Westminster Politics

they won the election because they kept the likes of Rees Mogg and the assorted other fruitcakes away from the press. even boris was locked away in a fridge to avoid awkward questions. and yet here they all are, let loose on social media and in front of the cameras, its beautiful to watch. imagine being a spad in no 10 right now....

we've all met people like boris (entitled posh twits). theres no way hes going away without making an unholy mess and having the mother of all tantrums. he doesnt give a toss about the tory party or the country as we already know and those who chose to hold their noses and keep his show on the road are the ones who'll be closest and thus in the firing line. we could be in for an awesome few months. between today, the by elections in a few weeks and then the standards committee, boris balls are in the vice and they are going to be squeezed. deserves all the shit coming his way, the evil feck and those who he shits on in turn deserve it just as much. but tories are like rats, and they will abandon him one by one.

If he won by 1 vote I genuinely think he'd try and limp on.

He's shameless.
Of course he would. He’s going on his own terms or he’s culled. He’s never going to resign because people tell him he should. The man has zero honour.

98 public declarations of support. Not a lot and some of them will be lying.

The worst thing for the next general election, and the removal of the Tories, would be for Boris to lose this vote this evening.

Do they never get tired of parroting the same boring message? fecking robots.

What do the people on here think the best result would be in terms of the next general election? I feel like a narrow win would be the worst thing for the Tories/ best for Labour. But I’m saying this from a point of real uncertainty about who could replace him. All the obvious guesses (Hunt, Truss, Gove, Sunak) seem unlikely to me but it would have to be one of them.

How many need to vote to get rid of him? Also i assume it's all MP's who vote in the VONC or is it just Tories?

He's safe, shy tory effect for sure but plenty of vocal support already
what it means long term who knows because too many uncertainties regarding starmer's durham investigation etc. He is unpopular generally with voters but crucially and clearly not amongst parliamentary MPs and support due to previous electoral success which will endure regardless of what he gets up to/has done. Clearly dips in polling isn't as dramatic enough for them to think they can't overcome it. Tories have remarkable messaging discipline and spin in addition to us being a centre-right wing country.

I absolutely despise Nadine Dorries.

Shame, a nice news bombshell just before the vote would've been great.

I think a lot of people will care actually. It's another example of Boris lying and exaggerating when countless number of people are losing loved ones to covid. It's been pretty clear to me that it was exaggerated given if he was in critical condition with covid he would have taken covid significantly more seriously from then on afterwards. Which has clearly not been the case. Not that it overly matters to the supporters of Boris mind you, whoever those freaks are.

It'll just get blamed on overworried lackeys or some nonsense, won't stick to him.

If it really is an anonymous vote then I think he'll lose. Even some of those publicly backing him might stick the knife in.

If the reports of him being overbearing are true then it's the perfect opportunity for some to quietly get some revenge.

you could end up with a situation where some vote against him, thinking its not going to make much difference, and yet enough think that way to push it very close. reverse PR in action. the irony. hilarity will ensue once they realise what theyve done.

I suspect it'll be better if he goes, the replacement will just as shameless and incompetent as him but nowhere near as good at bullshitting and getting away with it.

If it was a comedy sketch (which UK politics is now) a few will think, ill vote against him to push that number up, but they will never know its me
But then everybody does it and then its unanimous, and its not in doubt who voted against him.
and they are all left with egg on their face where they could have initially pretended they voted for him.

You may well be right. It’s very difficult right now to assess how much weight the Boris name still carries. He’s clearly shown the past ability to attract voters the party wouldn’t normally reach, a bit like Blair did.
If someone like Liz Truss got the job, especially without actually being elected at a GE then things could definitely get worse for them.

Probably best if he stays, but given the Tory members are likely to pick someone like Liz Truss as his replacement, its kind of a win/win either way.

Truss taking over would be hilarious in a car crash sort of way. Thick as fecking pigshit.
