On a scale of 1-10, how optimistic are you feeling about the rest of the season?

Well?

6.5 with current players (was a 3 with Ole), 8 with the ability for RR to bring a player or two in for decent cash in Jan

11. I’m just really anticipating watching a team with a purpose, as bad as LvGs football was to watch he had a plan - his successors have provided no consistency in terms of what they’re attempting. I don’t think the turnaround will be quick but we look to be trying to take a huge step forward which is good to see.

10! No time for being cautiously, or slightly or any other in between state. Full on, 100mph optimism.

Although not perfect, we’ve got a great squad who will surely only benefit from some experienced management and coaching. Bring it on.

This is a run of games that should see us back in the top four. Most of my optimism about this club is drained though. After a decent run under Carrick, it’s to be expected we lose to Palace tomorrow. This is what I’ve become.

7.

I am quite looking forward to what Rangnick would bring to us, both short term and long term.

Also, I think Ronaldo would be man on the mission, to fire us back to the top.

Sancho recent form has also been very encouraging, while Varane would be back very soon.

5.

Pessimistic i know, but years of false downs after Fergie have left me like this. If we end up with any trophy, which most realistically is the FA Cup i'll be happy with that!

Added a poll because it's interesting. I've gone 8+ as I'm really excited about the change Rangnick will bring

8.....Gone from a clueless manager to one who's philosophys have influenced some of the best managers in the world, all of who, speak glowingly of him.

Nothings guaranteed, but right now, im really looking forward to whats to come.

Probably a 7, just because it's us I won't go higher. But I am pretty optimistic in terms of playing a much better season going forward then we have so far.

We just removed Ole from his position with everything the same otherwise and we already beat Villarreal away, draw at Stamford Bridge and beat Arsenal. Were those performances amazing? No obviously not but it just shows how fecking bad Ole was. I really think in the last few months he was basically the worst manager in the league for us, just removing him out of the picture already got us good results again. And now imagine us getting someone who really coaches us and I can't be pessimistic about Top4. The Top3 are strong, but everyone else in the PL really isn't. I don't really rate either of West Ham, Spurs, Arsenal or Leicester. Spurs have Conte, which might make them the biggest competitor for us, but while he is a great manager, he is no miracle worker either especially without the ability to add players to the squad. We had a train wreck of a season so far and 4th is still very close.

It's a shame we waited so long to sack Ole because otherwise we could probably still aim at the top, which will be very difficult now, but we can still do well enough in the CL and FA Cup at least and next year could be very exciting again. The next couple of games in the league all look winnable, so I really hope we can string several good results together.

The poll should have probably been split in 4 options with 4 and 5 together alongside 6 and 7. 7 seems pretty confident, while 4 obviously isn't, so feels weird to pick 4-7 as a option when I am on 7.

I think we’ll get better as the season goes on. It will take time to install his systems. Attacking talent in the squad is fantastic, it’s the midfield and defense that are suspect. Could we spring for a midfielder in January?

Tottenham and Conte scare me a bit, I think it will be a dogfight for 4th. If we finish 4th and win the FA Cup, I’d be delighted. Would be disappointed with any finish outside the top 4.

What really is there to be optimistic about? League's over bar the scrapping for 4th with the likes of Spurs and West Ham. League Cup is gone. Would take a real genius for us to win the UCL so that leaves the FA Cup

Then in the summer we either continue with Ralf which deviates from what clearly is the 'plan' right now or we hire someone like Poch which will divide the fanbase or ETH who let's be real is unproven but 'might' be a brilliant appointment

All the while we now have 3 other sides in the league all completely settled and looking a class above us. Sorry I'm just not feeling very optimistic at the moment

Crap..

I wanted to vote 8-10.. but voted 1-3 by mistake.

Anyway.. as of now I am 8/10 optimistic.

RR said his plan to go game by game and slowly implement a style, he will use video to point out problems and issues during the match, which means he will tell what's right and what's not right to do, the players need to hear it.

Let's see how it goes

5. Neither here nor there. I would like to see some signs on the pitch that we are heading in a good direction before getting optimistic.

Heart - 10 - Whoooooo! Common. We'll be better than City and Liverpool in 2 weeks! Common!
Head - 5. Fk off heart. How many times have you been broken. You're so fkin stupid.

