Gaming The Last of Us Part II (PS4)

Turned the stupid game off last night because of the dogs, annoying as feck. Dogs are always some kind of super animal in games. They get you in this and then by the time you get them off and take 2 minutes standing back up you're somehow surrounded by enemies!

I would just bow and arrow the suckers out of sight which would confuse the fck out of whoever was with the dog.

I spent a lot of time doing this, too. Kill the dogs first and then the owner straight afterwards. I didn't find them as annoying as I thought they were going to be. Quite well handled, imo.

Yeah, the 'hardest' I found was this one big fcker of a zombie that was underground (back of an ambulance or something) and took a lot to take out, and another situation where it looked like lev and yara abandoned Abbie and it was a proper zombie apocalypse. I think both times were for abby actually.

I'm struggling with this now, not the difficulty, just the game in general. I'm not even half way through yet either. Just seems so tiring to play, exhausts me for some reason. Never had that with a game before.

I do feel it is getting quite repetitive though, very linear path, quiet for zombies and kill, small path, little bit of open area with dudes to kill, rinse and repeat. Even the areas are all getting very samey (especially in buildings). This is probably a problem with a lot of games and I usually don't mind it.

Not sure if it's just burn out for me though, going to complete it still, just feels like a bit of a struggle and need another game to break it up a bit. Any recommendations of anything in the sale at the moment? Looked at AC Valhalla but fancy waiting for that experience on ps5 I think.
Immortals fenyx rising looks cool too, and much less intense than TLOU2. Probably some hidden gems in the sale, the cheaper the better.

Did you enjoy the 1st one? All Naughty Dog games have that similar formulaic approach you mention mate. I was able to get through the 1st one for the story but I couldn't finish Uncharted 4 for similar reasons.

When I get to TLOU2 I'm tempted to just put it on easy so I can just breeze through it.

It actually took me a couple of goes to play through TLOU 1, gave up twice then managed to finish it in a week or so my 3rd try (only last year just before tlou2 came out). I enjoyed it in the end, had little issues with it but nothing major. Really enjoyed the uncharted series and played each on release. Weird I'm struggling with this. I did turn it down to easy aswell, I'm too old for a challenge now  maybe it's the stealth part tiring me out with the infected / humans. Could probably run and gun on easy mind but that seems like a massive cheat and not how it was meant to be played.

Hoping the 2nd half of it gives it a bit of a fresher feel maybe. Could be shelved for now and finished later.

Recently replayed Witcher 3 too so that epicness makes everything else feel a bit meh in comparison.

Yeah I feel like this is a much better game as Abby. She just seems more human than Ellie, Ellie never seems sincere, just seems like a spoilt brat to me. Abby for what she has done, still seems to genuinely care about people she knows and meets. That's how I see it anyway.

Game still has some annoyances. Silly jump scares just for the sake of it (I literally threw a bottle down a floor hole to make sure it was clear, nothing made a sound till I jumped down and then it came from nowhere).

Even though I am enjoying it as Abby in a way, I can't wait for it to be over now, it's a proper draining game constantly sneaking about and listening to make sure you dont get ambushed and mauled  I can't play for prolonged periods, maybe it's because I'm just a big chicken and my heart can't take it anymore

Also, this little dude who is following me about now (can't remember his name) has nearly had his face blasted off 50times because he always disappears and reappears as I am blasting the zombies.

That sniper segment was absolute dogshit. Felt annoyed while playing it, it's designed for you to waste ammo/health kits. It's scripted so there's always only one way to do it. Makes kinda sense when you realise who the sniper is but that isn't gaming. It's bullshit. Could have just as easily been a cut scene. Proper annoyed me has that.

They've made some weird fecking gameplay choices in this.

I feel the same. Im on paternity so I played it during the night last night. After about 30 minutes I had enough. I even put it on the easiest difficulty to whiz through some of it.

I love exploring but I don’t do it anymore because I just want it to end. Despite all this, there’s elements of the game I love but it’s too long for my liking. It’s constant stealth, listen, ambushed, either 20 infected or soldiers. You clear it and then have to do it all again in a few minutes.

I really enjoyed the whole arc with the sniper (if it's what I'm thinking of)

I have just really enjoyed a part of it now, going through haven I think it was called?? Fire everywhere, shooting baddies! Fire is always cool in a game

Syalr, it's where the sniper is shooting at you, not where you are learning to snipe?

Lay, yep, exact same for me, easiest difficulty just to get through it. Games are so padded out with "walk slow here" or "do this slowly" etc it's just killing time and adding nothing to the experience a lot of the time. It's the same with enemies, they're never in the perfect sequence as you get to that point so you can stealth them pretty quick. Always miles away from the perfect points so you gotta sit and wait for a bit to kill time and extend the games "hours played". That's not just a fault of this game, it's standard now.

