Day 9: Hungary vs France | Portugal vs Germany | Spain vs Poland

Their defenders have been absolutely clinical after that break though.

:lol: Kimmich and Gossen absolutely destroying Portugal FBs I thought Portugal are playing with 2 DMs where are they?

Getting serious McFred vibes from this Danilo/Carvalho cm partnership. Workmanlike but not seeing any real quality on the ball there.

If we score the same amount of goals in the second half we have a chance.

Portugal will need a point against France or probably they will out with the current result.

How are Portugal this bad? They have one of the best squad in the tournamen and they can't even hold the ball for more than 30 seconds

They have always looked bad against Löw. At least no one has been sent off and Ronaldo hasn't cried yet.

Almost a suicidal pass from Bernardo there. Good save from Patricio to end a good half.

Portugal needs a midfield presence and make sure someone marks Gosens.
Their midfield is solid. Just that they are not working together. Whenever they get the ball they play like counter attack and quickly lose possession. Instead they should try to control the pace of the game. Play near final third.

Germany bar one counter in control I thought.
Still very vulnerable on the counter, I feel. Kimmich is visibly struggling to fill the space of two persons that our tactics leave him with.

Worked for France against the Germans.

But yeah, Portugal are all over the place.

France defense is superior than Portugal.

Is the same defense than won France WC 2018, which is why Germans struggled against France.

It will be interesting to see if Germany bring out the pigeon again for the second half.

Bruno is shocking

Bernardo silva is worse. keeping the ball far too long and kept making wrong decision. There are atleast 2 moments where he ruins Portugal's attack, first after getting the ball from Bruno rather than pass it straight to the centre (like Jota did) he tried to dribble it and second when he decided to pass the ball to Pepe instead of Bruno who is left unguarded on the edge of Portugal's penalty box.

I know this is a pet peeve of mine but I cringe every time when the German commentator tries to pronounce the Portuguese names "authentically" instead of just ending their names with a simple s-sound like a normal person. Ruben "Diazsch" is already pretty bad, but how he pronounces Bruno Fernandes´ name (Fernantzsch) really takes the cake.

I mean "Fernandsh" is correct but yeah, it's annoying to hear that thick German accent on top of it.

Souness the Premier League pundit talking about "Gundo Gan"

How is William Carvalho an actual footballer?

He didn't have a regular season, but Fernando Santos decided to bring him anyway.

I think he should be substituted in the half-time for Renato Sanches. William is just too slow to keep up with this dynamic Germany. If team mates don't pass to his feet, he will lose the ball, because he just can't accelerate to reach the ball first.

I missed that Ronaldo show boat during the game. What minute was it that he did that? Crazy bit of skill in fairness

Really good game to watch, though.
Tbh as someone with a hard last name to pronounce I appreciate when people try to say it properly, even if they say it wrong. Feel like it shows they're trying.

France defense is superior than Portugal.

Is the same defense than won France WC 2018, which is why Germans struggled against France.

Germany also struggled against basically anyone but Latvia.

see even the FwA's Player of The Year cant do much without proper help? ;)

If Portugal lose today and Hungary beat Germany next (unlikely, but still) and France beat Portugal, will this mean Germany 3rd and Portugal 4th?

If Santos doesn't make any changes at HT this could get ugly. It's a systemic issue here, the German wingbacks are having a field day.

Germany have created chances, they just didn't score.

I'm talking about creating chances, not just scoring.
They created just a few against France.

Kimmich has been positioned like a winger, not a midfielder or even defender.

Germany sucks actually, none of their players have scored today
