That's an interesting point, why do you think that business is conducted similarly? And do you think that it's widely different to what other clubs do?
For the start of pre season which is less than 2 weeks away. That is my barometer and I’ll pass judgement then.

We can't force Barca to sell at the highest price we are willing to pay. It would be hugely disappointing, but that's the nature of business. I still think we are trying to call Barca's bluff and that there's a high chance they'll cave.
What would be your judgement if we don't have all our signings by July 1st?
De Jong was taking part in the international tournament and then went straight off on holiday. That's kind of what you'd expect at this time of year, with everything starting earlier and earlier. Nothing's going to happen until he gets back, surely? It's not really surprising.

that advice has feck all to do with being a football fan on a forum the purpose of which is to discuss such things. Being disillusioned with performances, players, cost of tickets and shirts, managers, coaches, tactics, trophies, being relegated, cup runs, lack of cup runs, youth system...is as much a part of being a fan as celebrating all those things... that doesn’t mean that everyone who has an issue with those things does not follow your mothers advice...it’s not a cross that people bear in their everyday lives. They come here to vent - and legitimately so considering the last 10 years of ineptitude. But you get these holier than thou fans saying people are just whining???

This is not the first summer this has happened and the club have briefed on plenty of occasions about having to get players in for the start of preseason.
If we get the majority done and sign a couple of players after then I’d say that a good job done.
Ten Hag is a new manager attempting to implement and entirely new system, we have lost quite a few players already on free transfers. Not getting in what he needs for pre season is compromising him.
This has been reiterated by previous managers, LVG, Jose etc
On topic. Barcelona deal is about selling their broadcasting rights to Bank of America in exchange of 600m. There are two things about it, it presumably means that Bank of America will be the ones collecting Barcelona's broadcasting revenue or a part of it and it also has no consequence on their need to abide to the LFP financial fair play rules, it just fixes their cash issues. If I'm not mistaken they still need to reduce their wage bill.
There are also things going on around him regarding his present club that he has no control over.
a player they don't need, who hasn't been the undoubted success they hoped for, in an area they are adequately covered in and will get a profit. I tend to think all they are doing is seeking to ensure they squeeze as much as they can out of us. They know the connection with ETH, they know this will be 1st major signing. Utd of course don't want to overpay, but if ETH doesn't get his man it's not the best of starts in this new job.Will get resolved in the end I'd say, with a bit of flexibility from both teams in re to price.

Renewing Bruno’s contract despite not having a manager and him being in terrible form. Very little urgency in the transfer market but lots of briefings about not being held to ransom and bragging about the new structure fixing everything (had this with AWB and the 804 right backs and when Murtough and Fletcher were appointed).
The early signs are as expected not much has or will change. Time will tell but find it baffling anyone gets taken in by all the false promises and the constant kicking the can down the road anymore.
I get why, he’s not lived up to the hype and is ludicrously overpaid. He’s the sort of player I really hoped we’d be steering clear of after Woodward left.

La liga's salary cap is based on revenue from the past season so I guess that will help them next season but not this one. I'm guessing they do need the FDJ money but the most important part is getting rid of that 350k a week salary.
I think it depends on whether he’s motivated to be here. If he’s another Di Maria, being forced out of the best club he can be at and forced to take a step down in his estimation, then it’d be just like the old days. If he’s motivated to play under Ten Haag and his former manager thinks he’s worth paying however much for, then it’s a no brainer. Clearly Ten Haag is a better judge than anyone else on this one.
Dont worry. We have undertaken a full cultural reset, we have key staff in place, will do thorough analysis and scouting before signing. Plans being drawn up as we speak to expand and modernise OT. Sound familiar? Dont know everyone falls for the Glazer PR. ETH suspect will be overwhelmed by the scale of the challenge. OT will still have a leaking roof in 2025.
The way I see it, it's not a shamble unless we are signing our key signings in mid August for no apparent reason. I also don't think that a new system being implemented will be affected dramatically because the manager doesn't have 3 or 4 players out of +20, now we can agree that ideally you have all your signings early and for as little money as possible but it's not something that you control unilaterally. But to be clear ideally I see your point, I just don't think that less than ideal means shambles.
Regarding previous managers I don't see how José can reiterate anything when he got the vast majority of his signings early and it wasn't better at Chelsea. And LVG couldn't either since he targetted international players that were on holidays after the World cup when we started preseason in 2014 and he also by his own admission tried to first sign the most ridiculous players possible(Robben-Muller), he still had Shaw and Herrera. Our previous managers do like to make excuses for themselves.

There's that spectrum of fans, yes. They can be as annoying as 100% blind faith and support for the club and our players, IMHO.

You don't know how much urgency in the transfer market we have or how it compares to others. And while I don't understand the Bruno extension, I wouldn't say that it's typical from us, it was very strange.
In that case, football should collectively agree to close the transfer window on the eve of pre-season. What is the point beyond that?

If the player arrives in late august but not when he isn't around for the first day of preseason. Players including big names routinely sign late in July and into August, there is nothing shambolic about it and managers deal with it without problem.

In this situation is not productive given the circumstances. But anyway the club clearly agrees which is why they briefed yet again they wanted to get things done ready for the start pre season

I agree but it's often too late when we seemingly have less leverage. This Bruno extension is weird even by our own standards, he had a contract until 2025 and he hasn't been in form for a while.
Concern is in fact warranted. Not panic, but concern. We’re unable to close out agreements for transfers in, and our, while clubs who are already miles ahead of us have closed out important transfers.

It makes perfect sense to want key starting players before preseason.
If we're planning on playing a system were Frenkie drops to CB to progress the ball from defence to attack quicker, which midfielder do we have that can replicate that role in pre-season meaning the other midfielders can work on their positioning etc.

Mid August is 2/3 games into the new season. We have known since December that we will lose (or be without) a huge number of the first team squad Notwithstanding the fact that our bloated squad already had gaping holes right down it’s spine. This has been the case for a number of seasons.
As a fan I can accept a lack of success...I can’t accept watching tumescent football played by players who don’t want to be at the club or have inflated senses of their worth to the club due to the ridiculous contracts they have been given.
what is a shambles is that even after 10 seasons of this rubbish...some fans take exception to others for pointing out the obvious facts about the poor running, approach to transfers, approach to contracts etc. Etc. If fans were making it up I could see your point and respect the timeframes youre seemingly willing to give but let’s be honest....when you have had a January window and 6 months of “monitoring” to fix glaringly obvious issues...while your already better functioning rivals tie up their main deals before the window even opens...a critical eye is necessary. To not question that is just plain silly.
