Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea

If he has a good season and a club like Atletico Madrid or PSG want pay £40m for him, that would probably be the best case scenario. Inter clearly can't afford him.

Don't think PSG will be touching him, Atletico is a possibility. I remember in one of the interview Lukaku said he wants to play in many leagues, so La Liga is logical step.

June 2023 in an interview after Inter send him packing:

"Chelsea is my childhood club I have always dreamed to join them and that's why I wanted to experience it a 5th time."

Al Thani is allegedly still upset about the Icardi deal, so someone like Lukaku would be surprising.

Basically another pogba, yoyoing between two clubs, leaking stories of wanting to play for another side whilst at his current club, fragile ego that needs to constantly feel special by his club, struggling to perform consistently for a top side in the premier league, more suited to serie A and international football pace, lacks workrate, expensive premier league flop.

Except pogba has more talent and skill and is less of a disruptive influence than this egoistic slab of meat.

Its quite nice to see another team make such a truly horrible signing. I knew it wouldn't go well, but bloody hell, I genuinely think we saw him play better for us, and he was shite.

Icardi, once he was caf's wet dream

Lukaku is better though, at almost everything.

One reporter on SSN blaming United and Chelsea for not getting the best out of him

Genuinely not jealous at all as I’m desperate for Haaland to finally come here and this essentially rules out Chelsea for next season.

Also Lukaku is a bit of an enigma, scores you goals but ultimately is never really fulfilling, bit like a McDonalds, fills you up at first but you feel like shite after a few hours,

Overall he’ll be in contention next season for Golden Boot and is exactly what Chelsea needs right now so they will be an absolute force, them and City surely favourites now.
This sums it up well.

Worst transfer in PL history

The Kaku defense starts at 1:48

Sky sports pundits are genius, Lukaku was signed from Everton to ManUtd for 75 million pounds. Somehow they converted that to Euros using old exchange rate and converted the Euros into pounds using today's exchange rate when the transaction happened between 2 English clubs.

From 75 million, it became 90 million.

Chelsea should listen to the guy who is defending Lukaku.

One of the worst transfers of all times is actually too soft, I can't remember any player costing that much, failing to deliver in the first season(not even being first choice) and getting sold very next year. Has that ever happened?

They bought for a 100 milly and are loaning him back to the same team for 7 mill. Inter have to be pissing themselves laughing literally.

Not really, Inter aren’t exactly going to get the rest of that £100m they were going to get over the next few seasons

Why wouldn’t they ? Did Chelsea manage to write in a “We don’t pay if he’s shite” clause ?

Why wouldn't they?

They will get every single penny even if Lukaku retires today.

Not "one of" but clearly "THE worst" PL transfer ever

Nah, too early to say that. It's a disaster of a singing but not the worst.

I won't name who I think is the worst pl transfer ever because I think it's pogbvious.

If he stays at Chelsea picking up massive wages for the duration of his long contract, disrupting the squad for those years, underperforming, getting injured all the time winning only 1 2nd rate trophy and then leaving on a free transfer, I'd agree he is joint worst PL transfer ever.

Is that true? Feel like that doesn’t sound right.

Because why on earth would you agree to loan him back to a club you bought him from without first agreeing that you’re not paying them the remaining balance for the player?

It would be beyond stupid to continue paying Inter instalments when the player is at Inter anyway. It would make more sense for Chelsea to just keep him or loan him elsewhere otherwise

That's not how transfers work.

Nah, it's still Lukaku. He did most of those things in his 1st season without even performing as a 40m player.

Pogba mostly performed well in his first 3 seasons and got into the PFA Team of the year in 18/19.

Not even close, Lukaku is at the top with no one near him.

Pogba had shit ending to his ManUtd career but he was like Messi compared to Chelsea's Lukaku.

Nah. I'd take Lukakus 1 year at Chelsea over Pogbas 6 at Man United, no hesitation whatsoever.

Lukaku isn't even Chelsea's worst signing. He's our most expensive flop for sure but Kepa had much more of a negative impact on the team and also cost a boatload. Sheva and Torres also stuck around for ages dragging the team down.

 One of the most laughable posts I have ever read on here.

If you keep telling that to yourself, you might convince yourself that Lukaku is the best transfer of all times.

I literally called him "a disaster of a signing" in the post you quoted.

If we cut our losses after 1 season, get rid and get some money back then he's already above Kepa.

Strange to suggest Pogba was worse when he cost much less and delivered us a few trophies. Obviously didn’t fulfil potential but he performed much better than Lukaku has.

And this is why he’s the worst PL transfer of all time…

He only cost 10% less and underperformed for 6 years, after which he left for free. His presence at Man United for those 6 years was disruptive and hugely divisive without being productive.

As I've said, Lukaku was a disaster of a signing but it could be a worse, he could stick around for another 5 years, continue to underperform and then leave for nowt.

It would clearly be the worst. No one comes close tbh

You are in denial man. Pogba's tenure ended terribly for sure but Lukaku never took off, a lot of money for 1 season in which he actually never wanted to be at Chelsea ?

I don't understand what you mean. They are two separate transactions. It's not Inter's fault Chelsea couldn't work it out with Lukaku (or maybe it is, but that's a conspiracy rabbit hole I'm happy to go down). Chelsea are legally and contractually obligated to pay Inter the full transfer fee. The fact that he's going back to Inter on loan is a huge embarrassment for Chelsea (and Lukaku) but it's also totally irrelevant.

Which season did he perform at the level expected of a world record signing?

He did get 16 goals in 47 games in the 2018/19 season. As I recall, he was pretty good that year. He was also in the PFA Team of the Year.
