I must not be understanding you or I wasn’t fully paying attention. As far as I remember his pit stop happened under full racing conditions. The VSC ended before he pitted.

He couldn’t. The pit lane was closed and only re opened after the race was restarted.
Max proving he is the best driver on the grid yet again. It's refreshing to see 2 very talented drivers race each other to their absolute maximum for the win, it's been a while.

He could have, there was an opening at first which Magnussen took just behind Hamilton but Mercedes were apparently too slow to register/unsure about the situation.

I used to notice it a bit but I just assumed it was @Niall breaking the forum again but since becoming a Scout it's not been an issue.
Hamilton drove a good race today. If he keeps up that form he'll be good for at least 5th in the standings this year. I think the team let him down a bit not being decisive on the pit call when the VSC came out. Small window but you gotta react fast in F1.
From the radio it seems like both messed up a bit. The team wasn't decisive and clear enough, while Hamilton just passed Alonso who was slowing down and once Hamilton saw the pit lane, he also saw Ricciardo standing there. It was a very tight space between the entry line and Ricciardo and he probably thought he'd either risk hitting Ricciardo or getting a penalty for crossing the line and couldn't react fast enough anymore.

Max made the same dumb mistake tonight that cost him last week. I thought there's no way he's going to allow Leclerc to have him on strings like that for much longer. Small coming of age moment perhaps? Always thought he was an emotional driver who always acts on impulse, but he showed some impressive poise in the heat of battle tonight. If he can be strategic in crunch moments and still keep his aggressive/emotional style, he'll be hard to stop this season and for years to come.
Yeah true. I also think it's fair to point out that Max would have been in the dark more than usual regarding CLC's battery status given the problems with the lights - he might not have been able to appreciate the extent CLC could dump his battery in the second DRS zone. Also, as Red Bull had a ~10 km/hr advantage on the straights, I can understand why he gave it a go once at least (with 8ish laps remaining I think?) to see whether he'd be able to limit CLC from catching him up - especially if he'd managed to stay ahead going into sector 1 where the Ferrari had the biggest advantage but overtaking would be hugely difficult.

Don’t get me wrong it’s always been present to a degree. Vettel, Alonso, Schumacher, Lauda - every great driver has had detractors but it used to seem like there was still a level of decorum and respect around the sport? Now it’s literally “lol u support Lewis/Max u smell rofl” level of discourse.
Most people have their preferred Driver/Team/Nationality but F1 seemed the most neutral in the sense it had the most audience enjoying the entire grid racing rather than watching for one driver. But no longer, seems everyone watches F1 to support X or Y now.

I'm sure people have seen it but there's a documentary called "Grand Prix Driver" on amazon prime which follows McLaren in the build up to the 2017 season, lots of behind the scenes into the car build and the various issues they faced

Just got round to watching the GP. Fantastic racing from both max and leclerc. These rule changes have really improved overaking and the ability to come back when you have been overtaken.

Another very exciting race though. Shame about some of the retirements, especially Alonso who was on fire.
This Max/Charles battle is going to be very exciting this season. But as much as it’s about the drivers, it’s also in large parts down to all the engineers back in the factory rolling out updates quickly and effectively to keep up as the season goes on - which is much more of a factor than it’s been in the last few years given the regulation changes.

Carlos Sainz needs to win a GP either in Australia or imola otherwise he really is going to be the support cast for leclerc. Another weekend and he is nowhere near the battle between max and leclerc.
I think it was the right approach. Just the pattern of safety cars and VSC favoured the RBs late on with tyre wear.
The Honda / RB Powertrains engine does seem to have an advantage in top-end speed beyond setup at this point - you are right though that Ferrari seemed to lean into that this weekend (RB were ~5 km/hr faster on straights in Bahrain and 10 km/hr faster in Jeddah). I'm guessing that Ferrari could have potentially matched Red Bull's straight line speed by adjusting their setup but they'd have risked making the car undriveable due to porpoising, and given how dangerous and high speed this track is they leaned into getting the biggest advantage they could in the corners.
For me it's the right move all in all (and it very nearly paid off) - going forward I'd expect Ferrari to have more upside in terms of performance improvements once they make further tweaks to the aero package than Red Bull. Think there are rumours they've not fully unleashed their engine thus far.

Was a good battle throughout! Max on the radio though, comes across as the ultimate whingebag. Questions everything when he should really just concentrate on his racing.
