Gary Neville

It's not about being swayed or making a decision based on what a junior member of staff says, it's about a manager learning about his potential new club and getting a players perspective on it, a player that can compare it to the club he's currently working for as well. It's also not like ETH is in jail and has to choose whether he wants to call Donny or Mourinho with his one phone call.

The biggest flaw in this whole argument is that it seems pretty clear its already a done deal.

So he thinks insiders will warn Ten Hag off from taking the job, but, somehow, no one will warn off Poch?

I mean, is he totally thick, or what?
Because Poch isn't coming. Ten Hag is.

But Ten Hag will be hearing negative stories about the dressing room because that's the truth of the situation. Nothing Neville says one way or the other is going to change that. It's like people are upset with him for saying it out loud even though we all know it.

So I didn't use the past tense, my bad. The point still stands though.

It doesn't stand. ETH isn't going to let the opinion of one, young, unhappy footballer inform his decision making. Especially when it's such a massive opportunity for him.

Which is why it looks very much like he's on his way here.

It's protests against the owners not the team. Just like the large scale protests in 2010 when we were in a champions league semi and winning the league...

Or last year when we were 2nd and had a Europa final weeks later.

Don't talk out your arse.

I actually agree with the fella quoted saying everything with Utd is over amplified for what its worth.

Last year's protest was on the back of the failed super league and if that game was a title decider there would have been feck all of a protest.

2010, I think a plane was flown over OT with Glazers out banner, not sure if there was much more than that.

Maybe the proposed protest v Norwich was proposed before the Everton game and if it was fair enough. I hadn't heard anything about it till after the Everton result though, did you?

Which, I suggest, is the exact reason Klopp took on Liverpool instead of United.

That's actually an interesting perspective, it's also a reason why I rate Klopp higher than Pep due to the lesser resources Liverpool have had.

FSG aren't exactly the most prominent football owners. Klopp's management is papering over some cracks within their ownership which will likely be exposed when he eventually departs.

Everything he says about us is true. Can't dispute a single word.
But that's the annoying thing with Nev (and the rest of the pundit circle) He really doesn't tell us anything we don't know or already suspected. Of course he has all the faux shock and outrage the same as Goldbridge does but has an entirely different platform to peddle it on. A good ten minutes to get to the conclusion that water is wet. He's the master of stating the glaringly obvious.

Where Nev let's himself down is the spiked comments about ETH, 'would he join after the Everton result, i'm not so sure' claptrap. Come on, pretty much all of us could see that this was another shit performance, shit result waiting to happen before a single ball was kicked. If we can see it, surely RR would see it as would ETH from overseas.

If Nev want's to get some credibility, have the courage of his convictions, out the mole in the dressing room. Out his employers at Sky for having gobshites like Goldbridge (Not his name, not a United Fan, Front for a media Company) as the considered voice of our fans.

Publicly suggesting our best hope of a managerial candidate avoid us, what an absolute pillock. Why would he go that far? Honestly think he doesn't want us to succeed.
Lifelong United fan that also made over 600 appearances for the club doesn't want to see us succeed. Ok then.

Do a bit of research before peddling nonsense mate.

I did actually and there was no protest planned for the Norwich game before we lost to Everton. There was no thread about it in here until Saturday evening and no mention of it anywhere else, strange that, probably just a coincidence.

I presume you have evidence that the protest was planned before the Everton game? We wouldn't anyone accusing you of talking out of your arse now would we.

I was talking about your 2010 comment.

Surely it's a better situation for Donny if ETH takes the job. Why would he be warning him off?

Of course it’s drivel, why on Earth would you take the opinion of a disgruntled player who is failing elsewhere at the lower end of the table?
What insight does that give him? What insight could DvB, Manchester United sub have into the inner workings at the upper levels of the club? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Ragnick, absolutely, as Ragnick is now well aware from a manager’s perspective as to how the club is run, if they keep their promises etc etc, and he has an idea as to how the club will be run in future. However, considering Ragnick was given the trust to come onboard and will remain employed by the club, it’d be very very odd for him to warn ETH off.
A player who, let it not be forgotten, was got rid of by ETH’s club, with absolutely no indication that they did so against the manager’s will.

Its a bit like Ole being made Chelsea manager and the press speculating that the first things he’ll do is make Lukaku captain and sign Fellaini.

Surely it's a better situation for Donny if ETH takes the job. Why would he be warning him off?

Agree I don't think he would.

It's all done anyway. The new manager will have been sorted.

