Regarding the stadium, the best possible course of action is to leave Stamford Bridge. They have explored alternative options but I don’t see them being viable, if at all possible. The government has obstructed the club in the process as well, highlighting further problems. This is even before mentioning the CPO which becomes another issue for the club.

A great deal of the issue with the last plan though highlights a lot of the issue with how the club is being treated right now: they just didn’t want to be involved with Abramovich.
One of the last plans I saw taking it to 65k while adding non-impactful improvements to the entire shopping area around the stadium was a really well thought out design. They just didn’t want it from him. If an ownership group they approved of, that was allowed in their private clubs, etc , put forth that same plan… who knows, right?

Perhaps. You could definitely feel the negativity from the government and every one of the mayors of London for each and every idea we put forward. Heck they even sold off Battersea to the Malaysians over a London based football club.

I would imagine that is some way off but it could happen. NFL teams coming to London have the advantage of only playing a 17 game schedule unless they make the playoffs and getting a bye week after an overseas game so a 14 day gap between games. The PL would need to significantly cut down on the games in its schedule to make this work and I don't see them going for it. If enough money gets pushed into the middle of the table though we know the owners would take it and the more clubs run by Americans the more likely it becomes.

Oh, for sure, I am UK based but I follow a lot of US Sports Media coverage due to the NFL and the PL has certainly picked up significantly in this regard; this is also supported by viewing figures, participation in sports etc.

I can say that school level American Football is as popular as it always has been. There were parent concerns over the concussions and the NFL and youth sports responded quickly with "heads up tackling" If you drop your helmet to make a tackle, it is panelized in youth football even more than professional. I don't think all this has reduced concussions significantly, but it has reassured parents.

It is a massive driver of the interest in all honesty. My oldest is in High School and plays on the "soccer" team and the change has been evident since he started playing at around 4 years old. Initially, for boys at least as the girls game has been big here for a while, he was playing with kids who would be considered unathletic and really had no other options for sport. In the last 3 or 4 years more and more of the truly athletic kids have been switching sports and although the rising popularity of the game on TV helps a lot of it is being driven by parents not wanting their kids playing American Football due to the injury concerns. This season one of the star receivers for the football team quit and switched to soccer for this reason even knowing that his chances of a paid college scholarship would be taking a hit by switching sports.

According to the Athletic, Abramovich still has a say in the process and it is understood Raine has been instructed to select the best bid, not necessarily the biggest.

They say Abramovich wants Chelsea to go to a group or individual with a proven track record, a vision for the club and easy access to funds.

That probably means the Boehly group and one of the other US sports team owners (Cubs, Jets, Kings, Clippers etc) stand a decent chance.

It should be the highest bidder, unless the premiership deems them unsuitable owners, that's how i't'll work for all other clubs been sold, I'm struggling to understand why Chelsea whould be treated any different. This even more so given where the money should ultimately be ending up.

As far as RA is concerned the club might as just as well be given away to the 'best bidder', and let them spend the money on the stadium and players instead, he'd be even more of hero to Chelsea fans then, but I'd like to think given he is a sanctioned man, he will have no say in this at all.

I don't think anyone would buy a club for 2bn to act like Kreonke and Glazers.

Ofcourse there's a chance of gross incompetence (a major problem if we get Woody) but that's another argument.

It's different because Chelsea haven't fallen into administration and therefore the government isn't directly handling the sale. They essentially have veto power but unless someone truly reprehensible is picked it's hard to see how they'd justify rejecting someone like Boehly for Ricketts if the difference in bid size isn't enormous.

It depends what you mean, if it's a few grand then I suppose it doesn't matter really, but it won't be, we'll be talking about tens of millions, which is massive for where it is hopefully going to end up going, which is why it should be the highest bidder.

And tbf I doubt any of the bidders are that bad for you, not RA for sure, but nothing like what we've got.

That's definitely a fair point. I suppose it remains to be seen how this all might work in terms of bids being adjusted - and also how this money would be utilised. If it's the Tories who are dispersing it, frankly I'd rather have a better owner at a discount as I've no faith it'd get to where it's needed.

I think Woody Johnson and the Ricketts would be just as bad as the Glazers frankly. The Glazers at least have shown a willingness to push for success in the NFL, unlike Johnson. And the fact that the Cubs ended their 108 year championship drought under the Ricketts yet most of the fanbase wants to see the back of them is telling. They're nowhere near as competent as FSG, for instance.

If I was a Chelsea fan I would too, but as a oppo fan if Chelsea end up getting an owner that is 'happy to have fans on the board', build a new stadium, has lots of money to spend, etc, but higher bids were rejected by a Glazer lite type owner, or the Saudi bid, on the grounds of 'it wasn't right for Chelsea', then you have to admit that it won't sit right at all, when Newcastle have just had the worst of the worst approved, and no one who could have done anything about it batted an eyelid when we were just about robbed blind by the Glazers.

If Chelsea get decent owners who are paying the most money then fair enough, will be interesting to see how it plays out.
