Looks like he’s on the way out. One less disgusting owner in charge
I think hes been clever. He has essentially parked Chelsea, handed the control to someone else short term, and kept the club separate from the political sanctions. So Chelsea effectively cant be included in the sanctions or affected. That’s pretty big news.
I think he’s leaving.
His background is murky, but he's arguably one of the best owners in the game on the sporting side and community side of thingsLooks like he’s on the way out. One less disgusting owner in charge
There were reports yesterday that potential buyers were circling in the event that Chelsea is put on the market. I thought nothing of it at the time but they make sense now. I don't really know what this means long term, but it does feel like the beginning of the end.

Should he sell though i can only see a saudi type takeover. He won't sell to someone with less wealth as he truly does have the clubs best interests at heart imo
Meh, he's just going to be replaced by an even more disgusting one. You don't become a billionaire by being a nice, morally upright personLooks like he’s on the way out. One less disgusting owner in charge
Isn’t that sports washing though? His background is murky, but he's arguably one of the best owners in the game on the sporting side and community side of things
what does that even mean?Cant start a new thread but Abramovich has just left care of Chelsea to trustees.

Can’t see a billionaire buying them. Apparently they don’t own Stamford Bridge which leaves them ripe for an investment firm, or so I’ve read. Feck knows if it’s true but apparently there’s incredible value in buying Chelsea since they have the most expensive ground in world football due to its location.Meh, he's just going to be replaced by an even more disgusting one. Imo i think it just changes the ownership on paper. He'll essentially shadow run the clubIt does feel like a soft withdrawal and given what’s going on in the world I can’t imagine a scenario he could return.
Will he have the appetite to carry on? Very much doubt it. This is the beginning of the end as the world is going to be a very hostile place to Russia and Oligarchs from here on in.
I expect he’ll fade away slowly now.

Its obviously a ploy to keep us away from being seized off him.Wishful thinking. We shall see though. The club will be under a hell of a lot of scrutiny now, especially when it comes to financing.

From what I see these mega billionaires don’t really buy huge, expensive clubs but build a lesser club up.
Anyway, for Roman to do this means he’s heard about something coming down the pipe.
The land Stamford Bridge sits on has been owned by a fans group (Chelsea Pitch Owners) since the 90s, who lease it to the club for pennies.
It makes selling the ground without the fans backing virtually impossible.
I'm part of the CPO. The strength of the fan organisation was on full display in 2011 when Abramovich wanted to move Chelsea to a different London location and needed the CPO to sell the land to him first. It was put to a vote and we rejected it, which scuppered the project at that time.
Offtopic, but can you explain why Chelsea cared about buying the land, if the goal was to move?

He wanted to sell the Bridge but couldn't because the fans own the land the stadium is built on.
To sell Stamford Bridge.
Selling it would bring in a huge chunk of whatever the new stadium would cost to build.

I can judge him.Actually, no. What he does outside of the club you and I are not privy too and cannot judge him on. Some stories might I remind you were proven false.
On the clubs side, the man is a legend. Not only has he invested in us but he has used his money to help the UK. If anyone has a more disgusting owner, look no further than the Glazers.
He has hasn’t he? His daughter has been all over social media with the whole “the will of Putin is NOT the will of the Russian people” stuff everywhere. Most Russians, including sports people, are coming out and denouncing the war. Roman should do the same and we'll believe you zaphod.

Quite right. I dont think there has been a better owner of a premier league side in the time he has been with us. Slightly bias yes, but aside from his sinister background or whatever, he really is a terrific owner. He's been funding illegal Israeli settlements displacing Palestinians from their homes, in fact he's the biggest donor. He can be a great owner of a football club and a terrible guy at the same time.

All being said, i dont think he will sell, or be forced to sell, and has already been confirmed as continuing to bankroll the club. I just hope tomorrow's final doesn't have an anti-chelsea theme to it, simply due to the Russia-Ukraine stuff.
He wont be forced to sell the club, its plainly obvious what he has done, and any other scenarios being thought up are wishful thinking by oppo fans. Those trustees will probably have as much say in the running of the club as you or I. Its just a paper trail being createdHe's a fantastic owner of a football club in the sense that he just cares about winning, but what he does away from the pitch is just as important to talk about, and the sinister stuff you quickly brushed over is actually really fecking evil and it's why I won't shed a tear if he is forced to sell the club. In fact I'll be relieved briefly until the next wealthy deeply unethical person takes over and I go back to feeling conflicted about my football club.
See, I’ve never read anything about a father/son relationship. Although a lot of sins hate their fathers so … maybe? Roman gained what connections he had through the Yeltsin period and the US backed loan for shares program. When Putin had finished solidifying his power Roman was “asked” to sell his business in its entirety to the state controlled Gazprom. Nice thing to go to a son. Romans children very publicly hate the man, and it doesn’t SEEM like they e been welcome or safe in Russia for quite some time. Maybe the fact Russia started conducting hits made Roman nervous for reasons that went beyond “souring relationships”?Again, he did not prove that he has no ties. He's literally known in the Kremlin as "Mr. A" and his relationship with Putin has been described as father/son. There were reports a few years ago that they'd fallen out (after the Skripal attempted assassination if I recall correctly), but this could have been a planted story (and I am not 100% sure of the timing or veracity).
What he proved in court is that he didn't purchase Chelsea because Putin told him to. There is nothing in that lawsuit proving or disproving their relationship.
Does him not deciding to collect on tbe loans Chelsea owe him mean anything?
Surely it means Chelsea will have exrra cash now if they arent repaying the loans?
Didnt really get the implication of that one.
Interesting that Abramovich had to distance himself from the club before the club posted this?
We've never been paying back those "loans". Nothing has changed.

I thought he was an orphan?Roman hasn't said a word.
His mum (and both maternal grandparents) are Ukrainian as well. I obviously have no idea but I can't imagine he's happy with a war between them and Russia.

I thought he was an orphan?
And correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he win a couple of lawsuits against media oulets/journalists who linked him to Putin and his regime or was that for a different thing?
