Hope he goes to PSG and not Chelsea... he's extremely good and effective going forward.

Seems like 3 at the back with 2 WB's will be their preferred formation. Not sure he strengthens Chelsea by that much, if you consider the prices being mentioned (Inter want anything from 60m-80m euro last i read) but maybe i just overrate James a little/James could potentially fill in at RCB as well, along with an ageing Azpi.

In Tuchel's system generally the RCB is actually more akin to a traditional RB when in possession given how much license the RWB has to attack. Think that might be James' best position actually - for me his crossing has generally been better from deeper positions compared to his cutbacks at times and he's got a wicked shot from distance on him that comes into play when he's more central. The other wrinkle is it might allow James to play in midfield more often - think he might be quite a decent option there when holding a lead & could provide some cover for Kante.

Personally I love Hakimi and if the rumours are true that we could offset some of the costs by sending Inter Emerson and/or Zappacosta I'd be all for it. Would rather go for him than a CB personally.

I think that's the plan long term. He even started using James there at the back end of the season.

Weird move given Chelsea already have Reece James, I mean he might well be an upgrade on James but it's certainly going to effect James development at a time where he'd be expecting to play week in week out. I know Tuchel has started playing James as a 3rd CB so maybe he sees that as his long term position. You'd think that might effect James' long term England career though as Southgate has already tried to move away from 5 at the back and I doubt whoever will take over from Southgate would want 5 at the back to be their default formation either

Chelsea once again though being cutthroat I guess if they feel getting Hakimi is of bigger importance than James' progression

James long term position (in a 3atb system) would be RCB.

Yeah I can see what you mean, but at the same time if James is playing RWB for Chelsea week-in week-out is it an easier transition to playing RB for England than going from RCB to RB? I'd argue that the latter might be a bit easier given how often our wide CBs step up into midfield but hard to say definitively either way.

Hakimi is probably the best pure RWB in the world though at the moment and I think he'd offer a lot to the side if Tuchel wants to continue with this system. Plus he's flexible enough to play at LWB in a pinch (though he hasn't done for a couple seasons to be fair) - could allow for Emerson to go without needing reinforcement.

Top player. I saw this coming, I should fight LuckyScout78 for the title!

Hakimi plying under Tuchel could be incredible. He’s so powerful when attacking. Would be the perfect coach for him.

He would tear the right hand side apart for Chelsea, week in week out. Offensively, he is relentless and attacking all the time. Give him license and freedom to attack and he is sensational.

Him and James on either flank, or, him and James on the same flank would be pretty deadly.

PSG have needed a top class fullback since Christophe Jallet though so hopefully they'll snap him up instead.

Latest rumour is chelsea matched PSG offer of 60 mn euros for hakimi and tuchel's wish to bring him in. And it's upto player to decide.

Inter willing to sell him and also interested in Emerson palmieri of Chelsea of course.

I've never seen him play, heard he's fantastic going forwards. If Chelsea get him, they are really building towards a great squad for angood few years.

Chelsea moving swiftly again yet we’re struggling to get Trippier or Sancho over the line.

Maybe I'm exaggetering a bit, but this is a player that could transform United's right wing single handedly. United needs him more than Chelsea.

Can play on both wings. Imagine he would actually play on the left more IMO. Since one or both of Alonso and Emerson will leave.

Surely we need him even more than Chelsea given James is quite good in attack ?

Would not just move James to becoming a CB in the back 3 and Hakimi plays as a wingback.

Mendy
James Silva Ruidger
Hakimi Kante Kovacic Chillwell
Mount
Kai Werner

Inter haven't accepted either offer have they and value the player at around £70m

No one at the club would sanction another £50m+ RB when we're only 2 years removed from the last one.

Great player but I can’t see Ole bringing the best out of him, Hakimi wouldn’t really fit into his tactics and we got AWB much more adapted to our style, priorities are elsewhere

Yeah, they're apparently pretty keen on Emerson though - if he has a decent showing at the Euros tossing him into the deal might go some ways towards meeting Inter's asking price.

I'm sure a deal will get done. Clubs don't bid formally unless it's going places usually.

Yeah there’s a lack of quality/proven center backs out in the market anyway (outside of Varane and Laporte - I doubt city would sell to you anyway) so that might be your strategy as well, which would suit your squad well. You’re also selling Tomori to AC for a good fee.

Yeah I thought it was more Azpi’s role but I do recall James playing there a few times at the back end of last season. I just thought he’d be a marauding/attacking right back when he initially broke through, but RCB might be more ideal.

Inter a weird. Signed him last summer for big money, he has a great season winning the league with them and they immidiately want to cash into that by selling him?
Manager leaving, key players leaving - all after their first title in a decade. Are they that skint?

I think they must be. Wouldn't be surprised if some more financial issues appear out of Italy again soon.

Apparently he’s at his best as a wingback, which doesn’t suit our system and assuming the €60m-€80m prices rumored are correct, we have much more pressing needs/gaps to fill in the squad which is also going to cost us a fortune. I assume that’s why the Trippier rumors are there - cheaper alternative, experienced and EPL proven.

I read a poster on here post something about the Chinese government encouraging disinvestment in football ventures - local and foreign. Might explain why Chinese clubs, who went on a spending spree a few years ago to attract international stars, basically did a U-turn. Not sure how true it is but I did a quick google and found this: https://www.google.co.za/amp/s/amp....ull-money-out-of-european-football/a-57171818

Don’t shoot the messenger.

I know the level is totally different but playing RCB (to accommodate Lamptey at wing back) is where he elevated himself to star prospect in the first place.

James biggest assists are strength and crossing. He is pretty quick too. I do not see him being pushed into a position that doesn’t really cater to his strength.

Reason Azpi plays there is because his strength is one-on-one and reading of the game, he doesn’t have the legs anymore either.

Im almost certain he wants to offload the left backs. He didn’t really seem too keen on Chilwell and Emerson wants to play more. We might keep Alonso for the squad coverage unless he pushes to leave.

Beyond that, there really isn’t many too top class left backs around. Plenty of decent right backs though.

The talent and football skills were really clear at the loaning period with Dortmund. Super athletic run up and down the left and right side. The engine and drive like Liverpool machine Robertson. A machine. Beside the football skills.

Very much so - it was the main reason Conte went. Despite winning the title they actually have to sell up rather than buy to reinforce.

What the hell? Are there more Chelsea fans than United fans on here now?

There are several emerging religions: Cr7, Messi, Pochettino, Guardiola, Covid...and now Tuchel

How long is left on James' contract? I'd take him here.
