UEFA should probably delay their announcement of the new CL format due for tomorrow.

That would take the heat out of the situation for a few days. Otherwise this poker game could get real ugly.

I appreciate where you're coming from, but that adds to the spectacle when it does happen. If these ties became regular occurrences, they would completely lose their lustre. Playing the likes of Madrid should never feel as routine as playing Burnley.

How can the rogue owners possibly go through with this after today's shitstorm, which now apparently includes world leaders.
 
Has there been an official announcement? Haven't seen anything so far?
 
So what if United join this Superb League? A few fancy games, great commercial opportunities, gain loads of dosh, players come back to England covered in gold, hey United did you get a haircut, look closer Lenny, bloody fantastic and everyone's a winner. Who are Sunderland? The team playing against the guys who hammered AC Milan in a 1-1 draw in Peru across the road from Ian's burger van.

Anyone who doesn't see the greatness of this whole plan is a total idiot.
 
To be honest, all this uproar is well and good BUT if there is a real will politically, they can literally change the onwership laws for football clubs overnight.

People might call it socialism or communism or whatever but there is no other way of doing this because these guys probably know they fit within the current legal structures.

Bring on the Germany model and give fans a voice to stop this ever happening.

That's fair enough but it also shouldn't be once in a decade occasion either . Also this is where I think the American owners are coming from as well . They have no appreciation for history and want to just make more money

Do you tire of United playing Liverpool every season at least 2 times? It's one of the most important games every season. Same theory probably applies here.

The Premier League needs to make it quite clear to all these teams.
If you leave and it doesn't work, or you decide you want back into our league.
You will NOT return directly to the Premiership, you can apply to return by way of Division 2.
Let's see then who wants to take the chance.
 
What is the general consensus of fans from countries outside of England? Similar outrage in Spain/Italy?

No, they can't as the clubs are already privately owned.
 
Neville is spot on with his criticism of the 6 English clubs. It's the worst kind of selfishness I've ever seen in football.
I have supported United since 24th september 1983, but I will not see a single match in this European Super League. It's a promise.
These clubs will make a league where they are self-written. It undermines the entire national league system, where the best placed teams get the honor of playing in the Champions League. And why should these teams be self-written though? Many of them have not won a national championship in many, many years.
For the first time ever, I am embarrassed by Manchester United. This makes me sick.

I think a great punishment for the teams that have signed the agreement would be fair. A big penalty with point reductions, deprivation of all championships and maybe even forced relegation.

not condoning this breakaway, but feck me UEFA have zero morality to stand on.
 
Any chance this ends with the following?
- automatic qualification for certain clubs to the UCL.
- More tv money for certain clubs.

Go back to 1987, in the UEFA cup, I think. After 1-0 to Dundee United in Scotland, I listened to the live coverage from BBC of the return leg from my home in Norway. Strange as it may sound, it was of course surprising, but not really a shock-of-the-century type of result. That was the balance of power I grew up with, and it's incredibly boring now that the top of the pyramid is completely homogenized. It's like being forced to listen to the top-10 best-selling musical artists, and nothing else.

Not necessarily, they have done all this with the domestic league still being there and the money generated from that as well, if they relegate them or ban them that’s less income for them both tv deals and 18 match day sales gone, the league will survive without them it would be suicide for the clubs to risk being banned from domestic competitions.
 
From latest reports this seems like a shot across the bows at EUFA with regards to the new champions league format, though what that is I don’t know.

Anything in the UK, private or public is within the purview of the government. We've seen that in the last year where business owners like Ashley thought they could cheat.

But if a real emergency and will exists, rules just change. The only reason this private ownership is brought up is the cult of capitalism and we've seen today what capitalism in football ends with. So if they want to abuse the system, change the system.

The league would, but what about the clubs with these huge costs and no income (and income would go down)?

But it is City, United and Chelsea (this season at least). People don't watch teams based on how attractive their football is; they watch the biggest teams. That's why there is such a huge gap in budget between the biggest clubs and the rest. I don't think this will happen now but eventually Bayern and PSG will get on board and they'll do it.
