Rio just wants to get out of this Chelsea loving but the poor bloke is stuck there
Commentators laughed at Villarreal fans for being pumped up for the shootout. The narrative would be completely different had Chelsea lost that.

I can't post the link but saw on twitter that Kepa has won all three Uefa club trophies in the last 805 days. No europa conference obviously but clearly money well spent right?

Yeah that is a very good point and hope Rio gets to make that lot feel small a few times this season

Try not winning the league for eight years and then witnessing one of our PL rivals beat a team we didn't have the nous to
I mean they won the CL, so should beat Villarreal. We're not in the running to win either of the big trophies again this season. I can't be Arsenal of a few years ago celebrating the FA/League cup and top 4 either.

Well that at least proves you are a fan old enough to remember the likes of Spencer, Peacock & Kharine

Kerry Dixon was my boyhood hero. Shame how his life turned out. The time with him, Nevin and Speedie was class. Loved Kharine too.

Is it fair to say Chelsea are a good and successful cup team?

4th place domestically in back to back seasons, before 3rd and 5th, but champions of Europe's most prestigious club tournament.

Their CL run was not expected and they got favorable ties. Yet they have continued to struggle in the league to cement themselves as a legit title contender.

Might change with Lukaku and Tuchel becoming more tenured as manager, so I'd imagine the pressure is on Chelsea and City as favorites with Liverpool and United the challengers.

Since Conte left its been a bit of an ongoing transition period. After Costa fecked off our familiar striker problems reappeared, we had the team basically existing to support Hazard and it was all just quite messy. It wasn't until that big influx of talent last year that we started looking like a squad capable of seriously challenging again, and only now with Tuchel and the new striker that that has become a serious possibility.

I keep seeing this. In the knockout stages, they played Atletico, Porto, Real Madrid and Manchester City and only lost to Porto out of all 4. How is that favourable?

I think the Atletico draw was one of the harder ones they could get as group winners.

Porto was the best draw, but they are not as bad as people think.

In the semi final Real was the easier opponent, but still all teams left are strong at that point.

Fair to say PSG had nightmare draws and City and Chelsea fairly good ones.

At the time of the draw, it was absolutely brutal - the worst possible opponent we could get. In fairness, they'd hit a bit of a lull when we actually played them, but it certainly wasn't a given we'd win - believe we were actually underdogs in most betting markets.

Chelsea and Kepa really good at rubbing it in on DDG. DDG needs to redeem himself.

It's not who you play, it's when you play them. And as people have mentioned, Chelsea's route to the final was much more favorable. Walk over in the group stage, Atletico were very poor and goal shy, same with Porto. RM is a shell of themselves. Still good teams obviously and not taking that away from them, but it's still a cup winning team where their domestic results have them struggling for 4th.

Chelsea should be better this year, but so should Liverpool and United. City should sustain their level, maybe improve a little, but still missing a very good CF/striker to make that jump similar to Chelsea, Liverpool, and United.

Ziyech unlucky with injury. Last season knee injury this time shoulder injury. Both happened in pre-season. Rumours are 4-6 weeks out at worst.:(

Chelsea will beat Venus Athletic and become Universal Champions :(
That would be only the Sun Chamipion.
For the Milky Way Cup we would need to beat these pesky guys from Alpha Centauri.

The difference between De Gea and goalkeepers that can win a penalty shoot out is amazing.

Atletico were top of La Liga and Real second in the table when we played them, and that's how they finished the season. Porto was a very difficult opponent that had knocked out Juventus in the previous round. City were the best team in EPL and a huge favourite for the final.

Atletico made early exits in both cups and Real were up and down the entire season, just like Barca. Porto wasn't as strong and Juve were inconsistent too. Again, Chelsea played well and won. When they played them is more relevamt than who they played. But let's not pretend they had an easier cup run than the other teams.

That's just the nature of cup competition and it's fair to say Chelsea has been a cup team the past 5 years. Not a bad thing, but domestically it doesn't mirror their cup runs, thus labeling them a cup team.

It may change this year with Lukaku.

City will most probably sign Kane before deadline.

All European Cups.Champions league twice, Europa league twice,Super cup twice and cup winners cup twice.Only Barcelona,Milan, anderlecht,Dynamo Kyiv will match chelsea record until uefa bring back cup winners cup competition.

Chelsea had been approached to buy Chalaboh but Tuchel only wanted a loan to see him develop. Loan talks with Valencia. Chalaboh was supposed to get limited minutes but his play made Tuchel go with him the entire game. After the game Tuchel said Chalaboh has forced use to rethink his immediate future.

I don't see how Trev Chalobah can stay for the upcoming season. I could see it if we don't buy Kounde or if we sold Zouma, both of which I'd be perfectly OK with, but if one of neither of those things happen, then we have Zouma/Rudiger + Silva/Christensen + Kounde/Azpi. Not much room for Chalobah to get any significant minutes.

I still can't believe Chelsea are just one more flukey CL trophy behind Utd. Boggles the mind after having to witness Ferguson for 20 years in this competition.

Basically Chelsea's first was under the joke of a manager Di Matteo and the second in the same season that Lampard was manager for half of it. Jose and Ancellotti must be pissed.

If we can't win number 7 then a streaky side of me wouldn't be too upset if Chelsea won number 3 just for the craic. :D

The only comparison between 2012 and 2021 is we lifted the same trophy.

The circumstances that led both respective teams there couldn't be more different.

One Terry slip away from making chelsea 3 united 2 though. :D .