It will take two to three years to build a decent high press side even if we make all the right purchasing and recruitment decisions in that time and if we maintain high levels of investment and if we ship out the players who fail to adapt.

Three big ifs and three long years. Lots of scope for falling back into old ways of hiring Bodger and the wrong players just because they're young or available. 5/10

Rest of the season? 5 or 6, there will be growing pains, we may not reach CL.

Longer term, I'd say an 8. It's the first time post SAF it feels like we've got a long term strategy. Some big hurdles still ahead with squad rearrangement, we're probably going to oise some valuable players for free, questions over whether we can attract the right players especially if we aren't in the CL.

I choose 7 because:
1. Mid season changes are always tough
2. We are not in a position to improve the team to win something but rather to get the basics right. Considering the aim has always been to win something, I cant say I'm very confident (7+) when its clear we probably wont anything this season
3. Consistency is something that happens over time, not within months. Regardless of how good the manager is (not saying its impossible but rather unrealistic to expect consistent performances after years of inconsistencies)
4. Ralf came in a very awkward time, he has no preparation. Had he joined after Liverpool game I'd be more confident. The squad is kinda broken right now and it takes more time to instill the confidence back

But regardless of those, if Ralf can do a good job (doesnt have to be spectacular like winning the CL) the effect will be huge in a long term. Now we have someone who's been in football for decades as manager, who might step up into other position, who is not a biased United legend and can see things for how they are. This is what we need. We need to start something right before trying to achieve bigger goals. A step in the right direction.

I don't feel optimism, I merely accept the facts as they play out and assess my part in how to respond. Emotions are a fool's game

Much better attitude than those saying 1/10 and the likes!

If you can't be optimistic now then give up.

6.5.
I'm glad we finally look like we're modernising and it's nice to have a manager who seems to have a clear vision, but it won't happen overnight and that's the worry for me with a lot of our support who have probably got a bit carried away with this appointment and will expect us to dominate matches pretty much straightaway.

Same with the media, you can almost sense it changing already after the positivity when it was initially announced and ex players like Evra already questioning it unfortunately will have an impact on a lot of fans even though it shouldn't.

Personally, I just want steady progress until RR gets his message across, I want to enjoy watching us again not hiding behind the sofa when when we play the better teams.

Top 4 and last 8 in CL and a decent FA cup run I'd be happy with at this stage.

Fairly optimistic, but not expecting miracles as it will be difficult to transition to an aggressive pressing team

Saying that, I don’t see any reason why we can’t get fourth

8-9 I think we'll have a good season considering the dreadful start.

A lot of our players have been out of form, whether that be an Euro hangover or mismanagement from Ole and the Staff, probably both. We've not got close to our natural level yet and there's no doubt in my mind that we'll bring in a central midfielder in January. Our squad has top quality throughout, we'll be significantly better in 2022. We also have a generous run of fixtures which will allow us to build our confidence and swagger back. I'm convinced we'll win a trophy this season.

I’m still pessimistic about the season - the performances this season have been so, so bad that there’s so much work to do and very little time to do it.

But I think we’re on the right track beyond this season.

I started at 4, knowing it was a mistake not to sack Ole after the EL final. Bumped up to a 6 with our summer signings, down to a 2 when it looked like we were persisting with a very poor coach, and now back up to a 6 with my first choice interim being appointed, but also coming to the realisation some of our players are just massively overrated and we need more players than we initially thought to compete.

We'll surprise everyone by going on a long unbeaten run and finishing in the top three, possibly even winning the whole thing.

10. But I have felt the same for all our new managers since SAF (except Moyes, I was a 5 for him).

9

If we win tomorrow then we are 9 to 11 points behind the top. Everything can happen now. Think others are going through a bad patch at the moment and we will lift

Rangnick talks a good game but I won't truly be optimistic until I see it being implemented on the pitch. Still, it's a much needed change so that's why I'm half and half.

7. Rangnick is a good manager, and these are good players. And our fixtures until March are entirely winnable. Let's get going.

8/10

Fairly confident we can get at least 4th and have a decent run in one of the cups.

8/10 From me …we have a fantastic new manger in RR who sounds and looks the part ..a huge upgrade from Ole who was frankly in way over his head and should never have been given the job in the first place. I’m confident we’ll have a good run in CL ..maybe semi finals. Yes, good times are ahead of us !!

9/10. If Klopp calls you the best German coach, you probably are. I think this was the last bad year for United.