I will say the game is quite beautiful. I'll be glad ive completed it when I do, and as interesting as the story actually is, it has some strange plot choices and imo the game feels too long. It feels as if I am nearing the end though, Abby segment has well speeded things up I think.

not happy that it didn't just let me smash Ellie's head in when I got the chance. I understand the game is telling a story, but I still want to have some choice in the things I do. I honestly didn't feel any guilt or on Ellie's side at all during the fight. The Abby shows mercy because of Lev? Still let me smash her face in and lev can hate me if he wants.

Probably only a few who feel the way I do.

Completed it.

2nd half way better than the first half imo, had a better flow to it and seemed not to drag as much towards the end.

Glad I finished it.

Overall an alright game, think I played it too soon after the first so it felt longer than it was maybe.

Wonder if they'll leave the story there. Don't really know where they can go after this. I don't think I could be bothered with a third if I'm honest but I'd feel I had to play it because I've played the first 2

. I thought that segment with abby was the best. That part with before and after

Did not know the game before, got it from a friend and took the PS4 up from the cellar. Absolute brilliant game, great story overall, amazing scenes, great gameplay, it is always tough to play as you're short of equipment. I loved it, don't know why people get so worked up over small story details they don't like

Dogs follow up. Place a trap bomb and you're done with them.

Really enjoying this game.

Just got to the Theatre with Dina. Still shocked at Joel’s death. Really hoping I get to smash Abby’s face in with a bat or something.

I struggled through the first half, hadn't long completed TLOU so ended up a grind. I enjoyed the 2nd half much more during the 2nd game.

As much as I am enjoying this game can’t help but feel they’ve dragged the story a little too much.

I also played it almost straight away after the first one and kind of had burn out by the time I got to Seattle day 2. Those dogs were a pain in the arse.

Picked it up again a few days ago and the second half of the game is definitely better.

I thought they did well with Abby's character as
the story around her develops and you get to play through the other side of Joel's and Elly's decisions. Couldn't stand her at first and that's probably deliberate.
Feel exactly the same.

As a huge fan of the game, that was my same complaint. It drags. It doesn't really diminish it for me though, or not significantly in any case.

Yeah it was great and had my feelings change from how I wanted the game to end

I’m absolutely loving the game and I’ve really enjoyed the backstory to Abby/Owen and meeting Lev and Yara. But yeah just feel it could/should have been a bit shorter

(I’ve just made contact with the Fireflies in Santa Barbara, so feel I’m not far off the end now anyway).

I think the game is better than the first by some distance. Both gameplay (which is objectively better) and story are superior. BUT, I do think the game is too long and it does definitely suffer from pacing issues. But the things it does well more than make up for that.

I'll say that the second playthrough, I found it didn't drag as much. I could enjoy it at a slower pace, without that urge to find out what happens.

Finished it. All in all a wonderful game. Can see why the story would divide people, but I don’t think I’d have enjoyed just another Ellie/Joel adventure as much as I did this.

Length was definitely an issue, but that’s just a minor gripe. Really enjoyed Abby’s backstory. Was hoping Ellie would let her live at the end and really didn’t want to do the fight - so I’m glad she let her go. Fight reminded me of Liquid v Solid Snake in MGS4.

Yeah would have been cool if you were given a choice on that (but then it would have been more a choice filled game that dictates how the game goes)
Minor gripe

It would have been interesting to see the stats of which way people would have chosen, but you’re right, choice would have to be a regular thing in the game to prevent it being completely jarring to then have a choice.

Also it would then make you question how they do the sequel?

Assuming like the telltale game with the previous game file needed
But I think that's a long complex thing where multiple game plays are needed and the way they did it works the best

Team Abby for me.

Sequel? Is that even in the works/planning?

I hope they do make another one. I think if they do its going to be 5-6 years at least till they do it and if they do i hope they follow their own path again. I hope they dont opt out for some lovely Disney/Hallmark lovely story.

Nothing has been said but let’s be real, they’ll want to finish the story.

We need a redemption arc for Ellie, and an ending that maybe is slightly more positive, and doesn’t leave you feeling empty for a week after?

Yeah, Ellie's story obviously isn't finished and the subject of how /if her immunity can be used is still completely open. I can't see it having a good end for her whatever happens if they do go down closing the immunity storyline.

Yeah, I enjoy how it's not always a perfect happy ending. Hate clichéd endings. Or obvious "twists"

I think they might go a prequel route for some reason. Not sure how, maybe with the intial part of tlou1, someone you "bump" into, you live their story on how they got to the point of the first game, and it ends with seeing/talking to Ellie/Joel somehow.

The third for the trilogy will probably see abbie and Ellie working together eventually or one saving the other

And one of them dying probably Ellie to produce a cure
