Italian Serie A - 2020-2021

I was really impressed with Milan in the games we played against them, 'levels' above anyone else we've played in the Europa this season
Because they were. They were the second best team in the competition, by far. And they were missing like 3/4th of their starters for that tie too

Milan would have had top 4 locked up by now if they weren't ravaged by injuries for most of the season

Wow! Juventus might miss Champions League.

What happened to that dominant force? Did Agnelli really think he was getting SuperLeague and just let this season fall with some wierd signings?

It's very much Moyes like season for them. Manager out of his depth (Pirlo has more excuse at least) and some in squad it's a season too far at elite level, Chellini is 36 after all and Bonucci in his 30s etc. They really haven't been great at any stage this season, dropped loads of points to bottom half teams so also a case of other sides realising as season has gone on they're not the force of previous 6 years and attacking them more as you will score goals v their defence if you take risks.

Juventus squad is the best in the league, clearly so. This is on Pirlo and whoever gave him the job in the first place

Kessie goal should have stood as well imo.

Great result. That was like 4pts to Milan as the 3-0 puts them ahead on the head to head.

Pirlo is Moyesing them

Do Atlanta have H2H over Juve too? If so Juve are basically relying on Napoli to drop points now.

Yep. Everybody has H2H over juve in fact, aside from lazio who need a miracle to come back in play

Milan have it over juve and napoli, and will play atalanta in the final game

Napoli have it over atalanta and juve

Yeah, they do.

What a shame. I mean how is it fair that if a little club like Atalanta finish in the top 4 they can take a place of one of the big boys' of Italian football?

One thing I find weird with Conte is how great he is in domestic football and how dire he is in Europe. I cannot think of many managers with a record of 5 league titles in 7 season (in two different leagues) have such a poor record in Europe.

Fergie?

Certainly in the early Prem years at least, although yes it was influenced by the foreigner rule but tactically we were outclassed time and time again in Europe despite dominating in England.

Feels that way.

Wow Ronaldo in the Europa League would be interesting

A bit like Dortmund and Liverpool though you expect someone will bend over and let these sides in. Leicester are doing that in England, Frankfurt in Germany, Napoli maybe in Italy?
Not with Osimhen finally hitting his straps.

True, if you compare the first 7 years of Fergies winning years to Conte's first seven. However, Fergie did correct it to 2 CL's and two further finals so he will need to aim for that.

Not sure that's true, the squad part.
They do. It's a flawed squad compared to the best in europe, but it's still better than inter's

Inter have found a strong starting XI in the second half of the season, but - Handa-Skriniar-De Vrij-Bastoni-Hakimi-Barella-Brozovic-Eriksen-Perisic-Lukaku-Lautaro vs Scesny-De Ligt-Bonucci-Chiellini-Cuadrado-McKennie-Arthur-Rabiot-Chiesa-Cristiano-Dybala

Admittedly juventus have had a bit of bad luck with injuries, but they also have faaaaaar better depth. Inter had those 11 plus darmian, young, the perennially injured sensi, and alexis as the only usable bench options, basically....

Can't say I'm impressed by that, that just looks like a group of geriatrics and a few up and comers. Mind you Dybala has been injured pretty much the whole season.

Arthur never seems to start when I watch them, McKennie played plenty start of the season but seems to have fallen off the radar in recent times for some reason and Rabiot and Ramsey are luxury players e.g. good options to rotate in if Juve were 5-10 points clear, not so great when they need to dig in and show some resilience in tight games.

Bentancur seems to be their regular starting CM.

It was better years back when they had all of Marchisio, Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal. Wonderfully balanced midfield that should've got them a CL.

They last kept a clean sheet in any competition on March 2nd at home to Spezia so really their defence and whole defensive structure is miles off what it used to be. Chellini and Bonucci are pretty old now and not everyone can be Ramos. Indeed just two clean sheets in last 17 games (other was at home to Crotone who are already relegated).

Far too many square pegs in my opinion. They have about 10 different midfielders that play the same role. Then they play with a 4 man midfield of those players that can pass it around between them, what's the point of that? They need to start defining specialist roles.

They have no players that can beat a man either, aside from Chiesa occasionally and Bernadeschi who never plays. Case in point - Douglas Costa. Perennialy injured yes, but had some flaif to beat a man out wide. Now they play Morata, Dybala, Ronaldo up top - all basically strikers that rarely beat a man (Dybala occasionally). When you see them play both Morata and Ronaldo, you know there's no good coaching involved - they're both the same type of player now and only one should ever play.

Cuadrado being a relatively recent dribbler plays at right back, which makes them weaker defensively.

Really they need a coach that sets a proper shape to the team, and not just plays names.

We should never let Sarri go if what we have in store was Pirlo. Former WC player, but he never couched anyone before this big job. It was the biggest mistake Juve ever did. He should never accepted it either now he ruined his managerial career. I hope he goes to a small team and redeem himself, because there is no way he will stay or get a job like this straight away.

Juventus is worsening since the day Agnelli signed Cristiano Ronaldo and let Giuseppe Marotta go.
They failed every transfer session in the last three years.

Geriatrics??? The only old players are Chiellini and Cristiano...

Always though that was a mistake by Juve to let go Allegri. He seemed to be very good at man-management as well as tactically, but I might be wrong. Why did he leave given his period at the club was pretty good ?

I will found it very funny to see them out of CL next season, I can't stand Juventus honestly.

Sacked because Juve board didn't like Allegri's negative football.

Funny thing is the squad bought into Allegri's methods and ideas to the point of being unable to move away from it, if Sarri and Pirlo are to be believed

Not an easy job as Allegri spent some time there. :wenger: Ole also finds it difficult to implement his ideas finding a team that has played negative, cautions football under Mourinho. It's simply more intense and more movement should be done which all, to start with, requires better physical preparation. Always admire how Allegri used Mandzukic as a wide forward/wide target man, a brilliant piece of tactic.

Given the recent ESL fiasco, I found it very hard to trust Juve board judgment. :nono:
