With the amount of money that he has spent, I think any average manager can achieve what he has done which is close to nothing. He bought Maguire, AWB, Varane, Bruno, VDB, Cavani, Ronaldo, Sancho and Amad. Did he developed anyone? I don't see any, giving games to Greenwood is not Development, Greenwood is just good. Who else? Ole is just a bad appointment by the board trying to please the fan so fans don't turn on them. Ole should not have gotten the new contract. Ed should have been sacked to renewing his contract. I find it staggering the extreme number of niceties being thrown his way now we've all been relived of this misery (for now) despite 99.9% of fans on here less than 12 hours ago being happy to see him burned at the stake. It's all "thank you Ole you legend" now, vomit inducing.

He's been backed to the tune of nearly £500 million and the quality of the squad he has left us with is greatly exaggerated. He's spunked £130 million on Maguire and Wan-Bissaka. In 3 years, our solutions up front have been Ighalo, a 36 year old Ronaldo and 34 year old Cavani. Pogba is about to leave for free for a second time. Our midfield is non existent and he's brought other players into the club for huge money and had no idea where to even play them. There's been no forward planning with his signings.
He's been in full on preservation mode in the last month, doing anything he can to cling onto a job he was never qualified for in the first place. And what did he do after getting smashed by City to try and fix the problems? He had the audacity to piss off on holiday for 9 days when this club was in absolute free-fall. Incredible.
This "experiment" has been an utter failure, and so is he as a manager. The constant smirks and smiles after poor performances was enough to make you want to throw your dinner up the wall.

I'm over the moon to finally see the back of Ole. Sheer ineptness aside, stubbornness and failure to pick the right coaching staff ultimately became his downfall, which is why for the love of Krishna I'll never, ever, understand why he got a free pass like no others from certain segments of our fanbase. But I suppose this is why we should never appoint a club legend as manager ever again. It fecked a lot of people's heads up.

He steadied the ship for what he was brought in for, as an interim. The 2 following seasons he got about £270m in new players and underachieved with them. 66 and 74 points. Bottled every cup and the CL group stage. First season fluked top four on the last day thanks to lockdown and empty stadiums. Second season fluked second but gave up on the title fight in January.
And right now the squad has a good eleven somewhere in there on paper, good enough to win the title possibly, but the squad players are all alienated and so many players will be eyeing the exit door in January and the summer, another big investment in players is going to be needed.

I still dont have hard feelings. There was some good positive work during his time thats going to be overshadowed by the wheels falling off and us taking way too long to move on. The end leaves a bitter taste and paints the board in a terrible light yet again. But i hold that against the people making decisions rather than Solskjaer.
We didn’t have a ‘Thank you Jose’ thread even though he achieved more. A Thank You Ole thread is another lowering of the standards and falling into the Gary Neville induced propaganda machinery which wants us to feel that Ole’s stint has been successful. As a fanbase, we need to be more demanding otherwise we’ll just be another Arsenal for whom getting whopped to Liverpool has become quite routine.
He did a decent rebuild of the squad to be fair. You look at the squads we had when LVG and Jose left and you look at the one we have now and you cannot say it hasn’t been a good rebuild. Regardless of how much he’s spent.

I am surprised at the amount of hate he is getting over here. Some comments are just too much. The board should have let him go earlier this season, he kept trying but I guess he’s not good enough to take the team to the next level. There were good games, good runs and I, for one, hoped that he could build on what was done in the last couple of years and this summer’s signings. Unfortunately he failed to do that.
this does not mean that his status as a club great changes. Some younger fans might not know exactly what Ole means for this club (it’s ok, they just don’t). We’ve seen lots of ex-players fail at managing their clubs. Lampard is an example. The difference is that chelsea’s board was faster to react.
i think he left the team in bad form and not bad shape. The dressing room is not toxic, the group of players we have is good and under a more tactically gifted manager can actually achieve something.

How has he left us worse? People need to go to Dec'18 and look at what we were saying. People believed it would take 3-5 years to fix the mess up, we were willing to sell everyone barring DDG and Rashford and close to half the starting XI was on it's last legs - Valencia, Young, Smalling, Matic, Alexis.
People do counter by saying, "He spent 500m". I believe he spent close to 100m more than Mou and LVG but had 1 additional summer window. Now, here's a question, even forgetting about price inflation, with all the powers of hindsight, which players would you have bought for 100m on their teams to make their sides this good?
The thing is, he genuinely did good in a lot of things over the first 2.5 years here. Ofcourse there were some issues, but on the whole, he did better than most of us expected from the man taking over Mou's mess. As much as I've been advocating Ole to be sacked since last season, him becoming our interim manager and then given a permanent contract is easily my best moment as a United fan since SAF. On par with Ronaldo coming back.

It's inevitable that he'll be sacked as he's clearly out of his depth but I'll always keep Ole in high regards after what he did for us both as a player and a manager. The end of a manager at a club rarely look beautiful but let's not forget the good moments. I had plenty of those last two seasons. And he left us with a very good squad, minus the midfield of course.

I agree that Maguire isn't a top defender, but in totality I'd definitely take a Varane-Maguire partnership over any of the other partnerships in defence we've had in recent years. In fact we are stronger (player wise) in every position compared to the squads Jose and LVG left behind. It's just that our manager and coaches do not know what to do with the squad.
