Champions League Quarter Finals 2020/21 - Apr 6/7 & 13/14

The way PSG set up against Bayern over these two legs, you can already tell how they’ll set up against City, and it’s a carbon copy of how we always set up against them. Just that this time, you take Rashford, Martial and James out, and replace them with Neymar, Mbappe and Di Maria. This is if Haaland doesn’t tear them apart tomorrow. Not getting too worried yet.

i think psg will beat city

I think it’s a 50-50, but people are sensationalising and saying City will tear PSG apart. More likely that PSG tears City apart on the counter. Verratti will play both games too, I hope. And this is if Dortmund doesn’t beat them tomorrow.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed football as much as these two PSG Bayern games. Probably the PSG United games with Rashford getting the penalty at the end.

I really can't stand PSG. Id buy a season ticket to Ellan Road before I'd willingly pay to watch a PSG game without United playing in it.

Can't believe how unlucky Bayern have been. Lewandowski is having the season of his career and he manages to pick up a injury during internationals that'll keep him out for just long enough to miss these games. The only reason PSG are through, is because of that injury.
And PSG were missing Verati, Marquinhos, Bernat etc.
Injuries are part of football. It's kind of weird to blame this as if the other team didn't have injuries of their own

Yes extremely unlucky.
Lewandowski would have scored a hat trick in the first game.

I find it nauseating just how popular city are on this forum. They have proven nothing yet every year get hailed the favourites.

I'm always astonished to find them as the bookies favourites season after season in the champions league. I wouldn't be massively surprised if they went out tomorrow night.

Also the happens every season after a team wins the champions league, last year everyone said bayern will win next year and the year after, before that Liverpool were set up for a champions league dynasty, you'd have to go back as far as Chelsea in 2012 for the last time people didn't say that seasons cl winner would dominate for the next few years and apart from real Madrid its never happened

PSG are lucky Lewa was injured because otherwise they were out tonight,

However i think it was a better result PSG going through as they will be more of a danger to City than this current Bayern team, Sane was fecking useless tonight also, you must be pulling your hair out if you're a bayern fan.

PSG probably favorites to beat City based on styles, and also think Poch has a decent record vs. Pep when considered he was up against him with Spurs. Whoever comes out of that of course will be heavily fancied to win the final.

Don't want PSG(Poch), City(Treble?) Liverpool(god no), Dortmund(Players become rip off) or Chelsea to win the champs league. This is a grim year.

That leaves RM who are poor.

British bookies with British people betting on British teams. It would be weird if they weren’t.

Yeah, fancy a full strength Bayern would have turned them over. Also agree that they are/were probably a more favorable matchup to City too.

You can’t deny how good the first half of PSG was.
I’m happy all the PSG players played well today. It doesn’t happen often. Great performance.
Bayern were unlucky that Lewandowski was missing but Choupo did a fine job with 2 goals overall. And we were missing Verratti, Marquinhos, Diallo (who missed 2 half times), Bernat, Florenzi...
We also can’t be sure Lewan would have made a difference

So we are writing off Dortmund vs City like we did for Lyon last season and focused on the semi final.

The reason its worth mentioning is because Lewandowski is to Bayern what Haaland is to Dortmund. Half their goals. (almost).

Lewandowski have scored 42 this season. That is more than Müller, Gnabry, Sané, Goretzka and Coman combined

PSG's and Bayerns injured players are not the same.

I feel the same. Just watched highlights on Youtube of our 07/08 champions league final against Chelsea. I miss those days so much.

No, this is really not how betting works. Maybe 50 years ago. This discussion seems to pop up every season around this time.

Is it different in the UK than in the US then? Because in the US at least lines and odds are adjusted in real time in response to injuries, betting volume, and myriad other factors.

Hm? That's exactly how betting works mate, the house always adjusts odds based on volume to ensure they come out ahead.

I mean its true to an extent but surely even if millions of people backed say Norwich against city the bookies are never going to make Norwich favourites regardless of the volume of bets. I'm sure I'd heard before that most bookmakers here base their odds off of the Asian bookmakers

I think thats a tricky one for sure, but I consider them pretty even. PSGs trio on top in Neymar, Mbappe and Di Maria is very hard to match, even for City. Those 3 could, and probably will, make life hard for them. Citys defence and midfield is probably better than PSGs though and theyre both extremely good on counter attacks. If Citys goes through tomorrow I think its gonna be 2 intense and pretty wild games.

They'd certainly look at it I'd expect! Making them outright favourites would never happen but if the line is City -2.5 goals or something that could potentially shift. Really though any sophisticated site at this point has huge analytics that are informing the bets they offer and is updating them in real time.

Of course the markets instantly react to any relevant news. But all the big money moves happen in Asia and all UK bookies do is copy Asia. No bookie manually sets odds anymore and there is no bias for British teams on British bookies. Any money staked there is totally insignificant and doesn't even cause a blip. Bookies don't aim to 'balance the book' but have to have betting lines as accurate as possible to not be open to exploitation. Hence they copy Asia where the big syndicates (which have data and analysis tools far beyond imagination at their disposal) stake.

No, but the price on Norwich would drop significantly as a result.

British football has a big following in Asia though doesn’t it?

With Verratti in there PSG have a better midfield than City. Whatever the result it most certainly will not be comfortable for either side. City have to get past Dortmund yet, they needed an incredible slice of luck to win the last match.

I really don't think so, De Bruyne is phenomenal, has been great,

Well, we did play almost a full game over the 2 legs with a back 4 made of :
- Kimbembe (ok)
- Dagba (bottom L1 level)
- Bakker (L2 level)
- Danilo (who played maybe 5 pro games as a center back before he game to PSG).

Well like pagh said above my understanding was that it was the prices used by Asian bookmakers that are usually used by British bookies by and large and that there wasn't much that would change this with the only exceptions being novelty betting like wwe or things that are more niche but not for major sports
