game and left their reviews as with any normal game, but because of the huge homo/transphobic backlash that had been going on for months, some people couldn't see past that and pushed back on the legit critics without much thought.
This part is true. I liked Last of us 2 but it wasn't the "best game ever" that critics were claiming it to be. Plot itself had lot of loophole and it never felt satisfying experience that I come to expect from Naughty Dog. But the moment anyone who tried to point this, it was brushed off aside and name-calling started.

I seriously doubt this. Once the game was out and people were actually playing it, there was plenty discussion in here and no one was shot down for pointing out weaknesses. Unless you're referring to social media, where I assume it was a complete shit show, like everything else on social media.

Was just about to finish the current sequence I am on then come here and ask why as Ellie I am wearing a mask, however that same passage of play she took it off she had been wearing it for a while before I clicked on too.

How would you feel if the game randomly chose one person's path to start? Or even downloaded just one character story at random and upon completion of that character, it gave you a link to download the other part and see it from the other characters side.

However, if 50% of the player base started the game / story from the other characters point of view, would it then change how people view the game? Would people who got character B first maybe side with them more?

Up front I loved LOU2, absolutely loved it. The things I hated about it were the exact things that made me love it. It didnt end up being this lovely Hallmark/Disney family lovely feel good story and I loved that they went down the dark path with it.
In the first game you have a teenage girl who spends the entirety of the game having to do things no teenage girl should ever have to do, she had to grow up far faster than anyone should have to. At one point she had to take on a huge responsibility when dealing with the cannibals and when you look at her story arc in the first game its entirely plausible that her character ends up with the issues she had in the 2nd game.
I loved the way the game bounced backwards and forwards and between two characters, I thought it worked really well and we didnt end up with the same old vanilla timelines we see elsewhere. I honestly cant think it would be improved by changing the timelines etc. I loved the fact they went down their own artistic path with the game and hope that if they do a 3rd one they stay true to whatever vision they might have because for me both game 1 and 2 were brilliant. I prefer to be challenged not just in game play but also in ideas and themes.
I know I am probably completely on my own on this one but I think its the best game I have ever played and I have played a shit ton of games, my first games were in the early 80s with the C64 game Elite. I just dont see any need to change anything.
I wouldn't say its the best game I've played, but its the best AAA game I've played (though I've only played like 2-3 AAA games per year pas 5 years or so). And probably the most emotionally involving ever for me.
