Anthony Martial | Sevilla loan watch

Made of glass, shit and lazy.

Even Sevilla don't want him.
I read that Sevilla dont want to pay Martiall the huge wages United pay him, and I expect that could be the same regarding a few of those players on loan we hoped to get shot of; we pay them far more than their ability etc warrants and other clubs will not. So I expect we'll be stuck with Martiall again until his current contract is up or he decides that playing regular football for less wages is better than warming the bench with his bum match after match and leaves. I wont hold my breath though.

Bit shite 'int he?

Shame as I still feel he has the potential to be world-class in the right system, with the right manager......the kind of player where if Klopp or Pep got him 5 years ago he'd be unreal.

This./

I genuinely think he has/had the talent to be one of the best. I’ll remember his first season with us fondly, unfortunately it’s been all downhill after that.

Just looked it up - he is on £250k a week. Salah is on £200k a week. That is absolutely sickening.

There is absolutely no way we are shifting him for any money before his contract ends in 2024. What do you do? Loan to Serie A and hope he does a Lukaku? Even if he does, we'll get feck all with a year left in his contract at that stage.

He was neat and tidy when he had the ball which was rarely and looked dangerous occasionally - their best chance came from a great back heel from him. But he looked so one paced again - thought he’d regained his speed. And he was properly knackered coming off which is weird because he didn’t sprint at any point during the 100 minutes he was on the pitch. His injuries last 18 months really fecking him up.

That rings a bell.

Yup, we're going to be stuck with him till his contract runs out, unless of course he agrees to sign for another club but on lower wages; but that would take ambition and I just dont think Martial has any, hes happy to sit on the bench or probably better still not even make the squad and simply pick up his wages. A total waste of space.

I don't begrudge him making as much money as possible in his career at all though - it's what any of us would do for our families as well. I do blame the people who offered him such a large contract and think they should be held accountable, however.

I have just noticed we have the option to extend a year after 2024. All you can do IMO is loan him to Italy, pray someone covers a good % of the wages, and that he will do a Lukaku/Abraham so we can sell him off for a decent amount. As stands, I don't think clubs would even pay £10mill with his current wages?

Yep. People like to pretend that Martial never had anything, but he had more raw talent when he came here than any other young player who has worn the shirt since. That he hasn't managed to put it together and become the player he had the potential to be is a failing of both him and the club, but the talent was definitely there.

He was probably their best attacker tonight. But seville were terrible.

I assumed seville would be a possession dominant side but they are not. They don't have an identity that I can identify.

La Liga has plummeted as they are 2nd. Barca must be completely shite.

All the talent in the world's irrelevant, if you don't have the correct attitude to go with.

The lads attitudes shite

Enough said

He is basically a one-trick pony and did not progress at all since his arrival. With a salary of 250k/week, it will be really difficult to offload him unless he is willing to take a massive pay cut. Whoever in charge of transfer and contract renewal clearly have a agenda to overpaid anyone with anything...

That's crazy.

We need to stop paying these players just based on potential alone. They've achieved feck all.

10m might just induce some club, say a Newcastle, to take a punt on Martial even with his heavy wages. I was savaged last summer here for suggesting we may have to accept 10-15m for him.

I hate to say it but I think that ship has sailed. If he is going to be better it will take more than a system for it to happen, and if it was going to happen it would have happened by now regardless of system or manager.

If he were on a lower salary, he’ll be a decent squad player for us. But we play world class salaries based on potential which ironically plays a part in reducing the motivation to achieve the same potential. Happened with both Rashford and Martial. To think, the 70 odd goals scored in 2019/20 by Marcus, Mason and Martial was as good as it got. What a shame.

Whoever advised him to bulk up before ruined him. He lost all of his pace/dribbling, and he's been struggling to get back ever since. He looks slim at Sevilla, but his explosiveness is still not near what it was before. Shame.

He looks past it at 26. I hope he can turn it around, but he's a long way from the world cup squad with young studs like Nkunku and Diaby coming in.

Barca are 3rd because Koeman was terrible, Xavi took over mid season and they've looked like a proper team since. It's scary how much potential that squad has when Xavi get's a pre season with them and adds a few players defenders.

Barca were completely shite, until Xavi took over and got a couple of signings in January.
Aubameyang is banging them in for fun since joining. 5 goals in 6 league games and 7 in 10 overall.
They'll get 2nd now easily and have a game in hand over Sevilla.
Atletico Madrid are the true shit show and we managed to get knocked out of the CL by them.

His loan has been pretty pathetic really. He’s done nothing to raise his profile beyond the lazy, sulking player he was portrayed as at United.
I can’t see anyone wanting to pay for him, let alone loan him next season. The new manager is going to have to work him into the side - along with Rashford. Both could be our forwards next season.

I gave up on Martial years ago. I was one who wished Mourinho replaced his arse with Perisic.

He is one of our most overrated players in recent memory.

Apparently the Glazers favourite player...

Says it all.

No, the new manager needs to get rid. He is not good enough and stealing stupid wages. Offload or leave in reserves. End of discussion. Do we never learn?

I didn’t see the whole game but one moment I remember from Martial was his attempted dribble that was easily snuffed out.

Glad people are finally seeing him for what he is now they’re not blinded by him wearing United colours.

Yes, this is the problem at United though, we give average players like Martial too much time and have this hope that he may come good.

6 years on, its quite clear he is nothing special and cannot play for us if we want to win stuff.

If we want to finish mid-table...neither of them is good enough for our first 11 if we want to challenge for titles.

Not suggesting they are, I was trying to imply that the club may have to use them both as forwards next season due to the clear out of players. I think it would be a disaster but a new manager may well elect to keep them both to lay there, given they have previously to varying degrees of success, whilst looking to strengthen other areas of the team due to departing players.

Everything that's been wrong with the club right now can be reflected in Martial. Lazy, high opinion of himself and we're paying him more than the best attacker in the premier league / the world Salah.

He’ll be playing in Turkey or Greece before long.
There’s still a small foolish part of me that hopes that he’ll come back and a new manager will whip him into shape, he was so talented it’s such a shame the attitude seems to have let him down.

This is one thing I do think Ragnick seems excellent at and will address if he stays as a consultant, he’s not interested in big names or players over a certain age. He wants athletic, technical players who graft and have the right attitude (Mane, Haidara, Firmino, Haaland, Konate, Kimmich, Werner) which is essentially what we don’t have.
