Well of course it does. We're looking for the man who'll do the best possible job for us. Kenny's given us a style, an identity, has us playing ball, has blooded a stack of youngsters and is now getting results. I think we can give it a right go at qualifying in the next campaign but one way or the other, he's giving us more than anyone has in an age. It would be lunacy to change now.

I didn’t say I want change did I? Kenny is doing as well as expected. We simply don’t have the players ,especially in attack, to be contenders.

Going to a place where we’re getting the most out of the players available. Obviously. Which we haven’t done in years and should see us qualify for a major tournament soon enough. We’ve a young squad.

Don't Liam was being negative, think he was just putting across a different point of view that he's not fully convinced about Kenny yet. Which I think is understandable considering where we are in the group and some of the early results and performances.

I don't think what Brady said was necessarily wrong. He's just being cautious. Although, personally, I do think it's fairly academic as Kenny's work is coming good now and I don't see any reason to replace him.

Kennys work was never going to be short term. To boot him out now when young players have a good pathway, would be so wrong. Who would you even replace him with? You’d go back to being a clogger team
Nope. Just calling it as I see it.
Beat Luxembourg and it's a 3rd place finish. Was anyone really expecting more from that squad? 3rd place, young team finding some momentum and performances improving beyond hoofball. Lots to be positive about.
Winning 1-0 playing hoofball and qualifying and the complaining was about the football being shite and that playing that way wasn't good enough and we needed to try and play football.
Now we have a coach that is trying to instill a footballing style that is easier on the eye and actually is good to watch. The results aren't great and people are now moaning about not winning games, because winning and qualifying is all that matters really at the end of it all.
Irish fans are never happy. There'll be moaning no matter who is in charge and no matter how good or bad the results and the football are.
Beat New Zealand in the rugbg today and I bet you'll find some clowns somewhere having a right good moan about that too.

While I think Kenny is doing a brilliant job and that it would be madness to even contemplate sacking him, I do agree with the second comment on the rugby.
Win an Autumn International and Rte make it seem like we've won a world Cup final. Yet as we've proven in the recent past, when we actually play the All Blacks in a tourney, they put 50 points on us. It's tiresome. Save the ticker tape parade until the team actually accomplishes something other than utter embarrassment at a World Cup.
Totally off topic though. Expectations have to be lower for the footy (given that more than a handful of people play it across the globe) and Kenny is definitely achieving them.
I disagree about the rugby because Autumn Internationals aren't meaningless, we had dropped off massively at the world cup and were arguably the best team in the world when we beat the ABs as we won a grand slam that year as well. There seems to be some weird dislike for Irish rugby among Irish football fans and I dont get it.
Wrt Kenny, I'm surprised he's been given such leeway. I just checked. McCarthy had a 50% win record, Trappatoni 40%, O'Neill 33% and Kenny 15%. You have to go back to 1980 to see us do this badly. As far as I can tell, no Irish manager in that time has done as badly aside from caretakers.
I think he's benefited from a near total collapse in expectations and frustration over how boring the team has been for so long. We've basically reached the point were we accept getting destroyed if we don't kick it long as often.

What a strange analysis. The percentages you quote take no regard of context. It's not apples with apples, it's apples and oranges. Or apples and grapes. Covid ridden grapes. To step away from the fruit for a moment, I think ignoring the ridiculous number of players unavailable to Kenny from an already very shallow pool in the early part of his tenure is pretty disingenuous. Those stats mean nothing. He's clearly got the support of the vast majority of grass roots football fans. What do you put that down to? Naivety? Lack of knowledge? We've had literally nothing to get excited about since Robbie Brady nodded in against the Italians but lot's of people are excited now. That's because for the first time most of us can remember, he's telling us and his players that it's OK to try to play football, that we're not shit. Even if you play in league one, or Scotland or wherever. We needed to hear that. feck the results. He'll be held to account for them in the next campaign, as is right and proper.
That's fair. There are some forums that are moderated within an inch of their lives and they're basically just echo chambers, then there's subs were basically any trash is allowed.
Ole had a majority of fan support for a long time. Fans are hopeful to a fault. It's not an accident that plenty of ex-players like Brady and Dunne have been much more critical.
I agree that his team was massively disrupted by COVID but the results have been still been poor.
I think that's the real point. He's saying things fans want to hear and that's earned him almost limitless credit.

Fans could care less what he's saying. He rarely comes across great in press. It's what they're seeing on the pitch. Which surely is the ONLY thing that matters. If your heart isn't warmed by what you've seen from a young Irish side in the last 3 Internationals, you've a heart of stone. Either that or you haven't suffered through endless, monotonous, unnimaginative, uncultured shite in the Aviva under O'Neill or Trap. I have.
I think its the main thing but everyone knows that Kenny is trying to change how the teams playing. Fans are much more patient with that.

I’m not completely convinced by Kenny either but feck it, it’s the first time someone has tried to get this team playing football. Give him more time. What have we got to lose? We hardly ever qualify for anything anyway.
I think the bolded is the crux of it. I remember when Trap sleepwalked to to Euros qualification. I said that I'd prefer to see us attempt to play football and lose than hoofball and qualify. Lots of fans shared that sentiment at the time and it's good to see that so many of us are sticking to our word now.
To be fair, I agree with this. I'm sceptical Kenny can actually get us to qualify for anything but maybe it's better to play some good football in qualifiers than play trash in them and qualify only to be massacred.

But that's just a sample of what you'd hear anywhere else. Ireland could win the world cup and there'd be people saying it was only because every other team was shite.
Same goes with the football, Ireland could win every game and there'd still be moaning about something or someone. Win a few games and qualify playing hoofball the football isn't good enough, and it was all, "I'd rather see us lose trying to play football". Now we have a coach that is trying to play football and it's all "the football is better but the results aren't good enough, we'll never qualify for anything under Kenny".
Never happy, people can't see the long term benefit of moving on from the rubbish football we've endured ever since Jack Charlton was hired. He had some good moments, but he also had some of the best players in England and Europe to pick from and had them go out and play such shite. The decision to pick him over Paisley is what has had the national team playing that shite hoofball for the last 30 years.
Right now, we have a chance to stick with a guy who has been the first one bold enough to stick to his guns and move away from that rubbish for the greater good. Most realistic fans know that the quality of players just isn't there to qualify out of a group where we are third seeds. Wouldn't do it playing hoofball and haven't in most qualifying campaigns, however we were at least competitive.
The next best thing is to still be as competitive, but to do it whilst trying to play football. Which is exactly what Kenny is doing.