It's just Gary being overly negative as usual and fans who also tend to be overly negative jumping on board.

If Gary was offered a director of football type role at United on a million a year does anybody think he'd turn it down? No chance.

ETH in the process of making the biggest decision of his career - "You know this is a big opportunity for me so I'm not going to talk to someone who might have something negative to say about it".

Color me doubtful.

Bloody hell, if ETH listens to Neville or VdB and because of this decides against United then he wouldn’t really be the ideal candidate anyway.
He is not making his decision based on the opinion of a pundit or a player who can’t get a game for Everton.

He has a point. Why would ETH want a job at United if his demands are not met. There is substantial precedent that we're a club where players and managers go to get their career completely obliterated.

Someone at the club must be leaking information to Neville. Not that it comes as a surprise! After the 1-1 draw against Leicester he spoke about how the build up of negative energy among the supporters could lead to an announcement about the next manager during the week. That opened up the flurry of unconfirmed reports about the club deciding on Ten Hag. The club hasn't made an official statement but if you're to believe the rumors talks have hit a 'snag' over Hag's apparent demands. Add the timing of the reported interest from Leipzig in credible outlets like the Express and the Times in the midst of Nevilles current speculations you'd have to think he may know something we don't.

Klopp decided United was not for him when Woodward pitched the club as an adult Disneyland

How this in itself is not a fireable offense was baffling. What kind of feckin pitch was that. Would any of you here accept an important position in a company that called themselves adult disneyland. What a fecking joke.

Which is clearly such a bollocks myth, Klopp has still never broken contract ever, and has stated many times he never will. When his Dortmund contract ran out, United had hired LvG just a year earlier so the job wasn’t available.
He “chose” Liverpool because the timing was fortunately perfect for them, when they sacked Rodgers and Klopp had been jobless for almost half a year.
Klopp aint dumb though, revealing United wanted him as first choice before LVG when he was under contract, and selling it as the Disneyland thing putting him off has been incredibly popular with Liverpool fans, he knows exactly what he’s doing.

The Wolf of Wall Street himself described his company as an adult Disneyland, and feck yeah I’d have taken a job from him or at Manchester United. LVG likely got the same pitch and took the job, and was ridiculously excited about it even whilst still Holland manager.
The “stupidity” of that comment has been vastly overplayed, he’s selling a fecking managerial position at a club that calls it’s stadium “The Theatre of Dreams” for heaven’s sake.

Raphael Honigstein described the meeting in what has become the definitive biography on Klopp. Bring the noise from 2017. The author was given access to Klopps closest colleagues, friends and family members. Klopp has never denied or confirmed the claims. For from myth in my opinion but if you don't care about it there's no need to get worked up, or appear as such

It’s a myth as to why he didn’t take the job.

He didn’t take it because he was under contract, so we went with LvG. When he became available after Dortmund, there was no vacancy.

That's more of an indictment than anything

It's been years and people still misquote this one. He allegedly described Old Trafford as a Disneyland for adult, in the context of suggesting that the entertainment factor was extremely important.

A place Bobby Charlton himself described as…

This is Manchester United football club, this is the theatre of dreams.

It was fine Bobby saying something as cheesy as that about Old Trafford, so much so that our own fans have completely embraced the name, but Woodward describing it similarly cheesily is apparently “sack worthy” and something to be completely outraged about it.
As I say, that Summer he also spoke to LVG who was managing Holland and has managed Barca and Bayern, and likely gave him a similar pitch. LVG was like a kid on Christmas Eve when he waiting to take over.

People like to fake outrage due to the myth that that comment put Klopp off, when in reality Klopp was under contract with Dortmund and had no intention of breaking it, even if Liverpool came in for him then, or as alleged Real Madrid for that matter.
That an unemployed Klopp was wooed by Liverpool I have no doubt about, but it was mid season and it was the only vacancy at a big club. It’s much easier to fall in love with something when you’re open to it.

The part that bothers me the most is that he joined Liverpool who are one of the corniest and most commercial oriented club in the world.

Why couldn't he have wanted to move in 2014 rather than 2015, damn it

Aye, the entire premise falls apart as soon as you give it a second’s thought.
Liverpool has always been corny as feck, from the boot room nonsense to the “This is Anfield” sign, to the White Suited Spice Boys or the Suarez t-shirts. And likely what appealed to Klopp’s romantic side most when he was unemployed and considering getting back into it, was the cheesy as feck “You’ll never walk alone” Dortmund connection.

But yeah “Disneyland” really did it.
